  1. unfortunately that manual doesn't have any wiring diagrams or pin outs for the alarm controllers. Thanks Dave
  2. Hi Does anybody have a pin out for the Lucas 17 vt alarm unit or the alarm/central locking wiring diagram for the early Discovery 300tdi. Last night mine went crazy by randomly flashing the lights making the central locking go all funny, so what i'm going to do is replace it with an after market alarm. If someone does have it can you send it to me in a message as we don't want anybody knowing it. Thanks Dave
  3. Hi i just pulled my gearbox (lt77) out of my disco due to a small error when putting the 4.6 in and me forgetting to put the bush in the end of the crank, so when I put my foot on the clutch it made a bad sound. Now with the gearbox out I noticed I had play in the input shaft and I would just like to know if that is normal or is it time for a rebuild. Thanks Dave Here's a YouTube link
  4. Hi all Long shot but does anybody have a MS2 base map for a 4.6 gems engine? I don't really want to spend and evening putting one together if someone have something to start off with. Thanks Dave
  5. Hi I've having trouble finding a power steering pipe for me 300. Basically I had a 3.5 v8 (v-belt) in the disco and to pipe from the pump to the steering box doesn't reach the pump on the 4.6 (serp belt) Is there a pipe that would work that is off the shelf or will it be easier for me to make one up my self. Thanks Dave
  6. Thanks guys I had a little skim through and saw most of my questions had been answered in the post. I'll give it a proper read when a get a spare half hour. Cheers Dave
  7. Hi So I have a 95 Disco 1 which is currently running (used to run) 3.5 V-belt V8 with megasquirt I have now got myself a 4.6 gems v8 from a RR which I am going to be swapping over. The few questions I have about doing the swap is:- 1. The 4.6 has the thermostat in the bottom rad hose where the 3.5 has it in the top. Am I right in thinking I could do away with the remote stat in the bottom hose, run the normal disco hose and fit the stat in the top hose take off by using the old 3.5 thermostat housing?? 2.The 4.6 has two hose (which have been cut) coming from the oil filter housing/pump which I think are for an oil cooler, the 3.5 has never had an oil cooler but the rad has four connections on it. Would I be right in thinking a can buy a set of new pipes and connect them to the rads oil cooler? 3. As the power steering pump is mounted differently it doesn't look like the power steering hoses will fit on the serp pump. Do I need to change the hose to a later serp type hose or can the v-belt type hoses still work? That all I can think to ask at the moment. Thanks Dave
  8. Hi all. I'm making a new fuel system for my V8 Discovery using braided hoses and -An fittings but I'm having trouble finding out what fittings are used for the inlet and outlet on the normal petrol fuel filter. If someone has the answer it will be great and also saves me buying a few different fittings to get the right ones. Thanks Dave
  9. Hello to all. I'm looking into buying a wideband lamba kit to tune the MS better than a stock sensor could. In past I have used AEM's uego kit as well as the kits available from innovative. So which kits do others use and how well do they work with MS Thanks Dave
  10. Hi You problem sounds almost the same as what I had. It turned out to be the Lamba sensor was overheating which then sent the ecu a signal telling it that it was running rich, the ecu responded by leaning out the fuel mixture to the point that the injectors were only just opening. Resulting in a the engine stopping and not restarting until the Lamba sensor had cooled. I swapped the sensor and it hasn't played up at all now (touch wood) Dave
  11. Yer was going to do that but i'll have to fake an overheat lol
  12. Hi to all. Right here is what happens, when i'm doing some off roading and the engine gets a little bit warm (but not over heating) the engine starts to misfire and then slowly dies and wont start until the engine has cooled down. Could this be an overheat protection in the ms or could it be something else??? Thanks for you time Dave
  13. The pins are not contaminated which is one of the first things i check as i thought i might of over done it As for the connector it was fully tightened but as i have to unplug it every now and then i have left it just pushed in. Also i would like to add it only does it on start up (as in from ignition off) never from a restart after stalling and never cuts out when the engine is running.
  14. I bet you found out the same way I did. Anyway What he said
  15. Hi Firstly running MS on my v8 has transformed the engine which has made me Only thing that seems to be a bit dodgy is every now and then i'll turn on the cars ignition but i have no fuel pump prime as well as the MS not even turning on.. No amount of switching on and off the ignition will turn it on. I checked all the wires going to and from the MS and see nothing wrong, relays are all working fine as well. The thing that makes it a odd problem is the way to make it all come alive, All i have to do is unplug the looms multi pin connector from the MS ecu and then plug it back in, as soon as i do that its all fine. So if any of you lot have any ideas on how to fix this problem it will be great Thanks Dave
  16. Hi I want to fit an after market steering wheel to my 300 disco but not having much luck in finding a boss kit. I need a boss kit for a tradition Mountney wheel (101mm center) which fits on the small steering column shaft that looks to be 11/16" at the largest part of the taper. Looking thought the internet i pick up on that a morgan plus 4/8 may have the same column/switches, so i may be able to get a boss for that. Any info would be great Thanks Dave
  17. yer i had the same problem. changed the plug on the headlight and all was good.
