  1. Lesmond - can you PM me the eBay seller ID - I'd like one of those!
  2. So what about just getting an old Toyota Hilux and bolting its axles underneath a 90? Those things are meant to be bullet proof (diffs/shafts/CV's etc) and surely a LOT cheaper than Ashcroft upgrades??
  3. Huh? I think you mean next year? This year's TDF starts in Strasbourg tomorrow...
  4. >> Anything interesting happening in July? The Tour de France! (It's not in Sussex though.....)
  5. Cheapest way by far is to buy my set of 5 (yes, FIVE) 24 spline axles! I have a rear with brand new Lockheed discs, and four fronts, all of which are ABS type CV's (reputed to be stronger than 'normal' 24 spline stuff). This would give you front and rear 24 spline upgrade in one hit, with 3 complete sets of spare difs, CV's, swivels (on set is even teflon coated), halshafts, bearings, hubs, stub axles, axle casings etc... And I'd do the lot for less than upgrading to Ashcoft.... basically want £600 for the whole lot.
  6. I just posted this onm a mountain biking Forum I ferquent... it's time we 4x4 drivers started shouting some REAL data back at the media and pressure groups - car size data, fuel economy, instead of just suckming up the fatuous twaddle they propagate: Sorry - did I log onto an Anti 4x4 Forum by mistake? Gas-guzzling, road-hogging, air-polluting.. The Independent article starts. Hhmm, how many miles to the gallon does a 5 Series BMW do? Or a TVR? Or in fact most of the exec saloon cars and luxury barges seen on our roads today? My diesel Range Rover did 29.5mpg - my wife's Isuzu Trooper 24mpg. When I test drove a 328 BMW I was thinking of buying the trip computer read 17.8mpg. And the larger BMW's and Mercs return 14-16mpg. Our petrol Ford Galaxy returned 22mpg if we were lucky. I must have missed the logic that a 4x4 delivering better fuel economy than a lot of the other cars on our roads today is a gas-guzzling air polluting monster.... Road-hogging... ? Checking the Government's own databse on UK vehicle size data, a Land Rover Discovery at 4484mm length is smaller than a Ford Mondeo, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Honda Accord, Ford Galaxy, Mercedes E class, Peugeot 406, Vauxhall Vectra, VW Passat, and almost every model Volvo make! Oh, and it's and only marginally longer than a Ford Focus. When is the media and our Government going to start using real data instead of stirring up vehemence based on twaddle and conjecture? As for taxing 4x4 drivers £2,000 - personally, I can't understand why most urban 4x4's are used, but I'm absolutely against singling out a tiny minority of the population and unfairly penalising them based on their chosen behaviour. If we allow this to happen what next? Taxing mountain bikers because they create so much havoc in the countryside? Frankly, anyone who drives whilst on the phone or doesn't wear a seat belt is an idiot, whether in a 4x4 or any car.
  7. Will email you some of mine in the next few days..
  8. That's exactly where mine is on my 1973 RaRo chassis. Les, it's hard to see it on such an old chassis - put your other glasses on Dear!
  9. You know, at this rate it won't be long before insurance companies decline cover on cars fitted with Scrapiron Racing suspension - just too much risk! Wouldn't like it to happen to my car, which I take my wife and kids around in. I remember only too well inspecting a Scrapiron rear radius arm that had completely sheared from its bush section due to very poor quality welding. Luckily it broke at low speed but imagine if it had happened at 60mph? Why risk your life for this cr@p?
  10. It's easy... take the whole engine and gearbox out in one lump - then you have great access to the bellhousing bolts!
  11. Mach 5's - Not all they're cracked up to be! Ha ha! I had the exact same problem on a set I had on a car recently. They were the pre-rolled edge ones. I called Matt Lee and spoke to the man himself. He told me they stopped making these rims (pre-rolled edge) approx 4 years ago and that they were not willing to provide any sort of manufacturer's warranty against materials or workmanship as 4 years was (and I quote verbatim) "Beyond the intended working life of the rim". WTF??????? Mach 5's are some of the higher priced wheels out there - more than £100 each and they're not supposed to last even 4 years??? And what about that statement - the man himself saying that they don't stand by their workmanship. Er, yeah, righto Matt. I'll be buying another set then... NOT!
  12. Since most of us on here are dedicated LR4x4 members and have been on here a while why not increase the required post count to say 50 or even 100 to post on the Classifieds. That would probably stop the spammers who find it easy to make 20 rubbish posts with full-stops in or whatever.... 'Wanted' ads/posts could be made by anyone regardless of the number of posts..?
  13. Duh... what I said this afternoon.. bring it over here and I'll scan it fer ya.
  14. I saw that.... and I must say it's got me thinking about an 8274 and Simex's on a Renault Espace!
  15. Well on lockers, no... but with Toyota or Nissan axles you wouldn't need to spend £££ on uprated CV's, shafts etc as the standard otems are so much stronger and better made than LR stuff.
  16. ....and that is exactly the problem. LR axles are so weak, and you need to spend £2,500 to make them stronger! This is why so many people are doing Portals or looking into adapting better quality axles (Toyota, Nissan etc) which could work out cheaper and stronger in the short and long term....
  17. Agreed. I've found it quite good of late but was very disappointed with this month's - took all of 10 mins to read cover-to-cover. Would have rather spent my £3.75 on coffee and doughnuts!
  18. I don't think even it's mother would love it.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/land-rover-series-1-...1QQcmdZViewItem Why one Earth would you do that to a LR??????
  19. PM me your bottom-line price mate - as a friend of mine is looking for one of these right now and is buying one this weekend. Could collect tomorrow if right price... Si
  20. 160bhp + 200 ft lbs torque for £250 = V8. Td5 or TGV - loadsamoney.
  21. Adrian concentrating on his winch wee technique... Pig wallowing in all the Poo Adrian's Hybrid just dumped out... no he's not kneeling, it really was that deep
  22. Oh - must have been someone else.... (too much wine last night!)
