  1. I used ep90 for 12years with plenty of hard offroad use and never had a problem, when i stripped the axles as part of a complete rebuild they were in almost perfect condition. That said after the rebuild I used 1 shot but found the swivels seamed to be "dry" with road grime sticking to the swivel surface, I added a top up of ep90 and I'm happy with the result, been running it for 2years & 25K miles post rebuild and the swivels are clean with a "greasy film". hope this helps.! regards Gren
  2. Hi Nick, i've used protecta coat for the footwells on my bulkhead both inside and up into the engine bay the inside is covered with a wright off-road mat so not subject to wear but it seals the seams very well, it's been very hard wearing on the outer footwells also I've also had the rear tub and bulkhead sprayed with line-x, just wish i had done the bulkhead and floor plates with it also. regards all Gren
  3. Hi Paul, I booked 3 days camping with billing and they have transfered the dates, however I now have to try to get the time off.! I think Live are hoping everyone will transfer to the new dates to avoid refunds.. keep pushing them if you can't make the new dates. Regards Gren
  4. Hi All, I've just swapped a UJ and yet again it's due to 1 cup running dry despite regular greasing. Does anyone know a supplier of UJ's that have slots in the end of the spider. I'm sure i've seen them somewhere. As it is i slotted the end of the new one i fitted and pumped it full of grease & hurrah grease out of all 4 cups, hopefully this UJ will last a while longer than the last. cheers Gren
  5. Thanks for that, i've got a supply for caps but it would be nice to just buy the right ones from LR Regards Gren

  7. Hi jason, that's why i go to shows .. plagiarists are us.. have a good new year Gren
  8. Hi Jason, I was there last june and really enjoyed it, however there's not a lot of trade stands selling "bits" like billing, however if you want to equip your vehicle for a ROW trip or get ideas it's a great show. I camped in the town site and used the shuttle bus, it was very well organised - no gypo's, no worries about thieves & not a trackie & vest to be seen, the camp site was great with just as many great vehicles as at the show. If you like different 4x4's or have a million euros for a fully equipped camping truck complete with its own internally stored zook it's definitely worth the trip. I booked my time off for 2012 show the day i got back home. see you there Gren
  9. Thanks for posting yep its RRC not RTC have to check my posts in future and not just dash them out. As for the labels i've seen 2 vehicles @ billing last weekend with them on so now i'm well pi**!d i can't find them I have been told they are NLA and deleted years ago. guess i'll have to give it up and not be so anal. Many thanks. gren
  10. can anyone help with finding the part numbers for the open/close label that sits in the door top lock assy for the early 110 and millitary doortops RTC4878 & RTC4879. a minor thing but it grips me knowing the labels are missing..!! Ta Gren
  11. Hi ed, I thought i had a problem with the cyclone breather, i cleaned it and fed the crancase vent to a bottle and blocked the intake port to see how much was going to the turbo, after doing this i found the turbo was defo passing oil but the cyclone was also carp at stopping the oil mist getting into the air intake. I replaced the turbo and also swapped the cyclone breather for an alisport breather, this is much more effective than the original breather all ok since. (have had head gasket fail since which also killed the new turbo but thats another issue) sorry for the delay in replying i been in germany, 1590 miles in the 90 and all good now. regards Gren
  12. sorry to hear about this it's a real bummer, however.. I have heard 2 similar cases recently one was a work colleague in my locality of south wales. in both cases the vehicles were stolen less than a month after purchase, one from the front drive overnight and the other from a morrisons store in barry. the 110 taken from the super market was taken in under 5 mins as the owner was only 5 mins in the store. it was suspected that the vehicles had been stolen back by the people selling them in the first place using spare keys, as in further investigations they could not be traced. not saying this is the case with yours but it pays to sort the security straight away, my colleague is out of pocket 11K and insurance company is refusing to pay out. hope you get it back. regards all Gren
  13. Hi Simon thanks for the prompt reply. That makes sense as i seemed to have a persistent wet spot on the back of the head at the gasket seam that i put down to weeping rocker gasket. I used an Elring 3 hole gasket & had the head decked when it was off last, I used new bolts and 3stage angle torque down. when its off i'll get the head pressure tested in case. if this is a common problem is there an updated head gasket available. regards
