  1. What seems to get regularly forgotten in threads like these is that rugged off road ability, endless reliability and outstanding build quality don't have to be mutually exclusive with luxury and sophistication. Toyota manage it without issue. Sadly Toyota has withdrawn their largest land cruiser (the 200) from the uk market due to dwindling sales, but elsewhere in the world they are the first choice for an executive 4x4. In my role I regularly get feedback on Disco 3/4 and Land Cruiser 200 from users and fleet managers alike. Whilst the users love the disco it's widely loathed by fleet management due to the incredibly poor reliability - even in the UK where there is excellent dealer support I have heard managers say they cannot keep them on the road, and you can imagine the situation in Africa and further afield. The Land Cruisers on the other hand just keep going - we have some @ over 200,000km in under 5years running at 4.5tonne kerb weight and in the worst environments, any failures we see are largely down to aftermarket fittings. For me, if Land Rover want any of Toyota's global market share they need to look long and hard and the quality of workmanship and reliability of their products.
  2. Tell me about it! I will get there eventually, just not this time
  3. I'm not going to make it again! Car is still in bits from Kirton. Maybe I'll make to next years
  4. I paint both props every time I put another coat on the chassis, and I just slap floor paint on with a brush, I shouldn't worry
  5. I seem to remember encountering a similar issue when fitting an aftermarket wheel - it was fouling on the raised circular lip of the steering column cowl, which I just filled off flush with the rest of the cowl. Hope this helps
  6. My standard defender seats are bolted down into rivnuts, albeit 1 tonne rivnuts. All TD5 defenders use rivnuts from factory
  7. So mine was first registered 22/04/83 VIN 189385 Do I win Mike? Or is yours a bit earlier?
  8. I've got an 83 Y 110 in storage (a field) awaiting resto after the mini and the house I'll dig out the log book later and check the vin
  9. I'll have to keep an eye out for that type of cable, I could use a spare
  10. I've got this Noco Genius charger Again, not cheap, but intelligent, 12/24volt, remembers it's setting after losing mains power, conditions the batteries too. I bought it on the strength of having a lot of them at work and being impressed by their thorough idiot proof-ness https://no.co/g7200 They do cheap/lower output ones too. My customer uses CTEK MXS7.0's, they seem comparable in price, features and output
  11. We fit around 600 General Grabber AT2's a year to new vehicles, and have done since around 2009, we also supply about 400 a year for vehicles already in service. I've driven them on and off road on various continents, in all weathers, and never had an issue. I only get good reports from the users. We are running at between 4000kg and 5200kg gvw with ~60psi pressures From personal experience of defender ownership I'd suggest any vagueness in the handling is probably down to the vehicle, not the tyre
  12. I found that there wasn't enough length/movement on my 300tdi throttle cable, so I carefully cut off a bit more of the square thread part of the outer sheath, this gave me just enough range of movement to get full throttle and still have a little slack in the cable with the FIP throttle arm on the idle stop
  13. I think its probably about £1k too strong, but that it'll sell anyway. If it was a runner and the wings were the right colour then it would be loads more
  14. Lol! If it makes you feel any better I'm not exactly young myself
  15. Your 88 looks great in that last pic RPR! I remember reading about your Landy years ago before I could even drive, nice to see its still going
  16. Yes, withhold payment. Agree a date and time that you go in there to see them, explain your points as above, remain calm, and state how you expect them to resolve it, agree a timeline and go from there
  17. I had my rad purpose built by the company that team idris works for, I don't see why they couldn't do what you're asking
  18. One of my mates had a K&N filter on the end of his snorkel. it was alright at first until it rained and absorbed a load of water which strangled the engine, he then put a little rain cover over the top of it. Later it got a decent splash on it whilst wading and flooded the engine, he's changed to an OE filter box now
  19. Yes, 2" is smaller diameter than the standard too exhaust, so probably isn't helping
  20. Do they need them? The LED headlamps on my BMW don't have a kick up at the kerbside, neither do the aftermarket 7" LED headlamps on my mates Range Rover classic. I assumed none do
  21. I'm struggling to understand how it can hit the bonnet. My airbox is bolted on an angled bracket to the same mounting points as your alternator, and it clears the bonnet just fine, and surely must be a bigger diameter than the 24v alt? Perhaps my engine being further back makes all the difference
  22. The second photo looks like a bolt on roll cage mounting
