  1. Looking for some technical help here. Is the old Fairey Range Rover LT95 overdrive a direct fit onto LT95 gearboxes used on the 101 forward control and also the Isuzu MD11B powered 110s built in Australia? I understand that the drive gear in the transfer case section may have a different number of teeth so that the Fairey Range Rover unit will not fit. The gear taken out of a Range Rover or early UK 110 when fitting the overdrive is part 90571010. What is the part number of the equivalent gears in the 101 and the MD11B 110? Has anyone any experience of fitting an overdrive to a 101 or Australian 110? Ray
  2. Enjoyed the Billing Show. It was my tenth year exhibiting there and I did not feel that attendance was down significantly over the previous year. Thanks to all the customers who dropped by our booth. Ray Wood ROVERDRIVE GEAR CORPORATION
  3. I'll be there manning the ROVERDRIVE OVERDRIVE stand. A long way from home in British Columbia but will be there with trusty 'Matilda' the 1984 110 we just drove from Cape Town to Mombasa. Please drop by for a chat. Ray
  4. I thought I might post some pictures of our April expedition from Cape Town to Mombasa in two 1984 110s. The white one has the V8 taken out and a 300TDi fitted. The green one is Australian with the original MD11B naturally aspirated diesel. We went via Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania. Ray
  5. In my experience the only advantage to polybushings is that they are easy to change. The original bushes in the RM parabolics have a lot of rubber and give a much quieter and more durable ride. Not such a pretty colors however and not supported by flashy advertising. Ray
  6. Roverdrives have been unobtainable for a year but are back in production and those on the UK waiting list should get theirs by the end of this month or early July. The new units have nicer looking castings than before and an improved shorter shift pattern. The linkage has also been upgraded with nylon lined rod ends. 7. Thought I might make a contribution to this thread as my name is being bandied about....... I'm the majority shareholder in Roverdrive Gear Corporation - we make the Roverdrive in our new factory in Vancouver. We are at present catching up on back orders for the units. We will be at Billing this year and by then hope to have caught up with demand. Mark Nault at Wise Owl has no authority to comment on our production and is no longer one of our distributors. My daily transportation is 1995 NADA 110 fitted with the International 2.8 It is a wonderful machine to drive with the Roverdrive fitted and the unit is showing no sign of distress. The Roverdrive is based on gearing from a heavy duty American truck transmission so easily copes with the 2.8's power. This discussion suggests that the Disco transfer case can be compared in performance to an overdrive but in reality they are two different animals. Converting the transfer case raises all the high range gears (bad on a heavily loaded towing or expedition vehicle) and gives a total of about 15% overdrive above normal fifth. Ashcroft makes an excellent conversion that is is a good value if you don't load your Land Rover much and are looking for a compromise between grunt and fuel economy. An overdrive (be it a Roverdrive or a GKN) leaves your original gear ratios the same (for grunt) but adds a truly significant overdrive ratio of 28% almost double what is gained with the modified transfer case. This gives a wonderful ratio for loping along motorways (in comparative silence for a Land Rover) and there are significant fuel savings to be made. You can use a Roverdrive in all gears including low range which makes the unit a far more versatile accessory for the Land Rover than the modified transfer case. Although easier to install than the transfer case the Roverdrive costs more (US$1650 stateside) so ultimately personal budget not technical differences are going to determine what gets fitted on your Land Rover.
