  1. Thanks for that, however i have managed to locate the holy grail A working 200 series heater unit entire beast and it works!!
  2. Hi all, this may be a blond Q,but here goes ......... I have tried, with no luck, to find a replacement for my fudged heater in my 200 series Disco and now the cold season is approaching and the possibility of misted up windows!. Would it be at all feasible to put a 300 series heater in instead? What problems would you envisage ie lining up,wiring etc? Thanks in advance and be gentle!
  3. PS is there a guide on here for the dreaded procedure of removing the dash etc?
  4. Thanks for the replies guys. No the blower does not work at all dead as a dodo! There is power to the motor, but the heater just does nothing! We believe that the vehicle has just stood through last winter, so the motor is probably rusted up as you said. Ho-hum dash out it is then!
  5. Hi all, As the title suggests,my heater seems to be broken? The vehicle is a 1991 V8 without air-con. There is a power feed going into the motor and the garage has quoted £500 to do a heater blower replacement as a 7 hour job? We are going to undertake the job ourselves as we understand it is time consuming rather than to technical? Any advise/tips would be gratefully accepted! Thanks in advance Jen.
  6. Hi and thanks to all above for your replies and input,i spoke to chappie with the bonnet im buying and he apologises for being vague yesterday, had a bad day etc etc. The new bonnet has hidden hinges, hooray!! So it is winging its way to me as we speak!!
  7. Well now im really confused! The bonnet im interested in is on an E reg 1988 EFI Rangie, exactly the same model and year and colour as mine, but the bloke tells me he can see the hinges, i asked him if he meant on top of the bonnet and "yes" he says? So now im not sure as to whether my ropey replaced bonnet is correct(with hidden hinges)or not????? AAAaagh!
  8. Hi i have a 1988 E Reg 3.5 Range Rover, it has had the bonnet replaced at sometime and it is a bit ropey. Im in the process of replacing it. Now the one that is on at the present is a "hidden hinge" one and im not sure if it is correct, as the fit isnt tremendous, but maybe due to the ropiness. Can you fit either "hidden" or "visible" type hinges or not,is the bonnet or scuttle different between the two types?? I have lined up a bonnet in the correct colour and in good condition, but it is a "visible hinge" one! Cheers.
  9. Hi all, Stopped snowing long enough to be tempted outside(wimp )! Blokes are marvelous things aren't they, especially when they carry out Landy repairs that cost nothing, yes Nothing! Anyway enough praise or he'll get bigheaded. Seems that the dodgy/intermittent/burning smell/etc etc were all down to a dodgy connection. Wires had worked loose and connector full of gunk & corosion. The two halves of the old connector are now "welded" together with melted plastic, hence the smell. New connector block & copious amounts of insulating tape later and a bodge to be proud of. Still im very lucky that the 90 didnt go up in smoke as the heater would burst into life ,if i had not turned it off when it failed, (soon remembered when the smell started!)
  10. Hi all, thanks for the prompt replies, looks like another weekend under the bonnet then!!
  11. Hi all, I have had a rather annoying problem with my in car heat (or lack of)in my 1996 90csw. The problem started approx three weeks ago, with the in car heater fan only working intermittently, ie not working for miles then suddenly cutting in, then it would work ok for a few days and then the burning smell started, which seemed to come from the area of the heater box under the bonnet on the nearside. Now the heater is not working at all. Any ideas where to start with the diagnosis of what is the most likely failed component? Many thanks Jen.
  12. What exactly are you looking for? As im replacing my 300 series defender s/wheel at the weekend!
  13. Hi Ive always found that "bull bars" cause more damage to the vehicle that they are supposed to be protecting. I also had one on my old 200tdi disco and as it was one that had a bar that went below the bumper it used to get snagged when off roading and was a liability, and an extra item that needed straightening up after a trip off road! If you just want something to put extra lights on, i would personally go for a "simbar" from somewhere like craddocks and some seperate light covers. Also the really heavy agricultural type bars weigh a ton and will hammer your fuel consumption even more!
  14. I know there is one on the A542 Abbey road, on the other side of the river, head as if you are going towards the Horseshoe pass and it's on the right hand side of the road. HTHs?
  15. Called in at my local landy place today (independant, of course) and purchased some nice shiny new nuts, bolts and washers as i have decided to go down the grinder etc route!
