Reb, this is great news - before I got attacking my new X member (still to be purchased at £42) with an angle grinder, I reckon your method has got to be worth a shot. B) What's the worst thing that can happen ....... I will probably get the bits and have a go early Jun - got some other more pressing issues to sort first - see the 'Want Ads' for a new power steering pump. When I do it, I will make sure I get good shots of the whole process for posting on here.

Now there's a bright idea - after-all, B) its not much more than that really. I guess looking at it, with a bit of artistic welding license, could be done.

BigBlue - thanks for the offer, but I reckon by the time I have driven down and back, probably cheaper to buy a new one, at £42. However, having seen the nightmare about to ensue, I may have a go at repairing the repair.... Thanks for all the help. I'll have a chat with my welder and see if the cut in two/three option is a goer. I reckon in its current state its gonna fail the MOT, but I've got until July to get it sorted. Homba - I reckon I'll lift the floor panels anyway (it is a CSW). I could do with a look underneath, and may help matters on their way. Cheers. So basically, cut the new one in three - lift the rear floor panels, slot in place, weld back together and bolt in place...sounds easy..... Now then, about this Microcat......

Me again, Here's a picture of my badly rusted and poorly repaired rear body crossmember (if that's what it is called..?). It's the same all the way across, and someone has tried to plate it previously (badly) and the weld is giving way. I have tried looking for one of these online, 24/7 spares etc, but no luck. Am I destined to trawl the scrappies for a part Is this an unbolt and bolt in part? There are no details in the Haynes book of lies......it looks as if it is a bolt on item, but hoped maybe you guys who know these babies well could provide some enlightenment. If so, anyone got one in reasonable condition they'd be willing to send, or I can collect within reasonable distance, I'm at Carterton, Oxfordshire? Drop me a line, with a price. Glad you like the truck. I have been working hard to try and get it all sorted. Had the windscreen wiper motor off yesterday and replaced - now have working wipers - bit of a bonus in our climate! Next step is to fix the fog light. The indicator light works on the dash, but no light at the back. Checked the bulb - all OK, so must be a wiring fault somewhere. I'll strip down the fitting and check the connections, see what's occurring. B) New footwells arrived from YRM too - be looking to get them welded in, in the next few weeks. It's like sitting with your feet in a collander at the moment. Doesn't bother me too, much, but just worried someone might strain something

Hi everyone, After having my new truck for nearly a week, I have been getting around to fixings some of the niggly faults. One thing I don't know how to fix is the fact that when I go round a left hand bend, I am loosing fuel out the filler cap. Is this a common fault? Is it just a carp fitting cap? Is there a funnel device I can fit into the filler neck? More worried about bikers slipping on the fuel rather than loosing it - but I would rather not throw fuel away. Don't assume I haven't thought about not filling the tank as much - this is the obvious answer, but not the best solution Cheers for any help.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I am going to run the motor on for a bit - well at least until it breaks!! Really got in amongst it over the weekend, and have ordered 2 footwells from http://www.yrm-metal-solutions.com/ Ronnie Maughan was very helpful, after ordering 1 for the offside, I put a late request in for the near side too and he has combined the postage! Nice chap! Found a few horros and niggles. I am going to have to patch a bit of the bulkhead, not too much of a drama, was thinking about putting in some chequer plate deco! The windscreen wipers have jst packed in, and the power steering pump is whaling like a banshee. So I reckon I have a few busy weekends ahead. Oh, did I mention the rear body crossmember needs replacing.... With regards the bonnet - didn't know they were in demand, so there's one thing I can sell to recoup some loses!! Hi everyone, Another newbie here to pick you brains. Saying I'm a newbie, I have worked on LRs in various guises for several years for mates etc, but now I have one of my own. Here's a picture of my new truck: B) I paid over the odds (I think), in a bout of eBay madness... I guess the paint-job went a long way to sell it, along with the new roof rack and spots I have just got right in amongst the thing and found a few horrors I didn't find when I first looked, but also some nice surprises too. New gearbox and transfer box, new water pump, new master cylinder, new front cross-member. Most of underneath looks good. The bulkhead in the drivers footwell is looking a bit shabby and will need cutting out and plating (any advise welcomed - missed that on first inspection - DOH! ). There are few spots of electrolisis here and there, but they will be rubbed, scrubbed and sealed. The rear 3rd top cross member has been repaired and plated and could probably do with replacing (again any advice welcomed). I have removed the wheel from the bonnet and will remove the bolts and cover the holes with chequer plate - watch out in the want ads! Really looking forward to many years of tinkering and fetling. Maybe a Disco conversion in the future ( I assume there's plenty of material on here about that..? 300 vs 200...? ) Thanks for looking, see ya in da mud soon! Cheers for now, CJ
