  1. Hi, Bear in mind for a road going car the MOT is changing, so any light on the dash will fail. If you remove one airbag this will show as a fault and put the light on. You can get round this by fitting a resistance across the plug (don't know size ) which you can probably get from a boy racer site. Tim
  2. Hi, Not to put you off a disco, but my auto averages 22mpg. Best ever was 28 on motorway and 25 on a holiday to Wales. I love my Disco but its a fuel magnet. It also has the performance of a dead snail, but it goes anywhere and is lovely drive, especially on the motorway. After speaking to friends with manual boxes, they get much better consumption and performance. Tim
  3. Hi all. Forgive my ignorance if this has been asked many times before. I have a 300 tdi auto for my sins, and I know that number 4 injector is different to all the rest due to the trigger wire for the EDC, but are the rest the same as manual injectors? Help would be greatly appreciated on this subject. Tim

    Alarm

Hi, Which model have you got? Is it factory fit alarm? Also check connector to sounder as this springs to mind as the only way it can go off whilst driving, Tim
  5. Hi, What is the ambient temperature like to be able to start without glowplugs? You have not said what transmission you have. Automatics have electronic diesel control and turbo pressure is computer controlled. My auto pulls awful until it starts to warm through, and when glowplugs are failing is even worse and smokes terrible. Also if it is auto then you need to remap the ecu to change fueling. Tim
  6. Hi If turbo does not work at optimum you have to use more right foot to achieve performance, so fuel consumption will be hammered. Those figures sound like my missis round town trying to race GTI's.
  7. Hi I have a 96 300tdi Auto. Best achieved consumption 28mpg. Good run 25 mpg, average 22 mpg with around town but towing 1800 kg caravan with six people I get 20mpg. These figures are not hanging about as my biggest complaint is lack of performance. My friend with similar vehicle gets about 3 mpg more than me so these are probably worst case figures. I still get better than a friend with similar age Shogun auto so I'm happy
  8. Have you tried soldering the loose joint in the ECU. Did this to mine and they now work perfectly and my kids love me. Got the instructions from this forum quite a few months ago but can't remember link. Tim
  9. My Disco did this when I first bought it. When loaded with family at 60 it did its own thing. Checked tyre pressures, inflated osr to correct pressure, problem gone. Only comes back if tyre pressures are quite different across axle and loaded.
  10. How about the simple basics of wheel alignment or tracking. Take it to your local tyre place and get it checked. Is the wear evenly worn across the tyre or has it took the edges off? If it is more edge wear tracking should sort this out.
  11. Hi. With regard to your centre diff and brake testing if you drive one axle then that will turn something backwards. This will either be the other axle or the gearbox. Driving the other axle will pull the vehicle out of the rollers, possibly causing damage to the surroundings or bystanders. Driving a gearbox in reverse if worn can cause damage. Putting the transfer box in neutral means that this is the only thing turning which should be safer. Bear in mind that as the engine needs to be running to brake test, if it is not in neutral on TXB you are driving the back of the box bacwards and the front forwards. Due to the complexity of so many different vehicles controls the Ministry say do not roller test. Personally I would not fancy roller testing my Disco, if it goes wrong two ton of metal is a lot to stop. I have had enough problems over the years with various two wheel drives.
  12. Hi, Last year had a similar fault with mine. It went past the stop at the bottom and would not go up. Made lots of noise but no movement. Current fix is block of wood in bottom of door as stop until mechanism fails. So far had to replace both front mechanisms due to bending of weak metal. If motor runs one way then it should run the other as it only reverses polarity so switch is more likely cause, or sticking mechanism.
  13. Repairing an old master cylinder is poor economy. All you are doing is putting new seals into a worn bore. This will wear the new seals much quicker, and could fail much easier. Two tton of disco with no brakes is not something I would like to meet. I would suggest bite the bullet and fit new. With regard to your original question, if they were the same bore they would be the same part number.
