  1. you can check the alt by disconecting the wire from the dash lamp then take a feed from the battery with 5W BULB in line connected to the warning light terminal on the alt and a lead from D+ straight to the battery then start the engine , the light should go out ,with a meter check the volts to the battery it should be around 14.5v on start up falling to around 13.8v,if this is ok leave the wire to d+ on and reconnect the warning light wire and recheck if ok its on your split charge . hope this helps you trace the point of the fault.
  2. this may be a bit late but the ldv pilot youses a short shaft vertion of the R380.
  3. i would shop round the landy brakers,you may strike it looky .
  4. if you galvanize you need to drill vent holes in the top of the door pillars to allow for good filling and draining of the cavities.
  5. put a disco axel on my b reg 90 about 12 years ago stright swop ,still going strong ,200tdi discos have the same flange, just swop the brakes over at the flexabl hose .job takes about 2 hours with a second body to help.
  6. youl be lucky it the engine runes for more than a couple of mins at tickover , if you tryed to drive it you might get 200m befor it starts to die,had a similer set up on my fathers car ,when he forgot about it it normly stoped befor he had chance to pull off.
  7. you just need to drill and tap two holes for the hand brake mount there are pics of the position on an earlier post,i think it was about two weeks ago,
  8. you will find the newer engines with electronic turbo control delay the wast gate opening and ever boost for about 10 seconds ,this gives the overtaking surge on modern turbo diesels , have changed a lot of vv turbos on vw engines they have not got the reliability of the older type ,the vane moving pivits seem to jam with variing results to the engine .
  9. yes i have one in my 90 you have to drill and tap two hole for the hand brake linkage ,with 7.50 tyers mine at 70 mph is doing 2500 rpm ,was 3000 rpm befor the change .

  13. sounds like the max fuel screw has been turned down to far by some one in the past for econimy or mot test ,had this on a prima made boost but no fuel to make power .once i had incresed the fuel all was well.disco injection pumps can be fitted but the drive needs removing and refiting in as some are set in a difrent position so as to ston them deen a direct swop on 200 .
  14. TAKE THE HEATER PLUGS OUT AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY WATER IN THE CYLINDERS .

I ran a vm in my 90 for 8 years with on majer problems ,only mod i did was to change the head gasker from the 4 individual to one pice as yoused on the frontera ,to do this you have the two end plates off the ends of the heads mc to match the heads .Youst to get round 30 mpg with rangy transfer and 7.50 tyers,
  16. i had this problem in the past ,mine was caused by all the soot becoming loose in the exhaust while stood ,managed to clear it by taking a long run up the local dual carriage way on the way to the test station ,
  17. not if from 200tdi +its only one bolt to swop the flange if you have the later one.you also get disc brakes if its a pree defender 90.whitch had drums at the rear.
  18. HAD A PUMP DO THIS ,IN THE END CHANGED THE FLUID TO SLICK FIFTY POWER STEER FLUID HAS NEVER HAD ANY MORE TRUBLE .
  19. the vm engine was only fitted to the classic the p38 youses a bmw 6 pot , my 90 has a disco back axel fitted stright swop.good look .
  20. WILL MEASURE LATER, BUT THE LT77 YOUSED WITH THE PRIMA IS THE SAME AS THE 200 SHAFT WOULD THINK IT THE SAME ,MY 90 HAS A PRIMA TURBO FITTED .THE 380 IS FITTED TO LATE 1900 PUG ENGINED VANS SO YOU COULD FIT LAT PUG TURBO ENGINE TO 90 .
  21. dont know if this will help the R380 used in the 200 series ldv vans is fited with a short input shaft just has a smaller spigit shaft.
