  1. Hi mickey ill try and go through it with out making it to long. you can see in my gallery quite well i am running a rad out of a 2.5 na truck no rad cap blowing into series over spill bottle and at the time told not to worry about the one between carbs just blank it of (big mistake) as it was it was not a presuriesed system so didnt move coolant around ran to hot and blew both head gaskets. had them all tested skimend and all back together now.. i dont realy want to go through all that again so have been doing some reserch.. a good move a lot of kit car builders use is to use a seirra high performance rad (ebay shop 130 quid) with two 12" fans and expansion bottle.. this sounded good to me as havnt got thr room for next ad on with the big rad i have now which will be power steering.. the expasion bottle i was thinking of buying has 3 outlets on 1x10mm 1x8mm and out the bottom 1x18mm and was realy hoping some one could tell me the best way to plumb it in. thanks del
  2. hi thanks for the reply but would that then mean the ex tank would have to sit above the rad or will it be ok at the same level thanks...del
  3. hi guys. need some advise please am fitting a alloy rad with twin fans to keep my series 3 sd1 on su cool as had it all wrong 1st time round. with this i will be putting on a alloy expansion bottle with 3 outlets. 1 under preasure cap which is just blow of to ground. 2 second highest point on tank which will be from bleed pipe between carbs to rad teeded to expansion tank. and 3rd one which is 18 mm to bottom rad hose. will this be ok or is there a better way thanks to all in advance del
  4. Thanks for the infoe. with respect to you guys i drive her very kindly after a 3 year rebuild and a lot of hard earnt cash and a hefty fuel bill of course + i havent taken her of road yet. v8 henry is a massive fun family motor that we all love and take care of together cleaning and servicing but not driving (wife cant reach the pedals). i only asked as i was told during the build series box wont last long with a v8. it was the first gearbox i have stripped so probably my fault not doing something quite right so will more than likely have another go strip it and see what the problem is which are she has all forward gears but no neutral and although you can select reverse its like the box is jamned and wont move backwards feels like something is stoping it any ideas would be greatly recived. del
  5. HI people looking for advice on which gearbox i can use in my v8 series 3 1982 s.w.b. rebuilt the whole truck 2 years ago including the gearbox and dropped in an sd1. trouble is gearbox didnt like it . now have to sort it out in time to take to my local show bath & west. i know this has been coverd lots of times before but what can i put in that will hope fully possibly use the same gearbox mountings & couple to the v8 as i have already fabricated engine mounts to keep the box in the original place. if not which box would best mate stright to the v8 im not worried if i have to change prop lenghs or the tunnel just need a box that can take the xtra horses with the least work involved if that is possible. some thing that might cause a worry i went for cutting the crank off and fitted a steve parker bush convertion plate hope some one has the knoledge and thanks in advance. del
  6. hi disco2hse this is a family truck of which we all have family fun in hence seats in the rear. so putting rad in the back is not an option if it was for trialing well that would be a different story. del
  7. THanks to you all for your great coments it has made the 3 year build now seem much shorter. + al thouse smacked knuckles have now been forgotten about when i go for a jolly with that v8 burbling away and turning the youngsters heads in the car park with there 1.1s. but hey i was one once and probably am again now. and thanks to muddy90 & moore 101 for there input as i do have a few problems with cooling. I also only live 20 25 mins from your self moore so perhaps we could meet up sometime or at somerset & wilts trial if you could let me no when and where would be great. Ill add some more photoes of the build when i can and some more recent ones as a few extra,es have been added. chears for now and once again thanks for your kind coments del.
  8. Finally managed to work out how to upload photo's, so here is my finished project, photo's in my gallery, feel free to have a look !
  9. All looks great and what i would like to do this summer.I was going to on my project v8 Henry but new chassis decided not to cut it up just yet. But now having completed it and on the road after 3 years of build which i had. So following what your doing with great interest and keep up the good work. Would love to show a couple of photoes of my build but still cant figer it out.
  10. Not to much to think about then. lets start with the dizzy. when i purchased the engine it had all the electronic bits in it but did not come with the modual funds would not allow &140 so i swapped all the internals from a old p6 dizzy. so no it does not have a small black box on the dizzy. i have it running on p6 points ballast coil which should be the correct one +ballast resistor allthough digital rev counter set to v8 reads all over the place. ill have a look at fuel next time i take it out. im useing a phaset fuel pump with regulater. thanks for all the input electrics are the pain for me i dont understand it enough. Oh and yes ill change the fan stat to 90 and see how it goes chears del
  11. Hi in need of someones experties. i thought it was the coil as it was getting so hot. but i have fitted a new one and a ballast resister but it is still missing when it gets hot. the engine v8 sd1 was rebuilt before i purchased it and it runs sweat untill it gets hot. to hot i think as havent got temp gauge yet as fited 90 dash and it doesnt read corectly yet. have kenlow set at 70 when it comes on it does not go of again untill engine is turned of. the rad is from a 2.5 turbo which should easly be big enough. the coil still gets hot but to be honest i dont no how hot they normaly run at or could i be barking up the wrong tree and it is something totaly different. sorry to waffel on but has taken 3 years to build and am now at witts end as just want to enjoy thanks in advance chears del
  12. thanks for the info guys. have ordered the parts and hope all is ok after i fit them. will post some photoes when i have figerd how to. thanks once again .chears del
  13. HI guys just completed my s3 v8 nut&bolt rebuild. Bl---y AMASING but can anyone help me as i have missed some thing or my mate who done the sparks has but chears for the help mart. the coil is getting realy hot and on a long trip well about 10 miles trip it wont throtel up and it limps back on the drive . then it wont restart untill it has cooled down and then its fine again ready for another short trip. is there any thing i should add to stop this hapening. I have tryed a ballest & non ballest coil but no diference. It is on points and intend to put electronic ingnition in but do not have the exspensive bit yet as funds wont allow after m.o.t ins tax all in one go. ps its a sd1 v8. many thanks in advance chears from aguy who has a permanent silly smile from ear to ear. chears del
  14. I would give adrian flux a bell. Just insured my v8 rebuilt s3 for a very meesly sum and was very surprised. Coverd for green laning to
  15. Hi guys been a long time iv had laptop problems. just a small Q but a big one as once you bought them you have to live with em for a long time. I think i am going for 7x16 moduelers black with 265x75 tyres on my series 3 88" v8. unless someone should have a good reason why it might be too wide and 235 would be better. I think 75s as this will keep the speedo reading correct. Hope i have been told right on that one . Thanks in advance del
