  1. Yes Frank pickles seems to be the one for modified thanks everyone
  2. friend of mine has bought a discovery based trayback it is the real deal and done very well the enthusiast that built it ran out of money and sold it at a great loss i have spent a couple of days earlier this week finishing it off for my mate and getting it mot'd now it is all ready to go he wants to insure it so who is the best company to speak to he wants limited use to and from pay and play sites etc and wants to declare what it is and be fully legal he does not need any fancy extras as it will not be used daily he has so far had a quote from adrian flux and i think this is a little higher than what can be had tia andy
  3. The faults need to be cleared they will not clear themselves just because you have cured the fault
  4. Does a switch off restart sort out the flashing m and s lights if so first sign of a flat battery then it could be the xy switch on gbox should have some stored codes get them read hawkeye will read them nanocom will not read autobox or textbook or autologic but these are usually dealer kit
  5. They can and do fail leaving you stranded, the seal is ok but the retainer gets weak with heat age a cable tie is a good bit of belt and braces if you know what I mean It's not easy to just pop this back on at side of the road you need to remove the upper inlet at minimum to get at it Ask me how I know
  6. My mates bobtailed off road toy is leaning well over to the drivers side it only has a 2 inch lift on and it was not leaning after the last time it was off roaded. It has just started to sag over the past few months while stood So today I poped round and we swapped the springs from left to right presuming that they had just gone a bit saggy on the drivers side having more weight that side more often (landrover fit different springs left to right for this after all) but it is just the same nearly 2" lower at the rear drivers than passenger Hoping someone has some ideas Andy
  7. you tend to find they get a bit funny where they sit most often ie straight ahead push and pull in short sharp movements around this area (replicating wheel shake)and if you find you get a lack of resistance near this middle point it is worn and on its way out
  8. bit far from me i am in bradford check out d2 boys club http://thed2boysclub.myfineforum.org/index.php there is a nanocom/hawkeye locator of members with diagnostic kit not everyone is up to date on the list and you will have to join up to see it but post your requirement and i am sure someone will help it is a discovery 2 specific site not just landrover products like here but it is very usefull and frendly just like here mods not sure if i can post a link delete if not allowed
  9. Nanocom or hawkeye are good where abouts are you I have a nanocom and can plug it in for you there are plenty of others round here that do also if you are too far away
  10. I think the ones like that in the link are built to order price is a guide for spec listed you can have anything you want if you ask for it
  11. If yours is a v8 then you will get basic codes from engine only it's a td5 sorry non of these generic scanners seem to be able to comunicate with them
  12. just to add i know mark at simmonites and he sells them lots of them somtimes strugles to get hold of decent stock but they must be somthing good about them
  13. The crud comes from injector washer failure carbon comes back up and returns to the tank this kills the fuel pump
  14. I really want to get one of these at the moment but as yet they have no support for v8 engine disco 2 do you think that it will even happen now bbs are in with them or not
  15. Slightly off topic but a 1056 or 956 as we used to have should start fine down below minus 10 there is a heater plug in the inlet and this also adds fuel check this is working and they are also well known to need a fast spin an uprated starter motor is available from end of production models this has helped some people and because the battery cables are so long these need to be in tip top condition as does battery but the thing these engines need is cranking speed oh and they sound bloody lovely Andy
  16. all back together and running only time and a drive will tell if i have done any good the pipe to the header tank had blue gasket sealer in it blocking it solid
  17. The only mark of any knd that I have found Opinions please
  18. Well I have found some slight blowing on a cylinder drivers side but not really bad I will post some pics in a bit but all pistons are crudy not steam cleaned washed or rusty it's nearly all back together now and as I found not much wrong and straight edge on the heads showed them as flat so let's hope I can mend this thing LPG vapouriser sounds plausible Also found when blowing things clean the pipe to the rad from exp tank is blocked the little one that squirts in to the exp tank near the cap will have a go at blowing this out again tomorrow but with full compressor power on it it didn't want to clear Andy
  19. passenger side head is now off and every thing looks fine no washed or steam cleaned piston no faliure points on gasket so hope to find a problem with the drivers side strugling a bit with the bolts on this one but didnt try long as it got dark
  20. just passed morrisons on way to rescue swmbo 69.9 today was 65.9 aover christmas period up from 59.9 only in november halifax west yorkshire
  21. got to go she just rung up said heaters gone cold and she not far from home so i told her to stop she said she checked water before she set off i went to her aid only this morning to bleed it up so its getting much worse andy
  22. thanks for the fast responce fridge most of what i have been reading today has been posted by yourself and a few others with an equaly large knowledge of the rover v8 and i was quite hoping you would reply as i very much trust what you say from reading other posts what are the other things to investigate first then please as i want this issue either resolved or passed on to some one else as i just need a motor i can trust so that swimbo can get to work and back without worry of breaking down she is pretty good and will check oil and water but if the water looks good in exp tank then what more can she do i cant expect her to bleed it up like i have to every time it does this (can I?) i have thought my problems have been caused by leaking at the joint the lpg takes its supply from but i am begining to think this is only leaking due to the over presurisation of the system oh by the way just in case it helps its the 4.0 not 4.6(were they export only for d2?) 145k on the clock no misfire (not since new leads 15k ago any how)and runs really quite well for its miles did cam and timing chain 12k ago was slightly warn but not as bad as i would have expected
  23. right spent most of the day researching liner slip as my disco has started to consume water and for the first time i have noticed bubbles coming back to the expantion tank now as much as i like the car if it has slipped liner(s) then top hat block is not an option as it is in my opinion not economicaly viable for a car of this age and mileage i have ordered a top end gasket set from real steel and that will be with me soon but before it gets here and i start to rip it in bits is they any way of telling that i have a liner problem rather than head gasket faliure before i pull it in bits some of my reading on here sugests that a compression test will be ok for liner slip and show up head gasket fault but other reading suggests it may not now i have been pulling my hair out about this and also upset a friend of mine who has v8 disco in bits at the moment for a top end rebuild(also consuming water after his wife boiled it ) who thought he would have a gasket faliure as he thought this only happened to 4.6s the other strange thing with mine is that while it does loose water the expantion tank level does not drop and the first you know is when the heater goes cold followed shortly by temp guage going from middle straight to top and it does this very fast not a slow build up like fast as if you shorted the sensor to earth fast pop the bonnet and exp tank still full top hose bleed screw undone and steam and bubbles come out and exp tank level drops after all presure released usaly takes about 3-4 liters to get level back right and bled up any help greatly recived andy
  24. The 3 amigos is probably a wheel sensor most common cause and the reason for sensor may well be wheel bearing this could also be the rumble get the codes read and go from there