  18. Back in my dyno tuning days my boss did explain to me about an engine reving freely (not under load) is bad for it. something to do with the way things spin and that the pistons/rods dont have anything to push against. I might of got the wrong end when he told me.
  19. Right a little up date. The tester did put the car though as a petrol, i noticed this when i looked on the Direct.gov MOT history checker that the fuel type had been updated at time of test but on the log book it states petrol and has sense May of this year. As for trying to heat the Catalyst (if that is what he was trying to do) when he was checking the exhaust system he should of notice there wasn't a cat in the system but i also hadn't stated that the engine was from a 1988 RRC. But thinking shouldn't the car failed due to the fact it didn't have a cat fitted?? Having looked over the gas analysis report this is what it read: Fast idle test FAIL Engine Speed = --- rpm NOT CHECKED CO level = 0.97% FAIL HC level = 84 ppm PASS Lambda = 1.03 PASS Second fast idle test NOT DONE Natural idle test NOT DONE OVERALL RESULT ABORTED Spoke to my uncle who works there and he said he was trying to get the engine hot to bring the levels down, which is why he was reving it so high. The MS does have the rev limiter set to 5500 rpm but it cuts fuel not spark as i'm running edis and as i've never reved it that high before i wouldn't know what sound the engine makes when sitting on the limiter. I understand that trying to prove any damage has been done will be like having a wee into the wind, but its the point it shouldn't of been done like that and the tester should in my eyes be sent way and trained again. Anyway on a good note after adding 4L of coolant back into the system cranked it over and it seems to run fine apart from it now is slightly hunting at idle.
  20. Dont worry I am plaining on going back. I just wanted to get some info to back myself up first. First thing monday i'm going to the garage down the road from me and have a chat to there mot tester to find out the facts on emissions.
  21. Hi So after lots of hard work I book my Disco into the MOT station that my uncle is a mechanic (but not a mot tester) My Disco is a ex 300tdi 3 door but now is fitted with a RRC 3.5 v8 with megasquirt and all the trimmings. I must say it was the first time i had driven the car with the MS and it run lovely and smooth. Also had a bit of get-up-and-go from the low comp engine which it never really had. The morning of the test I looked over and under the car checking everything over, making sure everything worked as it should and I could find no problems. I arrive at the test centre 10 min before my 2:30 appointment and the tester turned his nose up at it and said "thats a weekday job, not something I should have to do on saturday). I dropped the key of and went for a walk into town to get a few things for xmas, walked back an hour later (thinking it should be done by now) and they had only just started doing the test. About half an hour later I hear the v8 start up and rev a little, I thought to my self they must be doing the emissions. 10 min now pass and they start reving the hell out of the engine then they rev it to god knows what and hold it the for a good minute. It was screaming way to the point I thought it was going to let go. Then it all goes quite a few minutes later the start it up again and drive it out the building and into the car park. Then a bloke comes into the waiting room and said "landrover is all done. It failed on a few things." ok i thought thats what owning a land rover is all about. So he then tells me what "front offside indicator not work, nearside rear anti-roll bar link excessive play and the tester had to stop the emissions test because the engine over-heated, but it was reading to high anyway so it wouldn't of passed if it hadn't over-heated" I replied with "What! Thats more than likely due to the fact your tester was over reving the engine" he said "no thats what has to be done to get a good test" i looked at him turned around and walked out to see what had happen to the car. So i turned on my laptop plugged it into the MS and started the engine and It was hunting, misfiring, temp gauge was reading 97c and it sounded rough. I also tried the indicator which worked fine, just like it did that morning and on the drive to the test. I then went back in paid the bill and left. On the drive back home (2.5 miles) the engine was getting worse. every time i put my foot on the clutch to come to a stop the rpm will drop to idle, the oil light would come on and it would stall. Got home and by this time it was getting dark so i just park it up and today i will be trying to see what damage has been done to my V8 Well thats my rant over I hope its made a nice read for everybody Dave
  22. Well it looks like Frank Pickles will be getting my pennies. I got quoted £229.98 fully comp for my disco V8 with all mods as my second car limited to 5000 miles. Which also happens to be half the price of the next cheapest. If more people are turning to Frank Pickles for insurance after hearing about good deals others are getting, they should also say that they are members of LR4x4.com That way in the future they might give a small discount to forum members.
  23. Well i'm having the same problem with high quote's. For my disco 300 V8 with mods (lift kit and wheels/tyres), limited to 5000 miles, as second car and with me being 28, 3 years ncb Adrian Flux just told me it would cost £938 I dont even pay half that for my 200 bhp honda crx.... Whats the world coming to. And i can see why people drive around without insurance
  24. Well i tested it with my meter and yes it showed 12 volts. And just to clear up the valve is fully open as soon as i turn the ignition on, the engine is cranking, on warm-up and when the engine is at running temp.
