  1. Yes thats an 8200. There is quite a bit of info on them, see my other post.. click I think they are great winches easy to mod, here is mine Oh and to get the brake drum off the main shaft its reverse threaded
  2. ok mildly interested in what you mean by "the front end" but not wanting to go off topic from the original question..
  3. where you located (fill in your profile)? If on the south coast try Solent bearings http://www.solent-bearings.co.uk/ when i last look at mcgillmotorsports they didnt do the bigger size ends. I use pos25 this has a m24 thread with a 2mm pitch for my aframe joint. The thing about standard rod ends is they don't last long before there is some play in the joint and starts clonking... but least its a lot easier to change than the standard lr joint hope this helps
  4. Hi, Interesting have been kind of toying doing this, the adapter to join the motors together is simple enough... I see you have milled in some key ways into the end of motor one, so i guess you turned down the splines on motor two and then added some key ways there. real good job how does it run?
  5. yep thats what it did say... but if you read it now and the download form has also been changed.. which was kind of the point of my post why change it?
  6. True which why i cant afford fawk all at the moment... and why dont you enter?... oh i forgot in what.... Thanks, i will ping them a quick email to check an awdc membership will do the job.
  7. Does any know why HBLRO all of sudden want need you to become a full member (@28quid) just to do this one event? So what was going to cost me 65 for me to enter will now cost £111... for a one day event.... wouldn't so much if they did more than one challenge event a year
  8. Thanks andy... now to hunt down some bits
  9. just my thoughts... TDS and Bowrope for now. then when you get keen get an 8274 or MM typeR to go on the front and put the TDS on the rear...
  10. Hi every body.. got a poor mans spec 96 300tdi, and do a lot of towing. As its the base spec it does not have the head light leveling switch or mounts. So my question.. would it be an easy(ish) job to add this on if switch and mounts are obtained? If i guess the loom is in place as standard. Has anybody done this? thanks for any input..
  11. This looks like fun... Just had a quick skim through the info so might have miss it but, idea of cost per event and complete series? thanks
  12. Nige, word press or Drupal (which i like to use) is the way to go... get a tame code monkey to knock you up a nice looking skin then you just add/managed the content, plus almost every feature could want can be added as an already written plugin. simples
  13. I can see why Walters mining want to shut the byway. Having help run and organize two events on the site the the byway is a complete nightmare. People seem to come and use the site as they please. In the two events i have done which is just two weekends in two years i have seen groups of moto cross bikes (even camping on the site), quad bikes, kids on scooters and lots of 4x4's all no where near the byway. Even one year some guy in a caged 90 doing "BWM go home" Monty Python style in paint on the rocks guess there is no way of stopping all this but block the access... and people who legally use the byway (from what i have seen that cant be many) will lose out.
  14. Was trawling the web looking at online shops in the US and came across these.. thought they would be a perfect solution for the lower radius and trailing links when using poly type bushes.. bit of grease now and then would(might) stop the bush insert some times welding its self to the bolt making them a pain to change in the field. Is this a good idea? any one know a supplier in this country who would do land rover size?
  15. In my small limited research into this subject this i found this <click> makes an interesting read
  16. I will hopefully be there as well with a trailer full of tat got to try and pay for the new truck some how....
  17. Nige, Thats a nice clean look to the front end. Out of interest how do u get thos nice constant bends in your 20mm bar, Have you made a former and use a press? or do you heat and beat? Paul
  18. I think the bolt size is a M16 cant remember what the thread pitch is... (but would be best to go and messure a wheel stud for your self ) But to recap on what people have said... with out trying to sound like i am putting your idea down.. I know some one who made some 30(mm) spacers but aways had problems with them coming undone.. not so much of an issues if only being used offroad. But the last thing you want on the road is to be over taken by your own wheel
  19. I made my own damper relocation bracket once its a great mod to do.. Thats odd you don't have the mounts the other side as these are the holes for where the steering box would be if you have a left hand drive... every 90 110 disco i have owed and worked on has these steering box mounting holes on both sides of the chassis.. maybe some one has repaired the chassis at some point.. but as said i would just drill some new holes through the chassis for the bracket.
  20. PB if it carries on prob not cheep enough but after this engine work it will still be a sub 500 quid motor. all for do it once do it right approach.. esp due to the trans European towing mileage it will see next summer Thys I had heard that about the 300 heads thanks for the... "heads up" .. don't fancy getting a new one just yet tho...
  21. yep fine fact all the splined motors i have seem to fit.. bowmotors and superwinch. Also i would think all warn 12 volt motors will also fit, like an XP but a bit more expensive than the above options
  22. I use a series 9 on the back of my challenge truck. the number in your case "12" is the pull rating (12000 pounds) the warn series winches are all the same size just the gearing changes with the pull rating. Its a good winch mine was also a 24 volt on but i have replaced it with a bowmotor it pulls a bit faster than an ep9 but holds over 120 foot of 12mm rope, and with some small mods they can be made a bit more water resistant. only down side it is wide just too wide for the chassis rails on a land rover. Hope this helps and you need any pointers on servicing it give me a shout.
  23. thanks for the replies.. nope your right not a big job, and just spoken to my local machine shop and they can skim and pressure test the the head for me (as i was thinking about just replacing the gasket).
