  1. Future bleeding tip; Unbolt the slave cylinder from the bell housing so the rod is fully extended(crack the bleed nipple first and close it finger tight) Once off open the bleed nipple and simply let the fluid gravity feed through (keep reservoir topped up)and you will get 100% of the air out. When you close the bleed nipple don't top up the reservoir again until after you have put the slave cylinder back on as whilst you put it on it will push the rod and then fluid back into the reservoir. If you have fitted a new master cylinder you may need to hold the pedal down for a minuit to get the fluid flowing through the master cylinder.
  2. very simple to do so don't be afraid to try.
  3. Does this still apply to 05 Defenders? thought it was only early TD5's?
  4. Hi Western just quoting from LR hand books From Defender owners hand book second edition 2003; IMPORTANT INFORMATION Always observe the following precautions *The MAXIMUM load for approved roof rack systems is 75 kg for normal road use and 30kg off-road. Calculation of the maximum load must include the weight of the roof rack. The 50kg I previously quoted was from memory and probably from my Discovery 2 with calculation to also include the roof rack. I assume these figures are just arse covering because they would make a roof rack basically useless if you followed them to the letter.
  5. Yes Land Rover do one in thier budget version, I used to have 1 with a rear door spare wheel mount bolted through it to hold the spare. Specified weight is a problem with any roof rack because I think the LR recommendation from memory is 50kg max on the roof for stability reasons which probably isn't much more than the spare wheel on its own so in reality you need to ignore the recommended max weight to make any use of a roof rack?????????
  6. Bl--dy h-ll, talk about rip off there is no way that price can be justified. Shame on Land Rover that is a blatant customer rip off. If they rip their customers off with something this simple what chance have we with more technical parts? On the bright side you are much better off not fitting the aluminium knobs, if you do you will regret it in winter as they get freezing cold.
  7. If your current gear is ok and you can't drill it just grease it instead, when I stripped mine out of my old 200tdi at 92,000 to check it I found it was greased from new and was near perfect with no wear. I assume this is how landrover must have eliminated the problem on later 200's after it had come to light.
  8. Yes thanks for that Andy,I'll have a look for mine tomorrow. Kev
  9. Never had one come loose on my td5 Descovery or Defender in 7 years with annual oil changes ,I only ever hand tighten them but do use genuine LR. Kevan
  10. Yes how could the slave cylinder cause the clutch to slip? not operate yes but how does it affect the pressure applied by the pressure plate or do you mean it was leaking fluid onto the clutch? Where is the Fuel reg located, directly above the bell housing? can the diesel be seen leaking externally or only when you remove the gearbox?
  11. As stated 235/85 x 16 are now the standard UK equivalent, I have also recently fitted and am very pleased with a set of General Grabber AT2 all terrains but in the wider 265/75 x 16 (another genuine Land Rover size option)these are very quiet on the road for an all terrain. These are also a good price package if you want to stick with the 7.50 x 16 option with the bennefit of being fitted to genuine military spec Wolf Rims which are arguably the best land rover wheel available.(think these are the tubed version) http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/SPECIAL_OFFERS/Defender/750R16_Michelin_XZL_Tyre_fitted_and_balanced_on_Wolf_Rim_-_new_take_off.html
  12. Another thank you for that info. Ralph, Very handy that.
  13. Plus you may find insurance cover will be more exspensive on the Q plate, some companies may not even entertain insuring it! There are plenty more out there!
  14. I've just fitted AT2 265/75 16's to my TD5 Double Cab and they certainly get my vote on tarmac very quiet smooth with no noticable drag, very pleased. I can't comment on their OR abillity yet.
  15. Yes sounds like a dead short to earth and the first place to be looking is the repair to the loom at the rear without any doubt, in fact if I was a gambling man the rear repair would be a dead cert aswell as a dead short. As stated fitting bigger fuses is a total no no! I hope the 20amp fuse blew straight away because if it didnt you may have melted the full length of the shorting wire damaging others in the loom at the same time.
  16. Well done Wex, Learning and now teaching too , exactly how good forums should be. Nice 1
  17. Thanks for sharing, like mentioned your old chassis looks like a good one!
  18. I think you should now clean out the entire fuel system remove the tank and blow out all pipes, a good clean out of the fuel tank will do no harm and will eliminate contaminated fuel / fuel line blockage. Kevan
  19. Les sounds Like Britpart might have tapped the wrong thread into thier flywheels then as it doesn't make sense to supply 99% of the parts and then leave your customer unable to finnish the job without a visit to the ironmongers, like you said that would be very frustrating. Kevan
  20. ''However - the DMF flywheel has 6-studs and 13mm m8 nuts for attaching the clutch cover, but the solid flywheel doesn't - it has 6x20mmxM8 coarse thread bolts to do the same thing, so you will need to buy them seperateley'' Should you not use the studs out of the DMF flywheel? Kevan
  21. Just use self tappers round the edge of the frame? althoutgh aluminium trim surrounds always make a more proffesional finish. Whatever you use don't forget to use a drill stop whatevr you do as the outer skin is very easily punctured / damaged.
  22. I've never seen a dual mass flywheel, are they put together with M8 nuts? what size nuts is the clutch plate held on with?
  23. My 200tdi 90 didn't have this so I assume as you stated that it is purely an option for fitting the spare wheel internally and so removeable.
  24. Hi all I changed my cluych slave cylinder and as it had been leaking into the bell housing I unsrewed the bottom bung to let any excess fluid out, when I removed the bung a M8 plain steel nut came out of the bell housing. Any ideas? I don't want to remove the gearbox unless there is an impending disaster about to happen? Thanks in advance
  25. ''not stricly true, there are 2 versions of the XD/Wolf wheels'' ah ha! didn't know that, glad I do now. thank you
