  1. Turns out it was the kingpin had bent/mangled itself. Repair kit and wheel bearing for the other side: £180. Ouch.
  2. Cheers for the help. one for the garage i think, i've got no time to square it now.
  3. Right, doesnt move left to right but i havent got it off the ground yet. I looked at it from the back, and i can see the whole hub moving around on the chrome ball. I'm assuming this isnt a good thing?!
  4. It was definitely moving from top to bottom, didnt check left to right. I'll have a look in a minute. Thanks
  5. Hi guys, Need some advice. I had a blowout on the M27 at 70. This caused alot of heavy vibration etc on the offside front wheel. I've replaced the tyre and i noticed that i was getting a similar vibration/wobble through the steering wheel. I pulled over, checked my wheel nuts, all fine, had a look round the back of that hub and noticed a lot of grease, looks like the one shot stuff you put in the wheel bearings. I rocked the wheel at the top and there is a lot of play, feels like a really badly work/knackered wheel bearing. Is this the most likely thing to have happened? are there any other possibilities? I need the motor for work so could do with getting it sorted ASAP! Are there any good garages around blandford forum that you would recommend for this repair? Thanks guys. Dave
  6. so youve got something more like this?
  7. Thought that might be the case! lets start thinking this through again! thanks
  8. Morning Just a quick sanity check before I start, will this work?! Basically, two lights per relay, relays triggered from a carling on-on-off switch. Am I right in thinking the carling has two completely seperate circuits, i.e. circuit one is on, two is off, two is on, one is off? Many thanks!
  9. To be honest its nothing serious, all the light filters are discoloured so thats half an a4 sheet already! a few worn bushes and play/leaks in the pas box and a few other minors. nothing that will take long to get sorted!
  10. After about 3 years stood on a farm doing nothing, having been sold and then re-acquired by me my 1987 200tdi 90 has been brought back to life to save me from the perils of having to go everywhere on public transport. One new brake pipe and a new wheel bearing saw it sail through its MOT today, granted with a list of advisaries spanning two full sheets but a pass none the less! Having been driving a 5 series for the last three years i'd forgotten the fun that can be had in these! Very happy landy owner!
  11. I think I must have bought the single seal kit then. it had two when I took it apart and the seal didn't look particularly like either of the existing ones. ill try the other seal aswell. thanks for your help.
  12. hi, I've just done the wheel bearing on a disco disc break rear axle, the bearings are fine, but i've only got one seal and should have two. any idea what part numbers I need? one goes on the stub axle behind the bearings and one goes in the hub before the washer and nuts. thanks!
  13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-3-5-V8-EX-MOD-SNATCH-UNFINISHED-PROJECT-ALMOST-DONE-NO-SWAP-/330704147340?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4cff80d38c#ht_1704wt_1396 Many hot sweaty hours spent in one of these, usually waiting for recovery!
  14. I got one with my MOD90 ID card, I think its their way of giving us military discount. Don't know if they still do though...
  15. Ok i'll check all the hoses and the supply to the turbo also. I'll be getting to look at it this saturday so i'll let you know what i find.
  16. Well this would have been an option had my 300tdi turbo not been thrown out when the house was sold! I've got a 200tdi turbo now so it'll have to do even if its a bit more of a pain.
  17. Ok thanks guys. Have you got any info on the correct part numbers for the oil feeds/returns? I've found ERR3495 and ERR3494 as being the defender 200tdi feed and return? I havent had a chacne to check if the turbo/manifold i've got has them on. Also found this site: http://www.serie2a.dk/English%20series2a/200tdi%20discovery%20in%20a%20Defender.htm which seems to be pretty much what I'm trying to do, but i shouldn't have to modify the manifold I don't think? I'll also need the downpipe from a standard defender 200tdi changed to mate to the existing exhaust, and various pipes for connection to the airbox/intercooler, is there anything else I've forgotten?
  18. Hi, Is there any info anywhere on changing a disco 200tdi turbo/manifold to a defender turbo/manifold? Cant seem to find anything after a bit of googling. Would be grateful for any info.
  19. Ok thanks, I'll bear that in mind when i get a chance to look at it. I've sourced a turbo so i'll check that one and compare them, hopefully one of them will work!
  20. Ok, so thats reassuring. I believe you can test it by using a footpump? has anyone done this? Does it sound like it is overfueling that is causing this problem?
  21. Thanks western, I thought it would be that. Was hoping you'd find one that wasnt 150 quid though! Many thanks.
  22. Hi, I need a part number and supplier for the turbo actuator on a 200tdi disco engine. Any ideas? Thanks
  23. Hi I've got a 90 with a disco 200tdi engine in it. Its always smoked a little but now its failing on emmisions, to be fair it looks like a small forest fire is occuring when you hit the revs. Now, its black smoke which is a good sign, and only when you really rev it which indicates over fuelling. I havent looked to see if the pump has been messed with to increase the fuelling, but its a good bet it has as it always had a good bit of grunt more than i would have expected. Before i look at the pump i checked the turbo, and the actuator doesn't seem to be doing very much. I took the arm off and it didnt move when i increased the revs. Should i see it move when revving the engine at a standstill or will it only move when the vehicle is actually moving and working? i understand you can test it with a footpump, any more info you can share on this? Does this sound like it could be the cause? I'm tempted to replace the actuator before i do anything else but the only one i found was nearly 150 quid. any ideas where i can get one cheaper? Thanks for your help.
  24. Hi all, Im looking at a Cut 40 plasma cutter on the Bay of E, was wondering if anyone knew if they were any good? its reasonably priced at a bit over 100 and says it will cut up to 8mm. I want it for general fab on land rovers, up to about 3mm steel so should be ok? Thanks Dave
