  1. Thanks Fridge Freezer, Not being a mechanic though ,and if I manage to obtain a used one on E-bay how do I fit it? Would a garage fit it for me? Had a quick look on E-bay and there are various versions so I probably need to see what I already have so I don't get the wrong one, has any one got easy to follw instructions? Thanks Simon
  2. Here's hoping someone can help me out, The window wiper linkage on my 2004 Freelander has broken , been checked out by my local garage, but the spare part is out of stock at Landrover without a date for re-stocking. My MOT is due in April so the garage suggested that I obtain a used part but not being in the car business I do not know where to start this search. I live near Manchester so if anyone out there can direct me to a local breaker or someone who can supply me with a used window wiper linkage I would be much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation Simon
  3. Folk, I have an 04 5 door Freelander and I can't unlock the tailgate, I have checked the fuse and that looks fine though the internal switch doesn't do anything. I have searched on the forum and one method to open the tailgate is to disconnect the battery which I assume lowers the window but what do I do next? I'll check the wiring to the lock mechanism but is the wiring behind the driver or passenger side in the boot space? I assume the window will remain down until I get power to the mechanism, so I can drive the car is there a way to get the window partly up while I find out the problem? I'm not car mechanic minded at all but I'm loathe to take it to the nearest Landrover dealer if I can sort the problem using common sense, any help would be appreciated Thanks Simon
  4. Thanks tim-Roberts, most helpful.
  5. Hi folk, Currently have an 04 Diesel Freelander with 105k on clock with BMW engine. All doing fine except for age related issues such as rear windows not working, and recently passed MOT, etc. I only use it at weekends so don't mount up many miles, at most 3,000 a year but useful when wife takes it to horsey stuff. All the press and comments on this forum suggested that newer versions are not reliable, engine problems, etc. have these improved since Landrover was taken over and therefore I shouldn't have any issues in buying a newish model , say 4 years old? Or should I just run mine until it becomes too expensive to repair as I appreciate the engine should be fine for a while yet, Any experience of the newer models would be appreciated, Thanks Simon
  6. Fridgefreezer, Thanks for the guidance, my car is an 04 plate but has the square handles not the solid rounded ones as shown so I take it ot be the 'new' style. They were in my old 98 car so I recognise exactly what you are saying. I have found a screw in the door pull but no others yet, I am assuming the 2 large screws are somehow encased in the moulded 'square' handle but I don't know how to get this apart without breaking it! From your diagram I assume the manual doesn't show the square handled version. I may have to contact the dealer for help! Thanks anyway Simon
  7. Thanks Fridge Freezer , had a look and can't find any screws at all! May need to find a tech manual to follow.
  8. Common problem with rear passenger window no longer working but I can't find any screws, etc to undo the inside panel to check what the problem is. Made a grinding noise when raising the window and stopped. Thanks S
  9. Hi there, Just for information for comparison to your price limit. I have recently sold a 1998 2.0l for £600 - 93000 miles and bought a 2004 TD4 for £4,000 with a similar mileage. Everyone says if possible buy the TD4 with the BMW engine but I didn't have any problem with the 1998 Rover engine, jus the windows, locking and heater. I'm no motor expert but I think there are a great car, plenty of space , ideal for horsey folk and I'm sure some mechanics out there can give you a lot more specific answers. Happy motoring
  10. Sorry to ask such a simple question but are all freelanders fixed 4 wheel drive? Question was raIsed at my MOT regarding the brake tests. I was under the impression that they were but a doubt has krept in. 04 plate model. Thanks Simon
  11. Moring folk, hope soemone can give me some advice /help. My front passenger door appears to be super-locked, the fob does not release it nor can I unlockit using the inside catch. The buton does not come upabove the panel soI can't use that to assist and obviously Ican't take the door panel off as the seat is in the way for a couple of the screws. Has anyone got suggestions on how I can release it, it is an old car 1998, and the central locking has been iffy for a while. Thanks Simon
  12. Hi there, This might be a silly question but has anyone done or looked into converting the electric windows (especially the passenger front) to manual similar tothe ones in the rear seats? I notice a lot of complaints regarding the electric window cables / regulator and I have replaced one regulator and 2 sets of cables previously. My latest attempt has failed as I believe the window is too tight in the runners for the regulator to work properly so i have disabled the regulator and left the window up. Thanks Simon
  13. Help! The passengerside window failed so I took the door panel off and found a snapped cable. I ordered a replacement cable kit and duly fitted it, all quite simple though fiddly. Problem is that once fitted back in the door I can't raise the glass, incidently I tried the mechanism without the glass and it worked OK. Is there an automatic stop on raising the window as it is quite stiff and requires some effort manually to get it up to the top and if so how can I release the stiffness / over ride the stop? Is the regulator the problem and not the cable system? Any help or experience very much appreciated
  14. All, My problem is an intermittent one and therefore I need to isolate potential problems before I take it into Land Rover to be assessed. I have an S reg 2.0L diesel Freelander which has been running well until recently. Occasionally (probably once a week now) when I turn the ignition key to bring up the lights - coil heating, SRS, etc, the lights do not come on. Sometimes if I twiddle the key they appear and recently some one suggested I push the car backwards a few feet and try again, this also works. Also it does not matter whether the car has been running or not, the problem just happens, my worry is that the problem will get worse and also happen when I'm driving and therefore the car will stop. Any suggesions on what I can test to isolate this problem would be appreciated but bear in mind that I'm not a mechanic so lay speak please, Thanks
