  1. Hi in the process of changing the vcu centre bearings, i have managed to get the rear one off but the front one is not budging any tips? Also when i fit the new ones, how exactly do they fit? Is it as easily as to push them onto the vcu splines or has anyone got any hints as they seem to be a tight fit.... Thanks
  2. Phew panic over, just seen mechanic, Snapped alternator belt !!! Was expecting worse :-)
  3. Great start to a Monday morning.... Set off on my 20 mile journey to work, half way there then lost power steering, brakes and battery light came on dash...! Freebie been using a lot of water, had it in garage a few weeks ago thinking it had a water leak, mechanic couldnt find any leaks? so i just kept topping up... Think i have caused long term damage. Its a 2.0L diesel commercial 2000 year Any thaughts ?

  5. will the freebie be ok to drive until i get it sorted?
  6. Any help on how to check if thermostat stuck and how to unblock an airlock? I did fit a new water pump about 3 month ago but everything was fine until now?
  7. Hi thanks for that, would the thermostat stop the temp gauge from working? I have just checked water levels all ok, i have ran the engine for 15 mins and the water is hot in the water tank but the temp gauge doesnt work?
  8. Hi hoping to get some advice, I have a freelander 2.0td L series year 2000 commercial. While travelling to work over the last few days i noticed my temperature gauge isnt moving, its stays in the cold part and does not rise, on top of that the heater only blows warm air and does not get as hot as it used to. I have checked my water levels and have never ran it low on water. The freebie still drives as normal... Any suggestions?
  9. Hi, i removed my prop a cpl of months ago as i need to hunt down a vcu and replace it. Since i removed the prop i get a clunk when i change gear and its getting to me !!! I never noticed the clunk before i removed the prop. Sounds to me that something should be fixed but iam not sure what it could be? Any ideas? Thanks
  10. Hi my freebie is having problems starting, when i turn the key in the ignition nothing happens just a click under the dash. It will maybe start after 3-6 times but until it does i just get a clicking under and seems to be getting worse. Could it be my starter motor? Any help please..
  11. Thanks for the reply fridge, i got it sorted, fitted a new water pump and everything is working as it should..
  12. Hi i have a leak on my freebie and i have identified the leak coming from the coolant pump, mines a 2000 L series turbo diesel, iam guessing the o rings have gone? Anyone know if i need a new pump or can i strip it and replace the O rings with new ones?
  13. Thanks egg n chips i knew i could rely on you in times of trouble
  14. Hi just jumped in my feebie and it wont start?? It turns over but wont fire up, its a 2.0L Diesel year 2000. Something strange is happening as the radio went dead a cpl of weeks back, i checked fuses all ok, so i left the radio for dead and was going to get a new one in the future, however this morning when i jumped in, i turned the key and the radio came on but it wont start? Iam no expert and not sure if it could be an electrical fault hence the radio? Any help please?
  15. Hi, I wanted to service my freebie and thaught i would do it myself, iam no expert but quite handy with a spanner and with the help of rave manual, its not a cost cutting excersise, i just enjoy medling. Today i dropped the oil and replaced it with new, replaced the oil filter, pollen filter, fuel filter and air filter. I will probably do the brakes in a week or two. L series 2.0 TD With 70k on the clock on a year 2000. Is there anything else that i should consider doing to keep my freebie running in good shape?
  16. Thanks for yr response, I did ask one mechanic who ownes a little workshop but not an mot station, and he said that he did not think it was a requirement although obviously it would be best to check. And thanks about the note about the insurance. I have run the freebie without the prop in 2wd, but replaced the prop with a recon vcu, i do not go off road and there was not a lot of difference running the freebie in 2wd. Iam thinking of removing the prop again to save fuel and tyre wear but i do not want to remove it if it is needed for an mot?
  17. Hi, if i removed my propshaft and vcu and ran my freebie in 2wd, how do i stand when i take the vehicle to get an mot? not sure if its a requirement to have the freebie in 4wd when mot is due or whether its ok with the propshaft removed in 2wd? Thanks
  18. Thanks got the paint match
  19. How do i find out the colour code of my freebie? I need to touch up although i might take it to the bodyshop, but it still would be handy to know what the colour shade is for future ref. I have looked on the plate under the bonnet and although it says paint colour on the plate there is no code match? Thanks
  20. Doh dont follow my advise... wot do i know....! Thanks Geminidawn for the tip. Where or who sells this Farecla Gel-coat Restorer?
  21. I would have another tomorrow if something happened to my 2 litre diesal L series commercial, so far its been great apart from the usual VCU, but now fixed. Great to drive and when i put the dog in the back he never wants to get out so he must love it to..!
  22. Dont know if i should have or not but i used WD40 on my hard roof, it took off all the residue and dirt and give it a nice shine. That was over 3 months ago and its done no damage to my roof.
  23. Hi can anyone explain to me what the VCU Damper does? I thaught i had problems with my Vcu but noticed it was the damper that was damaged not the Vcu. I have done the tipex test on the vcu and it appears to be working but the damper is damaged and i have done a temp repair with tape to hold it together. I need to change my vcu bearings and thaught i would do the damper at same time! Iam not even sure what it does or how it comes off. Iam not sure, and i may be wrong but does it reduce vibration? When driving, i dont get any vibration? Can someone explain to me how this thing works and what its for? Many thanks
  24. Thanks egg n chips, i got incontact with a place i found on the tinternet called bell engineering (specialists in freelanders vcu ird diffs etc) they said same as you that it might not be that bad and just replace the vcu. They supply recon vcu`s for 215 squids as long as they take your old one to recon. thanks 4 the help
