  1. 4 and 6 bolt use the same fittings - interchangeable. It's the 3 bolt that won't work. The 4 bolt PAS boxes are generally regarded as tougher units...
  2. My suggestions for improvement: 1. Tea available (purchaseable) all day please! 2. Dry it out a bit... got a big hairdryer? B)
  3. I should think it's open to anyone who wants to come regardless of type of car Simon. It's a very slippery site so be sure to wear aggressive tyres. And bring a towrope.
  4. Excellent day out Paul and thanks for organising it. I even managed to keep the roof on my car all day!
  5. A car like that, or to that concept, will be very much in vogue in the coming 3 years on the Winch Challenge circuit. Howveer, we are in for a creative time with the DVLA etc as many event organisers do require cars to be taxed and MOT'd, and you are often required to bring your MOT certificate with you to scrutineering (not that we've ever actually been asked to produce it, but they have often just looked at tax disc). Weight is the next great frontier in Challenges...
  6. Steve, I put Red/White's on the front of my last Tdi 90, using the same RaRo rubber/plastic cushioning rings that you have but both on the front. I had an 8274 in Southdown bumper, both of which are heavyv and the car sat level front to back. On teh rear - and you may wish to look into these - I used Red/Yellow springs. These are from a Discovery, are also cheap and easily available. I used them because they are almost exactlly the same length as the Red/White ones but are 150lbs rated... therefore 20lbs softer. With the weight being at the front of the car 99.9% of the time I searched for a softer spring at the rear and found the Red/Yellow's.
  7. I voted "YES". Just seems to me that in tehse times of DVLA/Ramblers/Government/Anti's/Everyone against us the media could do with whatever help they get, so long as they are pro-Off-Roading.
  8. So are you going to tell us how to get to this site Paul or should we just take a mystery tour? .. or did I already miss the directions?
  9. Si - I have a spare diesel tank which is in good enough condition if you want it - £35. Can bring to Paul's Virgin Site this Sunday if you do.... also, wasn't it you that wanted that twisted truck cab? I live quite close to the site so if you need any bits or want the whole thing... needs collection.
  10. That's a lovely motor Ali - although it wouldn't look like that after 5 mins at Slindon!
  11. I'll be jumping all the way to Boringstoke next weekend... Hey, when you have no 'wheels' you've got find other ways of off-roading!
  12. Pete, Have you never heard the expression before? It's common among the winch challenge elite...
  13. It's an urban street sport known as 'Parcours' (or Parkour if you're Russian by the look of that video). I practice every day - just wait till you see my new moves!
  14. This one's a real toughie Rob... as you know, I have an Isuzu 2.8 in my 90 and I've had more than my fair share of Tdi's before. Whoever says they think a Tdi is better is simply nuts - they either haven't owned an Isuzu 2.8 or simply don't know what they're talking about. That said, I was in the same dilemma as you - I wanted an Auto. In fact, I care more about having an auto than I do about what engine is in front of it! I actually had a 300Tdi autobox sitting spare as well.. but having looked into the aggravation (and associated cost) of fitting it all together it was simply easier to stick with the tried and tested V8 / Auto combo. On the other hand - have you thought about getting an Isuzu Auto to go with the engine? My wife's 3.1Tdi Auto Trooper goes like stink and drives great.
  15. I have a 90 with Isuzu 2.8TD in. It's a lot better, smoother, faster, more reliable and more powerful than any of the 200Tdi and 300Tdi's I've had... but it's still a diesel and my heart is set on a V8 / Auto. I should have never sold off the project I was building last summer... yes, I know I am a complete tw@t!
  16. Great answers guys - excellent tech advice and info as usual from the Forum. Given what folks have said - awesome drivetrain-munching power, dismal fuel economy and general cost of engines in teh first place, I think it'd just be a lot less hassle sticking with a Rover V8 for now. Now, who's got a nice 4.0 or 4.2 for sale?
  17. That driver deserved what he gotr - complete idiot. What's the point in having a spotter if you're going to completely ignore the directions he/she is giving you. How hard can it be to turn right when directed... what a tw@t. Then, if you notice, when it all starts to go wrong, he gets on the gas(!)
  18. I sturggled to sell the last one I had for £1,500 but it should be worth at least that to anyone. There are so many cheapo Disco 200Tdi's around these days, and everyone seems to think it's a doddle to install them in Defenders.
  19. Love the Oakley's... nice touch. I have an old pair I use for angle grinding too!
  20. Chevy 350 (5.7 litre) V8 engine and (preferably) Auto box install... - Engines from where? Have searched an not found much of use in the UK.. - Are they really any good? I know some Comp Safari boys use them, but are they any good for general usage & off-roading? What about the carbs mis-fuelling on steep inclines? - What Auto options are there and can these be successfully mated to an LR drivetrain (or will a ZF 4spd Auto fit)? - What should I expect to pay for a decent condition engine and where can I buy spare parts?
  21. Paul - Just bought a Rangie... I'll be there!
