  1. Hi all, Sorry it been a while, Lots has happened over the 8 months. And now we have done 13,000 mile since April and the air suspension is playing up alot. I noticed while in work that the back of the car looked low so I decided to have a look as the pump was not working no longer. So looking for fuse's and relays and my wife had found a 30amp link fuse had blown so I replaced and it worked fine. And now a week later it happened again the fuse has gone. When I replaced to fuse it worked fine But I did notice that as I start work at 7am it has been freezing here upto -8 and I have read that this freezing weather could be a cause of it. I really don't want to pay for LR dealer just to tell me I was unlucky. Can I ask what else could cause the fuse to blow? She don't sink over night so she holds air it just takes a few days for it to even notice she is going down. So to keep it up I link the blown fuse till she reaches her ride hight. (I know I should not do it but I need the car to get to/from work as no one else lives in the same area as I do that does the same shift) I got/get no warning lights and I'm just about to change the ACE fluid under the bonnet. But I wait till this fuse is sorted. Many thanks JJ
  2. Ok thanks for your tips, I look in to getting it refilled, but I know it was refilled last year (Still have the reciept from Halfords) so if it not got any gas left then the chance it got a major leak somewhere. If there a common place for it to go? I was thinking if it would be worth dismatling it and replace all the seals and then recharge it or am I wasting my time. I really want to restore it as they say whats the point in having something in the car that don't work? I have the rave cd so I can see where everything is and what to do so that is not a problem. I look in to it in more detail and I see about refilling it. Thanks again ........JJ
  3. Hi all, thanks for reading this post, I hope someone can tell me how to start up the air con in my 2000, TD5 discovery. I can't seem to get it turned on no matter how hard I try. All I know is the air con compressor is ment to spin when turned on, but it only the outer belt that spins. It has always been used in the summer every year and serviced before it's trip to Spain. So am I doing something wrong here? This model has Air conditioning system and it's all working ok. So could someone tell me how to turn it on, as we are thinking of re gassing it ourselfs. we have read through the manual and cant seem to work it out, any help will be appreicated. Regards...JJ
  4. I'm wondering if you can still get the paint in the spray can from the dealers. The paint is from a 2000 model TD5 and I have some rust around the door where the rubber boot covers the wiring. I don't want to just treat it and not have the right colour there. I remember my Dad did get some shortly after buying the car and he scratched the bumper. But was wondering if they still do orders or am I better off going to a paint maker and ask them to make a paint up for me? Thank for your help. ......JJ
  5. That's bad news, Well I hope they don't find any more damage then said so far! Hope to see you back on the road soon. .......JJ
  6. Nige, I been told to remove the pressure switch from the housing and give it a clean then try again if that fails then replace it as the light is on amber not red. You will need a long reach 28mm socket to get the switch off, I don't have one yet but getting one on Wed. I let you know if it works. ......JJ
  7. Ian S, Thanks for the tip. I'm selling the old disco to buy new tyres, for it but would really like to get the genuine once but there hard to find and not cheap! But I will get them looked at to be on the safe side as I'm doing a lot of travelling later in the year and I don't think I would want a tyre blowing out on me. LR Nut, I will do that soon I'm going to the dealers soon to get service parts so while there I get new clips for the rear panel when I take it off. So I do it then and thanks for the warning. Steve Hiatt, What age was it? £1200 for a disco and a tidy profit is going to be someone's lucky day but a Shogun!! Give me british any day! Got a Toyota and never buy another again there brilliant when working but a pain when not! The Ace light is back on again god whats next!! ......JJ
  8. Thanks for your replys. LR Nut, I will do that was just funny as I looked at it today still very clean but it don't say it not rusting inside though! What I will do is remove in and clean it up. Even though it was factory fitted will it still be the same as an aftermarket or later fitting? The only bad rust I have of the car is the sway bar that holds the rear door and around the rear doors where the wiring goes in so is you remove the rubber tube from the door I would need to clean it up. apart from that it's all clean. Also had a scare yesterday the ACE system caame on after driving down a dirt track (Did have the car raised on it's suspension) so took it for a jet wash the underside only to get the mud off and it back to normal now, Do anyone know what is causing it? is there anything I can do to prevent it happening again? .....JJ
