  1. Are you going to the LRM Max show in Newark? Defendoor will be there and he's making another batch for his stand if he can! Otherwise behind the seats seems the best place and just make your own box?
  2. Well i was given this link which seems quite handy, but problem is the price of shallow mount subs is quite expensive! Sub fitting It is about half way down the page, i would like to do that but shallow mounts are about 90 quid a pop and then there is still fitting, amp etc to consider!
  3. Well i'm putting rear speakers in which shall be 6x9's and i found some great 1000watt ones, I like my music loud anyway, obviously the head unit cant do them justice so i want to fit an amp somewhere discreet as possible. I like the space available on the bulkhead behind the seats.... Is it possible? Or maybe behind the seats? Any ideas would be welcome, and apologies for all of those who hate loud music players in advance im sure i'll get some stick. Oh and just so you know, i listen to fleetwood mac, supertramp, 311, neil young and so on so you dont have to worry your encouraging another drum and bass lout
  4. Hi there, i have a TD5 90 (55 reg) Van converted into station wagon, was wondering if anyone had something similar and has put speakers in the back, pics would be great. I want to fit some but i dont want them in the way and the only space i can think of is behind the seats (inward facing) but its pretty small and i doubt i can get 6x9's in. Was thinking maybe 6.5 rounds in an enclosure? Anyway i went round, the local car stores including halfords (regrettably) and yeah no one seems to want to touch it. Except Carisma Bodyshop (the people that do pimp my ride uk) who want to charge a fortune! I was hoping for a low cost solution fitting wise as all my friends and family have commented on the lack of sound in the back. Cheers
  5. That is a great idea!! I'm going to buy one now... Drove behind a disco with a sticker reading "I like to do it in the mud" I thought that was also pretty comical but between the two i reckon i'll 'stick' to yours. (that was a horrible pun)
  6. So explain to me, whats involved and how much would it cost to remove the cat and what not? And what would i actually end up with at the end of the day? Also! Does anybody know how to learn all these mechanical things? I'd love to do a course over the summer so i actually know my way around an engine instead of looking at it like a bunch of metal bits joined by wires hidden by a big plastic cover.
  7. I think it's a little hit and miss i quote from one of the stage 1/2 tuning websites "some people actually notice an improvement in mpg" by the sounds of it its not even guaranteed, just down to the way you drive it! Oh and by the way i wasn't intending on racing any, corsa's, zetec s engines, golf gti's or what not. Haha i've never raced before and dont intend to, too many accidents and close calls had by my friends to even consider the idea. The idea of getting these tweaks is just to not get left behind... Or maybe just have a little more "on tap" as its been put so well.
  8. That is amazing?!! how did you get such a low insurance quote for that car? What insurance group is it anyway? Oh yeah i pay £2900 a year for my 2005 defender 90 and i also have to pay out the first £750 of any accident thats my fault... Woohoo! But then again, i have a landrover.... Worth every penny! Try fitting an insurance approved alarm, i'm installing a cat 1 Thatcham immobiliser and that'll bring the insurance down by £300! Someone also mentioned the named driver schwindle, i put my mum as the first driver as she's got 4 years no claims... and thats the kicker there, by being a named driver (unless your with bell direct, or the one with the red phone on wheels) you dont earn your own no claims bonus!
  9. Yeah this is the other side to it, I am very happy with it as it is im in no way knocking the car, i've come to a self agreement that i'm going to drive it for the next few months and if i still feel the same then i will go ahead with the remap. Otherwise, problem solved!
  10. That sounds like a good idea! Hadn't thought of that
  11. Oh and just to clear things up, me and the old man are going ins on a stage 2 remap, probably from td5 alive. Not the cheapest option but hey, it'll be fun and i've received great feedback from post-tuned defender owners.
  12. Yeah its being driven to scotland and back from essex all motorway miles regularly, the nearest places to me are all via A roads at least and the nearest slip roads give me about 50 metres run up and on busy but not fast roads, i would find it more CONVINIENT to have a quicker start up. At no point did i say i have to have these upgrades or im screwed... i just said it would make it more pleasurable... I can pull out of junctions fine thanks, there are a lot of blind junctions near when i live and i know from experience and from constant intruction that sometimes it is safer to give it the gas instead of stop and sit there like a dead duck and with me having to pay the first £750 of any claim i would rather not take that risk if i can avoid it. Unfortunately its one of those places where 'creep n peep' just doesn't cut it. Im going to repeat myself again just to see if you can get it clear this time, i didnt ask anyones opinion on if i should bother with any power upgrades, i asked if they knew any ways to do so cheaply... Is that fair enough?
  13. Haha thanks guys, i really didnt mean that i wanted a hatchback style of driving, as unbelievable as it sounds to the "learn how to drive it accordingly" people of this forum i can actually drive a large vehicle and have been lugging round in a huge old diesel van for my work without power steering that makes driving the landy a piece of cake. Aragorn hit the nail on the head with his point, i would like to enjoy a little more speed in it from time to time doesnt mean i want to be racing fiesta's and bloody corsa's all day long. At the end of the day its my vehicle and i can do with it whatever i like As for the remap, it really does seem to be the lead choice, although it costs more, have chatted to me old man about it and he just laughed and said as long as it's legal. I'll just have to save up some monies then from now until the end of summer! Thanks to those who pitched in with ideas.
  14. Your quite right i know, i drive it very sensibly anyway as i can practically hear the insurance prices and the involuntary excess coming out of the exhaust not to mention the money spent on fuel. I cant help being 18 though im afraid! I would just love a little more pull as to not be left behind by my mates in their poofmobiles.
  15. Oh yeah thats the best option i know and i've been looking on the td5 alive site but you see there is a complication. I share the car with my father and he paid equal amount for it with me in the first place, he has no intention to have it upgraded. He has a fast car already and only intends to use the defender for fishing trips... I was hoping to get something smaller done with the hope of him not needing to know about it (i sort out all the insurance anyway).