  14. hi chaps, I've had oil leaking/burning issues for the last couple of weeks. however today i noticed my 300tdi was smoking badly with bluish smoke and a distinct smell of burning oil but only at idle. at the time i saw the smoke i had stopped at a junction after coming off the motorway, after pulling away it cleared until the next junction. when the engine is under load there is no smoke & the temp gauge stays bang on at 80, it does not use water and there are no bubbles in the header tank. with the engine running I popped the bonet and removed the oil filler cap and found it was under pressure, the sump is also covered in oil leaking from the gasket . I rebuilt this engine 5K miles ago with new rings, bearings, headset & turbo and now this... I'm hopping its the headgasket & not the rings. has anyone heard of a failed head / headgasket failing in this way before i rip into it.. regards all
  15. Hi Chaps A good example of a morse cable is an automatic gearbox shifter cable. just a thought.... regards Gren
  16. Hi chaps I have a problem with door locks recently bought from a well known supplier, the lock fits the rear door perfectly however the locks in the front door sit above the top of the lock barrel. I can also pull the lock out of the barrel a couple of mm, it seems the locking pins are too small for the hole in the barrel. The other thing that has wound me up is the locks were supplied with 2 keys however only 1 of the keys fitted the locks. when I brought this up with the supplier it was suggested I get another key cut.! has anyone else had issues with poor fitting locks or know if genuine ones are better or still available. regards Gren
  17. Hi would anyone have the part number for the side button shifter as used on the 50th defender and discovery I would like to change my finger tip shifter to a side button. however I have been unable to obtain the part number and the Local dealer wont search for it without a chassis number.! ta in advance Gren
  18. hi there i did see an adaptor in one of the landy mags last month that located the shifter to the place normally taken by the cubby, i have seen a number of installs using fabricated consoles some good most are nasty. you can buy a copy of the nas & 50th auto console from ashcrofts £400 approx you will need support bracket also i have attached pics of my original console during a trial fit prior to painting. regards Gren
  19. Hi Chris As I have found out the hard way if your fitting a new hood from scratch fit the hood and allow it to drape in the sun for an hour or so to allow the canvas to open out then mark the position of the front hooks using the canvas as a guide drill and fit the front hooks, fit the ropes to the hooks. then mark the rear corners again using the hood as a guide make sure you pull the hood tight, fit the hooks then use the canvas as a guide to mark the rest of the side hooks. I have found many hoods have the cord spacings slightly off to each other ( i have had 3 on my 90 over 10 yrs) when it is fitted make sure it is pulled tight and kept tight as it will shrink when it gets wet the first few times. have fun Gren
  20. HI Nigel thanks for the reply but i had checked the seals and replaced mine 3 weeks ago to be sure. Today I pulled the head and turbo & found the turbo has been passing oil..! the inlet manifold was full of sticky carbon gunge. looks like new turbo... A*!E
  21. Hi Chaps,I have a dilemma with the TDI engine in my 90. I am just about to get it sprayed following a long build however the engine gives blue smoke when idling, I rebuilt the head & replaced the valve stem seals, head gasket & timing belt before fitting it 2years ago. I was assured it ran perfectly when it was removed from the donor Disco I don't know the mileage on the block I have been unable to take the car for a run to see if it clears after a long run,& I have only been able to run it at idle for no longer than 15-20 mins since it was installed due to having neighbours that don't share my fascination for cars. the blue smoke disappears when the revs are held up however the exhaust is sticky rather than sooty, the glow plugs all have a small amount of dry soot on them. there is no oil in the intake as all pipes are clean & the intercooler is new. I have even left it idle without intercooler to see if the smoke clears to prove turbo. after years of V8's this 300 is getting me worried as I don't know if I am fretting about nothing. I am at the point of replacing the rings and while the pistons are out the big ends before I get it sprayed and at the MOT stn it fails on smoke. Ideas & opinions please... Ta in advance please no swap it for a V8 comments.....
  22. Hi Enrique on my trans box p#01253 is correct but the diff lock switch is 2X 1/4" crimp connectors straight from loom to switch. regards Gren
  23. Hi there can someone confirm that all the 300 tdi wings take the larger plug in side & indicators lights, as i am about to buy a pair and don't want to open up the side and indicator holes to fit my RDX Nas lights. Ta Gren