  9. Hi all, I'm back after a little break for here as I am a student at photography. Any our last car is now on E bay as there too much work for me to do so my father was thinking of selling his car. So managed to find the money for it as he would need to replace it. Anyway this car was built to his spec and then sent to Holland and my father went over to pick it up in April 2000. She never been hardly used hence the low mileage only to 4 trips to Spain for 4 years in a row while my brothers where young but as there older he felt he had no need for a big car and decided to let us have it cheap. This car has had very little repairs to it over the 10 years, both rear calipers where replaced had 2 sets of pads with the last pair just been replaced last week due to a sticking cylinder in the front caliper. Sunroof motor stopped work a couple of times but has been fixed. And something to do with the ACE but this part Accelerometer has been replaced. (Not sure what it is as I'm new to the TD5) So far it has only done 41.051 miles to date. Still has the original tyres all round and has loads of extra's fitted to it. I don't intend to mess around with this one as it is in a fantastic condition but I am going to fit in more genuine extra's to it like the cruise control, dog guard etc. I may have left you wondering why a bargain we only paid £5500 with 12 months tax and MOT and we had it valued at £8000 as it stands so we are very happy with it. I have added some images of the car and I hope you like.
  10. I have just bought a Discovery TD5 ES just had it's 10th birthday last week, so W Reg. 7 seats the extra's it has include are door scruff trims, side steps, roof ladder, 6 CD and head unit, built in composs in the rear view mirror. Full service history all done by Land Rover, no rust on it only odd screw here and there. 41,000 miles on the clock in Silver and only paid £5500. with 12 months tax and MOT. So you can find a bargin about! ......JJ
  11. Is it possiable to see if the diesel was pumped out of the lift pump and see if there oil in it? Or is that a run engine job? .......JJ
  12. Hi all sorry I have been away for a while my disco is going so well that I don't have to do much to it only check the levels and top up when needed , anyway the reason for your help is for a friend he got a disco 300tdi R reg and it started to blow blue smoke. I know that means it burning oil but where do you think? I tell you what he said to me and I leave it t you to say what you think it is. He was coming home from Liverpool on the A55 and got to about Rhyl area and traveling at 70mph, he slowed down as he wanted to over take a car but another car was passing his, again slowed down a bit more. Then he pulled out and floored it to get the speed up but there was no power on the gas and blue smoke came out of the exhaust, in the end it cleared and picked up but still slacking in power he had noticed it been like this for a while. Next he got off the A55 to the A5 he then had trouble getting the speed up for road use but it was getting worse and worse, (I'm not sure what the smoke was like then weather is was still smoking or not) then he got near to home on a slight hill it would not pull up it stuck in 2nd gear and only driving at 15mph. Anyway the following day he started it up and the tick over was lumpy. So he turned it off and called for my help then I went there yesterday just to have a quick look, it ticked over better and rev-ed ok but not at first had to wait for about 20 min but it still kicked out blue smoke when rev-ed hard, but it's ok on tick over. He don't want to spend a lot on it as he is selling the car soon as he only got it for his caravan but sadly it got stolen this year, hence the reason he selling it. I boiled it down to the fuel lift leaking, Valve seals leaking or he just suddenly lost compression in the cylinders also there the turbo. Any of them right or do you have an better idea than me? If it going to cost too much or not worth repairing it he selling it for scrap (Hope not but if he does then I'm saving my penny's as it in good condition for what it is) another thing he has it serviced every year at the garage and 8 months ago he had the timing belt changed been to France since, I think this is all I can say at this moment but I hope you can help. Sorry for the long write up but thought I better say what I know up front. Thanks again JJ
  13. Thank you Western, I get them ordered tomorrow morning. .........JJ
  14. Could anyone give me the part numbers for the seals in the rear axle? I'm after the inner and outer seals with a diff seal too please. It's a 24 spindle 1994 Discovery ES. I'm changing the Axle casing and I am buying the axle brand new so I dont have this problem again and so I can keep it in working order. Is there anything else I would be needing when changing over the casing? also any tips that could help me? Thank you .....JJ
