  1. removed one halfshaft and checked it's a 24 spline, ordered the new diff carrier. yes the day it broke was wheel spinning for some time (i wont call it excessive),and i'm not using it for extreme 4x4 action so may something was wrong from the first place,do the gears in the carrier need shimming or is a standard fit? thnx for the reply !
  2. i thing mine is 24 spline is it possible? i'll check the one that i removed last time,so if for any reason is a 24 spline it will be ok? thnx for the reply k88mud
  3. hi there boys, during the weekend broke the rear diff(planetary gears got crushed, same thing for the second time,is it a common weakness or something that i have to look at it?) and found a brand new one diff carrier but says that it's for disco1 94 on and disco2 mine is a 200tdi 93,will it fit? i know for sure is a 24 spline but don't know or see anyother difference. any help would be appreciated
  4. thnx for the replies boys, mark,i don't use anti roll bars, and i've got front and rear relocation cones. found a set of coil springs for the defender, again from bearmach fronts are 175lbs/inch and rears 225lbs/inc i think it will be ok but what makes me scratch my head is that for the same amount of lift -2inch- defender use the hardest springs of the three and r/r being the softest, how can you specify the softer springs for the heaviest car or i'm i missing something here? i know some r/r use self leveling units but some 110-130 too, fridgefreezer-searched through the technical archive and found lots of infos but not the trev's calculator,i'll search again i will post some pictures when i find the time to fit the new coil springs,
  5. last weekend fitted a set of +2 in springs from bearmach but had the chance of testing it yesterday (because of a transferbox swap during the week)and the thing it does not flex at all it drives rock solid on the tarmac but the springs are way to hard/strong for offroading,if you push it on a ramp on one wheel what it does, the whole body it's leaning until one wheel loose grip, the axle it gets nowhere near to the bumpstop in fact, the distance between bumpstop and axle on a ramp is bigger than it use to be with standard springs and on a level ground!! any thoughts on what spring rate to use? these seem to hard for offroading, thinking on going for standard springs from the range rover, any informations or a tip how to find out what suits best for off road just say it!! i'll try to post some pictures later on but i may need some help with that
  6. it can be done, but remember to keep your spring seats because 110 and 130 use bigger diameter springs
  7. had the same problem, after a few months of "practising" out it turned out it was a worn output gear/flange, it's the flange that takes the drive from the gearbox main shaft into the transferbox(correct me if i named wrong any parts) some times a worn main shaft means a lot of labour to fix it.
  8. thnx for the reply!! yeap, i forgot to mention, the whole that you supose ti fit in the speed sensor i blank,no hole on the case, it may use the abs sensor to pick up speed signal.i don't know the exact year that belongs to but definently can't fit a speed sensor.who needs it anyway, can't go over the highway limit with that think anyway
  9. i was wandering if i can fit a disco td5 transfer box on a 200tdi with the lt77 gearbox, the reason simply because it has less mileage from a dozen t/bxs i've checked and less backlash anyone here that did it before? or know a few things about that?
  10. sorted,i'm going on a full overhaul, the kit is cheaper to buy and post from uk than the gear/transfer box combo. seems a better option.
  11. i've seen a disco 200tdi with the r380 (from 300tdi) gearbox and drove it,reverse is right and back instead of front and left on a lt77 200tdi original, but don't know how they did it,the gear lever is on the same place so no worries on the length, so forget the td5 and search for a r380 300tdi item?
  12. my disco 200tdi transfer box is long gone and the gear box is soon to follow (rattles and loud noise from the clutch side bearing)so thought to find a complete set of the two, found a td5 disco 2 gear box + transfer box, thing is the same r 380 on 300tdi but not sure, is it a straitforward swap ?need to fit my bellhousing and done or just forget about it? thnx dafnos
  13. tdsi think no it's not like detroit of what i understand, is 100 % locked but variable at the same time check it out on the link corrected from landymanluke (thanks for that) a couple of simillar diiff where made from various auto makers and subaru had one with no gears but balls where not moving planetary, think, 100% locked and differentiate at the same time.
  14. hi to all new on the forum, find it very informative and interesting!! not sure the right place to post this topic but will try to move if not ok. was searching on an old mag something on diffs and found something interesting,a greek mechanic called tsiriggakis some years ago invented a diff that works with no gears but use steel balls or sliding blocks, very interesting as a device but don't know how it performs in real world, tested but never went on production because of patent selling issues or something, worth taking a look!! http://www.tsiriggakis.gr/gd.htmlhttp://ww...akis.gr/gd.html
