  1. its very easy, that very easy to make a pigs ear of it if you arty with a good eye and a steady hand have ago id pay someone myself, but I cant wrap xmas presents
  2. no i dont know anything about him or her but i do have a grudge with people who create things which have no style or taste, its plain ugly with multiple examples of bad engineering practise and bad finish, he cant even get the ride height even front to back. look at the other two examples of project which are well planned and executed, people who take pride in their vehicle. i was putting it up as a cautionary tale to warn the op, who expressed his dream to build a showy pick up , of how bad such things look if your not careful with planning and have sufficient funds to see it through. Dont get me wrong if someone wants to run an old nail till it drops that fine with me,or as is more common with discos modify it to make it more usefull off road, but most of these have a rugged style about them which sets them apart from the ordinary and they look impressive purposeful cars, but this is extraordinary for all the wrong reasons, what must they have been thinking, il take a perfectly good disco and tun it into something which provokes children to laugh at me and concerned residents to chain up their garden furniture and then have the cheek to try and sell it to someone else.
  3. edit not one like this then i would put it in the top ten of the worse cars ive ever seen, but it might be a good place to start available on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY...%3A1|240%3A1318
  4. having built specials, i can assure you that the cost of a well presented end item will run into many thousands with out your labour. Fine if its your hobby, youve got the required skills and youve got money to burn. and then it will only be worth a fraction of what youve spent otherwise buy something decent and do modest improvements
  5. you can get an adapter to fit just about anything following your posts, can help thinking that getting a d2 will work out cheaper than upgrading a d1
  6. it doesnt seem a popular thing to do, im thinking of going down the same line with my td5, but struggling to find any suppliers or advice twisted are advertising suspension upgrades for road use -- coming soon, but judging by the rest of their suff it wont be cheap, you dont say which disco youve got, but id think twice about blowing a grand on a mid 90s one when the best youl get is a bad handling car rather than a very bad handling one, landrover answer was the active sus system, which work very well when it works the best thing to do would be to get some wider wheels of a td5 or range rover, update the bushes to get the slackout of it and get some new standard shocks on it but drop the spring height by about an inch with shorter springs, this will get it as good as it was when it came out of the factory, but you wont be racing evo's any time soon
  7. one of the many scams around is to buy a cat d, claim to have repaired it and then have it stolen and claim the full value of the insurance. or indeed nick another one and plate it up thats the problem with call cnt they employ people with no understanding of the implications of what they are saying
  8. i dont know who you have been talking to, but you don't need an inspection on a cat d, cars have been cat d for things as minor as having the sound system stolen. or being keyed its cat C that requires a VIC inspection I know this coz i have one,( CAT D) its not recorded on the log book, as a cat C is and you wouldn't know ,unless you did a HPI check or the vendor told you. the insurance dont load it to any extent, if at all, if you wanted to have it checked your self its 36 quid, get the vendor to have it done if its a big issue for you
  9. that's really cool ive been planning a similar arrangements ive been considering getting one of them pull down vdu Telly units they have for kitchens for roof mounting and then putting all the hardwere in the boot. the downside is the dvd players in the boot as well, so its either get out and change it, find some where to mount it, (does any know if you can get a cd player which also plays dvds to replace the head unit) or ore likely just put a usb slot in the dash and put everything on a memory stick, im planning on using mobile broad band to get internet connection on the move and also a wifi amp so i can take advantage of the greater speed of free wifi access any one else played with this idea
  10. is that 22 MPG whilst towing or general bobing about ? >, mine does about 30, 150-160 miles to 30 quids worth, a bit less if I only use it on 1 or 2 miles journeys, good bit more on a run
  11. yep, it shouldnt change over to gas till is reached running temp, so what ever he has used as a stat is set wrong
  12. cant really see that LR are responsible for a 6 yo vehicle with unknown history, anything could have happened to the fuel lines since they were fitted the fuel pump was due to expire any time now, if you'd stopped driving it (running it) when the fault occurred it may be still working, are you sure its gone and the garage haven't just decided to charge you for one, How could you not know it was diesel hope youve not been on the road, there are prob some very annoyed bikers who want a word with you are you blaming LR for the mirror as well
  13. the knackered back box is probably at the bottom of most of your probs but im not convinced that the ht lead just falling off has been solved as they wont have got tighter through use and a poor connection here wont help your running any, if they fit there a bugger to get out, worth a recheck i think dont see how you can feel any grinding through the clutch pedal as there is no direct connection to the clutch, sure its not just vibration, if you not happy take it back to them
  14. tell her to put the bloody seat back where it was or youl start leaving the toilet seat up
  15. http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/d2_diesel_eng.htm theres a bolt on one as well for the same money