  15. Cheers guys I will have a look in to the pump as my genuine rocker gasket come today so I had that off and did a clean behind the head and there was no oil there but I had a return pipe from the rocker to the pump? Well that was not fixed on! the clip was too small and replaced that with bigger clip and I will give the engine block a good deep clean tomorrow and see what happens. But think I will look at the pump tomorrow as there is a lot of oil there. So thanks for your help guys .......JJ
  16. Hi all it now been a week since the disco been on the road, And had to sort out a few problems and now more has come up but have no idea! First off the the steering juddered till I picked up the speed and had it looked at by a landrover dealer and they said it was the UJ on the front prop now that been replaced. Next was the Alternator was replaced as it was grinding. Now did a oil dipstick cheak and it on min! where it was full last weekend. I can see where it been leaking as there oil all over the anti roll bar and the gearbox housing is covered in fresh oil, but cant see where it leaking from. Do anyone know where it could be coming from? Meaning is there a common place for it to leak from? I don't want to take it all apart and replace nothing for nothing. It been for a jet wash last week and did the engine bay and I can't see any oil there now. Only around the clutch housing area. And now the rear axle is leaking too so going to sort that out in the week. It a 300tdi Es 1994 Discovery. Thanks for any help that come's forward .........Regards JJ
  17. I or should I say we would like to say a huge thank you for your help in the last few months and I mean a huge thank you . Without your help Disco could still be sitting here waiting for the rest of her work to be done. So today she was booked in at 1pm and me sitting there with my partner biting my nails wondering if she would pass lol. Only got 2 advisery N/S/F wheel bearing needed tighting, and pitting on the rear disks, so there done now apart from disk's they will be ordered next week. The biggest baffle I had has the ABS light would not go out so spending the most of the day looking for the code and it turned out to be the main fuse had blown! It flashed 1 the 2 then 3 and started again , So thats been replaced. So thats another disco saved from the scrap yard I say and a very happy new Landy owner Thanks guys for all your help and look forward to helping others in return for your help. Now WHERE THE MUD!!!! 19. Hi guys yes I'm VERY sure it's the water pump as I took off the belt and tried it, and there was no squeak so turned each one over and it the water pump that squeaked. There no noise or movement in the other bearings etc. I try the washing up soap and see what happens. Thanks again ......JJ Also I try the penny trick too sorry left that out, .........JJ
  20. Hi all, I have this problem of a squeaky water pump and it annoying!, It very new about 1 1/2 month old and not even done a mile yet. I replaced the pump because the other one was squeaking so thought I better replace with a brand new Bechmach (not sure how to spell it it sorry) and this one started to squeak. I read that I can buy a conditioner from Forte's, but is that the answer will it be OK? what are your view's on this? Please look forward to your replies. Discovery 300tdi ES L reg. ......JJ

  22. I have left the battery for a few days and nothing happened to it I have put it on full charge but that was before I played with the electrics. I put it on full charge again and see what happens ......JJ P.s how do you do this? Have you actually taken a reading of the current draw with the engine/vehicle turned off? Thanks again .....JJ
  23. Thanks for your reply's, First off I tested the battery with out the earth being on, and it reads at 11.1 volts (this has been like that since 30 May). So disconnected the alternator and it did not move then took each fuse out one by one and nothing happened! Then I took the relays out still nothing. Then I ran the engine tested it and it was reading at 13.3 volts. So now I made sure everything is off even the face of the radio unit is off and see what happens tomorrow. Or is there something I have done wrong? .......JJ
  24. Hi all long time no see lol, Right I been having a problem with the car electrics. Every 2 days the battery would be flat as a pancake, So what could be the cause? All I can say is the passenger floor has been socked in very heavy weather, So I took all the relays out took them apart, Sprayed WD40 in then shake it then put it back together (Did this 1 by 1 so there no mix up). The Brown relay has been giving me problems if I move the wire or relay the hazards starts up and will not go off until I turn on the ignition on as I'm just going to start it up then it goes off then it remains like that. Any idea's? cheers for any help that comes forward ........JJ Forgot to add it's a ES Discovery L reg 2.5TDI
