  1. I use a product called Wintron xc40 ,I make my own biodiesel and add this during the winter months ,I've never had a problem with fuel freezing.
  2. the head gasket recently blew on my 1991 defender 200tdi ,I decided to do the job properly and have the head skimmed and replace the head bolts, tonight i got the head back on but some of the bolts that came out are 12 x 125mm not 12 x 140mm as delivered, has anyone come across this problem before ?,if so where can i get the correct bolts from
  3. Ive just done my defender 90 with cavity wax inside the chassis, bulkhead, rear crossmember and all door pillars, then used an underbody coating for the outside of the chassis,i got all the stuff from Wayside adhesives and cant praise their products enough,i was going to use anti stonechip, but if it gets scratched off when green laneing then water would get in behind it,with the under body coating you can just apply more over the top, this stuff sticks really well to the chassis and gives a tough protective finish, and mud comes off with a hose pipe,i used 6 x 1 ltr cans to do my chassis. http://www.waysideadhesives.com/index.php
  4. french chalk ,unless i need to really accurate then a silver sharpie pen.
  5. I use a mig welding forum quite a lot ,and lots of the guys on there recommend "clarke" welders from machine mart,I've got a clarke 120e MK2 ,and its never let me down and produces good welds, unlike some stuff from Machine Mart their welders are good, whatever you decide to buy ,check the ampage goes low enough for car restoration ,most go down to 30a but some go even lower ,mine goes down to 30a, i recently re-built my mates Disco inner wings ,and in places i wish it went down to 20a as the metal was a bit thin,it all came good in the end though coz it passed the mot. IMHO avoid gasless mig welders ,they dont give quality welds, the welds tend to be pourous, with a mig you might want to sort out a larger bottle of gas ,the small argon mix bottles from M M only last for about 20 mins ( if your lucky),most big companys BOC ,Air products etc will only rent you a bottle and you have to be on contract, some frieldly pub land lords might let you have a CO2 bottle then all you need is regulator from a welding suppliers.
  6. Its a 200tdi with the Railco bush ,sorry i forgot to mention that ,thanks for the quick reply Retroanaconda.
  7. I'm going to replace both front swivels shortly with new teflon ones, after reading several manuals and topics on various forums on how best to do it,I'm now a bit confused about setting the swivel pre load, below is what i've found, and i can't find out if these are with the large swivel seal fitted or not ,anybody got any help please. haynes manual 3.6 - 4.5 kg Les Henson's topic (from here) 5.5 - 7.3kg topic off "Landy Zone" 12 - 14 lbs DVD "A 4 x 4 is born" 2.5 -3 lbs
  8. I did the same thing your doing ,speedo drive's a simple job to change ,best way is to remove the centre seat and the panel underneath it ,the speedo drive is held in by a forked plate and the plates retained by a 6mm nut (10mm head),I run BFG mt's ,i only got mt's because they were a steal on eBlag ,if i had to replace them i'd get A/T's ,but it all depends on what you use use your truck for.
  9. I need some advise on what the best treatments are for protecting the exterior of a chassis ,I came across the products below and wondered if anyone has used them ? ,which one would be best suited to protect the chassis against further rust/corrosion http://www.waysideadhesives.com/Masterguard-UBC-1ltr--79_prod.php http://www.waysideadhesives.com/Masterguard-Stonechip-1ltr--81_prod.php

  12. I've bee using the black jerry cans from anchor supplies for years,i clean them out once a year with milton fluid,i also have a small 10 litre container which is white plastic, this soon gets mould in it if water's left in for more than a couple of weeks,in my opinion the best ones to use are the black ones from anchor. http://www.anchorsupplies.com/jerrycans.htm
