  1. i have squirted wd40 on the uj's on the steering shaft and still the same. i have took off the steering damper and it's still the same.there seems to be some play in the drop arm from the steering box is this replacable or is it a new box time.jonno.
  2. hi i just got back from the mot station with a nice red failure sheet.my 93 disco 200tdi has failed on 1 point "power steering malfunctioning".i had a word with the tester who told me that the problem is that when turning direction from left to right the steering stiffens for a second then goes back to normal.i havn't noticed this while driving but it definately happens when stationary.the tester had'st a clue whats causing it. the stifness only happens when changing from left to right. i'm gong to go and have a look now to see if i can see anything.any suggestions what to check would be a great help. thanks, jonno.
  3. i am thinking that using box section is the best way forward.from the other threads im thinking 100 x 60mm is the best size.does anyone know somewhere local to rotherham'sheffield that can get some from my usual source doesnt stock this size and suggested i use angle iron instead.any help would be welcome. cheers, jonno.
  4. hi hope this link works ok. My link
  5. hi i need to sort out my sills for the mot on my 94 200tdi disco.i have read several threads on the subject and it seems they all use 100 x 60mm box section to replace the sills but i was wondering if any one has used the repare panels sold on ebay. they are listed at £15.00 and £14.00 postage which seems cheap. i am a novice welder and was wondering if these preformed panels would be easier to weld and quicker to fix. thanks jonno.
  6. i was driving home last night in my 1994 200tdi disco when i noticed that when i indicact left my headlights cut out.when i turn the indicator off they come back on.if i indicate right theres no problem.also the light on the dash that flashes with the indicators only works inermitantly though my indicators work ok. any help would be welcome, thanks, jonno.
  7. hi, was wondering which grade engine oil i need to fill my 200 tdi with when i change my oil and filter. its a 1994 200 tdi with 108,000 miles on the clock. thanks, jonno.
  8. hi thanks for the replies. changed the cv joint with a kit from paddoks and the clicking has stopped. cheers all.
  9. hi thanks for the replies. is it a straight forward job or a pain in the ar*e to do. cant seem to find a guide in the tech archive. thanks, again, jonno.
  10. hi, i'm hoping someone might have an idea what is causing a clicking /knocking noise from the front passenger side wheel on my mates 1992 disco 200tdi. it makes the noise at low speeds mainly when reversing but only when the steering wheel is turned one full turn in either direction. i have had a look and cant see anything wrong wheels aren't catching,no bearing play, track rod ends seem ok, so i was hoping some one might have an idea what we are missing before it has a trip to the garage. thanks in advance, jonno.
  11. thanks for the replies. i put the good rear wheels from the back onto the front today and i will be getting 2 new tyres put on the back tommorrow. i had a better look at everything and found everything looking ok except for a little play in the front passenger side hub.the play is when i rock the wheel with hands in the 12 and 6 o'clock position. there is no play with hands at the 3 and 9 o'clock position. can the bearings be adjusted or is it a case of replacing them? thanks again, jonno
  12. i have a 200tdi disco on an l plate. i noticed today i need a new front drivers side tyre as it has worn down to the tread indicator.on closer inspection it is more worn on he inner of the tyre.the front passenger side tyre has also worn more on the inner side of the tyre.the back tyres are both wearing evnly. so the question is what is the likly cause as i want to sort it if i can before i replace the font tyres.i cant feel play in the bearings and the ball joints and bushes seem ok. thanks in advance jonno.
  13. my ast car had a wobble at 60mph it gradually got worse i checked all bushes and suspension parts everything was ok finally solved the wobble with new tyres was a case of one tyre had lost its balance weights and was wearing unevenly so may be worth checking tyres for wear and tear
  14. thanks to all who replied to my posts it is now starting ok and everything is working as it should. it turned out to be a corroded solodered joint on the fusible link which ran to the alarm box. i re-attached the link and everything is now working. jonno.
  15. thanks chrisw70 just checked and one of the links has turned to green dust. i cleaned off the green stuff and joined the wires together and hey presto everythings working again.what would be the best way to fix it do i need to add a new fusable link if so how do i go about it.for the min ive just taped the wires together. thanks again to everyone who replied to my posts, jonno.
