  1. I cant believe nobody jumped on this one: I guess I'm not as mature as the rest of you!
  2. Not a caption but did anybody else notice the tiny little man standing on the back of the black & white cow? How strange!
  3. Les, [backpedal] There was absolutely no scientific evidence to support my straw clutching 'facts' above. In fact, Parkers show these figures: Mondeo 2.0i 31-34 MPG dependent on model Disco 300 Tdi 27 MPG Disco V8 19 MPG Prius 57 MPG [/backpedal] Feel better?
  4. We could also say that we want to help their cause by sticking them on all 2.0+ Mondeos, Priuses, etc that actually pollute (long term) more than our Land Rovers. How about it then?
  5. I wonder if they make any bigger stickers, I would put one on my Land Rover! Surely, if people started asking for them, it would take the wind out of their sales (pun intended!). Though thinking about it for a few seconds more, whilst it could become a humourous 'must have' for hardened Land Rover drivers, we are very much in the minority and they are only really interested in the many many more Land Rover drivers who think their car is a Jeep or whatever (you know, the ones that dont wave back on the road )
  6. Yes. Found this forum which may be useful for Hilux/Surf/4Runner stuff: Here Otherwise outer limits has more than i can understand on 'Yota' stuff.
  7. My club (Phoenix) have permission from Ford to use "Land Rover" in our club name but I dont think they allowed use of the logo. Some of our merchandise used to have an altered Land Rover logo with 'Hang Over' on it and I was recently warned (by a LR employee) that all LR employees are obliged to report such infringements to their legal people. I hope he didnt
  8. I think you can get them really cheaply from Ikea, if you have one in Stanley . Otherwise only around £3 from DIY places/Tesco IIRC.
  9. I use a Ring inspection lamp but, like chris, found that putting one of those flourescent energy saving bulbs in has the added bonus of running cool and being a lot more robust (I havnt broken it yet!). Personally though, I prefer to use a powerful LED head torch so that the light is always where you are looking and you dont need to stop and reposition it every time.
  10. Si, Its definately more about introducing people to off-roading and having fun doing it rather than a trade-biased event like the commercial shows so dont expect hoards of tricked up motors or hard core off-roaders. That said, it is definately Land Rover dominant but lots of other marques try (and often fail) to get around the off road course. The event also attracts lots of non-LR clubs who dont have their own shows and you get a lot of cross-fertilization of ideas and Sat evening is always a great social event.
  11. I'll definately be there. Should be the best yet with highest ever advance bookings, highest number of clubs attending and big beer tent for Sat night comedy auction and disco. Still totally non-commercial and very much run by enthusiasts to introduce people to off roading and learn what their vehicles are capable of. That said, you will be surprised how 'interesting' the off road course will be PS all proceeds to air ambulance charadee
  12. I decided to keep my spare wheel in the back which left my rear door free to mount my waffles, hi-lift (other jacks are available ), shovel and tow rope when in off-road mode. Their combined weight was less than the spare wheel but I was going to strengthen the back door skin with a 6mm sheet of ali or chequer plate. Needless to say I still havn't got around to it but here is the mock up photo anyway: While looking for that photo I found this one which shows a particularly neat set up:
  13. I have a Rover Metro wheel fitted which I got for 99p on Ebay . Its quite a bit smaller than the hard 4-spoke one that was on there and much more comfortable. The pic makes it looks huge and the centre wasn't fitted when I took it but its an excellent wheel.
  14. The vehicle is showing 150,000 miles but was ex-council so could have been well maintained or thrashed? As soon as I had removed the head I could still clearly see the cross hatching in the bores (not on the thrust side of the bores), no lip at all at the top of the bores and what I reckon to only be light amounts of carbon build up on the piston crowns and bottom of the head. The Head gasket was not showing any signs of leaks and, although I have not had the valves out yet, there certainly wasn't any oil dripping out of them. The only suggestion of an oil leak was that the carbon on no2 piston looked a little damper than the others (which were all bone dry). Bores were all dry too. The intercooler hoses and inlet manifold all have a thin film of oil dust in them but no pools or sludge or anything. It wasn't smoking much but would often do so so noticably from cold but this would often go away after fully warmed up. Its never been visible while driving at speed even though I have a side exit exhaust which is clearly visible in my mirror. Usually 'puffed' smoke at idle but absolutely no smoke on overrun and the oil system never seemed to be over pressured. It passed MOT emmissions last week no probs but I need to sell soon so thought I better get it fixed before then (it looked like a simple job back then remember Taken a few days off to forget about it and get some parts so hopefully next post in a few days will have loads of these: in it? Thank you all for your advice and comments
