  1. Thanks dailysleaze. What i remember was that the pump was dry and that the only drips came from between the housing and timingbelt housing. Buit I/they will check it again before the start taking off the pump (and change the timingbelt etc at the same time). Bought the kit, wil arrive in the next couple of days. And will you all know what the exact problem was in a couple of months.
  2. Thanks Snagger, in two months i'll be back in Swaziland and will ask the mechanic to check again where the leak comes from before taking off the pump. From underneath i can see that the drips are coming from between the pump and timing belt casing. The three bolts are tight and they checked the pipe unions but still .... Will let you know what the problem is in a couple of months.
  3. thanks guys for the reply. Dailysleaze: thanks for the diagram, very helpfull! And bought the repairset through e-bay, many thanks! Snagger: It's difficult to see where the leak comes from, but 99% sure that it is between the pump housing and the timingbelt housing (when the engine is running). Changed the timingbelt 25.000 miles ago (me, the monkey, it's Africa so don't trust that many so called mechanics). The bush mechanic in Swaziland (Portugese guy) has a lot of experience on Landys and worked on dieselpumps before. So fingers crossed. And still a newbie after 8 years on the forum?
  4. Read some of the problems leaking diesel pump but it still doesn't fit in my problem: the engine is from a disco and does very well for the last 170.000 miles in my 110. But for the last couple of months the pump is leaking diesel between the pump housing and the cambelt housing. Doesn't look that it is leaking through the belthousing, no drips through the bottom hole. The car is at the moment in Swaziland and a workshop told me that they can fix the problem by removing the pump and fit a new seal on the drive shaft. So far so good but it's a problem to find the spare parts. At the moment in Europe so plan is to order the parts, seal and seal kit through e-bay, interspares2000. The parts numbers give me a headache. Anyone know if they are correct so that I bring the right Bosch parts back to Africa? Bosch diesel fuel pump seal nr. 1 460 283 312 and Bosch diesel fuel pump seal kit nr. 1 467 010 059. I hope anyone is familiar with these Bosch part numbers. Or maybe someone will tell me that the leak is a different problem. Thanks for any help.
  5. Thanks guys for all the replies. Was off the line for a while. Good to know HPLP that you are using he same oil. If they use Rimula oil it's always the 15/40 for cars and not the truck type. Will use it again in the future (if I can get hold of it). Was in Nigeria two years ago with my Landy and everybody is changing the engine oil after 3000 miles, quality of the diesel is very bad (oil exporting country?!?). In South Africa is the diesel quality much better (soutie) and I will always go for the 50ppm sulphur but further north it's the dirty diesel, sometimes 50ppm available (Nairobi-Kenya). I change the diesel filter every 10.000 km and the timing belt every 50.000 km. Overdone? maybe but it gives me a peaceful mind, same with changing the engine oil every 5 to 6.000 km's.
  6. Thanks guys for tbe replies. The engine is now almost 25 years old, second owner and did 250.000 km, in total 450.000 km. Try to change the oil and filter every 5.000 km. Except for the valve stems it's still a very reliable engine, never let me down through Africa. That's the reason why I was a bit worried with a engine oil that is not on the LR list but specs have change during the last 25 years so will use this oil in the future if I can get it. And the extra plus that oil consumption has reduced. Engine oil in truck engines, Volvo, MAN etc are changed nowadays every 100.000 km so 5.000 km must be ok. And I love that noisy 200tdi, simple but very reliable.
  7. Hello there, Three months ago I was in Pretoria South Africa with my Landy for a engine oil change (travel through Africa for the last 29 years, on and off, 1.200.000 km's and 4 engines) I asked the workshop (not a Landrover workshop) to change the engine oil and filter. Mostly used Castrol Magnatec but asked for a very good engine oil, 15W/40. They had no Magnatec in stock but Shell Rimula was a very good alternative, that's what they said. Came back after an hour and noticed that they had used Shell Rimula R4 X 15W/40 specially made for heavy duty trucks. After 4.000 km's I noticed (suprise, suprise) that there is hardly any oil consumption (before about 0,5 liter on 1.000 km's), only going up-hill for a long time it will use a little bit. Checking the specifications, it does not give me an idea if it is bad for the 200tdi engine: Specifications: SAE viscosity grade: 15W-40 API: CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF. SL; ACEA: E7, E5, E3; Global: DHD-1; Caterpillar: ECF-2, ECF-1-A; Cummins: CES 20078, 77, 76 ,75, 72 ,71; DDC: 93K215; Deutz: DQC III-10; IVECO: T1 (Meets requirements);JASO: DH-1; Mack EO-M+, EO-M; MAN: M3275-1; MB-Approval 228.3; MTU: Category 2; Renault Trucks: RLD-2; Volvo: VDS-3; Like to know if it harms the engine with the specs. above. Specially the lack of oil consumption is a question mark. Thanks for any idea.
  8. Thanks guys for your help. Being in Africa means that internet is slower then slow and checking old topics is a pain in the bum. Hope that Britpart can send some longer studs with a speedy airmail system before Xmas.
  9. Bought 5 new BFG 235 AT tyres on new Wolf rims (genuine LR) for my early 110. To myth suprise the studs are to short, the nuts stay aprox 5 mm clear from the top of the studs so too dangerous to use. The size of the studs is exactly the same like the tdi's or td5. The Wolf rims use thicker steel (8 mm) and the nut holes are not flat on the rear of the rim like my old ones. Any idea what I can do. Longer studs, if and where they are available or??? I'm overlanding through Africa and at the moment stuck in South Africa. Hope someone can help me. Dutch Pete
  10. anyone knows if the injector from a 200tdi DISCOVERY engine is excatly the same like the one from a 200tdi DEFENDER engine. Any partnumbers available? Thanks for your help
