  1. 1.75 then I got bored............. just goes to prove you lot have no sense at all persisting for a high score
  2. OOps,Lucky you weren't on your way to catch the ferry on your trip to Italy Anyway, hopefully its just a minor glitch
  3. I got one recently from a well known manufacturer, beautifully made in 1" 3/4 which seemed more than adequate.
  4. I have found the Td5 to be a superb engine having done 40k in the first one and 56k in the second one without a problem.I find that it is an easily tuned and very strong engine. 170bhp and well alble to take more. The electrickery is hardly rocket science, and no doubt home diagnostics will become available as time goes on. Also sounds great with cat ditched .Finally it is the last genuine Land Rover engine, the end of a long line.
  5. The above statement is quite untrue in every possible way as none contain Kevlar! All the figures quoted are wrong and every individual manufacturer of synthetic lines claims different characteristics and performance specifications for their products, this also applies to steel as there are different qualities and maufacturing processes available for this also.. I am happy to discuss the technical composition of the various synthetic winch lines in detail off forum as it will require a great deal of technospeak, boring as h**l for the majority of viewers. Sweeping statements should be reserved for people using brushes and in general are just for pushing rubbish about!! Andy Thomlinson. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH,Kevlar is a trade name of Dupont and has the same characteristics as Dyneema etc, sorrrrrrry you are wrong Kevlar is contained in some synthetic ropes as are the equivalent manufacturers version. Hardly a flogging or hanging offence as I'm quite sure most people interpreted my post as it was and is meant. The quoted breaking strains are generally correct as everyone with on ounce of sense knows that every manufacturer will vary as will every rope of the same size and different construction composition. Unlike you I don't claim to be an expert,I just run a Land Rover with winches and own a crane hire business, nor do I attempt to patronise the forumeers by thinking they wouldent understand a subject thats hardly rocket science.
  6. All these synthetic ropes Dynaline,Dyneema,Spectra,Plasma,Vectran etc are manufacturers trade names for the same composition material using Kevlar as opposed to conventional ropes which are manufactured from terylene, nylon.polyester, polypropelyne etc . These stretch significantly and therefore store latent energy. In the event of breaking the same as wire rope ,they will snap back with potentially lethal consequences. The synthetic ropes have virtually no stretch. As a guide, the breaking strain of 1" polyester webbing is 3000kg The breaking strain of 10mm synthetic rope is 5000kg.12mm is 7,200kg 8mm galvanised wire as standard fitting on many winches is 4600 kg breaking strain. Bear in mind that in commercial lifting operations cranes etc we use 16mm wire rope tested to 23000 kg breaking strain ,but certified for between 3000 kg and 4000kg depending on construction and quality. Makes you think about the safety margins we use on Land Rover winches. I use 12mm Dyneema on my front uprated 8274 and 9mm dyneema on a 9,000lb rear winch.
  7. I'm not suprised they took it off,not that I have actually used it ....... It is sold primarily to the marine (yotty) fraternity and is polyester webbing, prone to uv degradation and not particularly strong, certainly nothing as compared to 9mm wire or 11mm plasma. If pulling through an alloy fairlead from the side it will get distorted and be prone to lots of friction. I'd say its ideal as an extension only
  8. How about "Land Rover R we Mad!" No articles about beautiful 90/110s kitted out for the Malasyian Rainforest Challenge that have never been beyond Tescos car park.
  9. Yes,assuming both are on 16" rims there is only about 3mm difference in diameter, they are both the metric equivalents to 33inch. I am running them on a 90 fitted with 6.5" freestyle alloys, at 27psi ,it does restrict lock slightly. Havent a clue about ATs inn those sizes, but I'd be suprised if they werent avilable.
  10. Not suprising to hear of splitting if fitted to rims narrower than they reccomend. I Have to say my experience of BFG muds hass been that they are an excellent on and offroad tyre, last set have over 45,000 miles on them and still going.I run 285x75x16s and am convinced the BFGs have the best road manners and best wear of any MT.
  11. I have to say that I thought straight through pipe definitely widened power band noticably on my TD5.Also increased noiselevels inside.Am interested that it should pass emissions test without cat silencer.
  12. Wonder if that would be a good or bad
  13. Thought a Td5 with immobiliser and electrickery would be hard to nick, but maybe if it was re engined, the security fitted to modern Defenders would be missing?
  14. Talking of waffles, does anyone know the relevance of different colours.i'm told its a grading of flexibility?
  15. Are you sure you don't mean err ,agricultural???
  16. Just that I'd rather not meet my rear end coming towards me while trying to work out whether I'm coming or going
  17. Must be a tad exciting on wet tarmac at anything over 10mph
  18. While it is very hard to quantify the quality differences, I know that for a very small potential saving I'd rather go with the OE Dayco. After all think of the potential for disaster
  19. With the price of diesel going mad it is becoming an option,I know of a few people running older Land Rovers using a 50/50 mix of oilseed rape and diesel. The rape oil costs about €0.70/litre or roughly .47p Stg here in Ireland with diesel here at €1.06 or £Stg 0.72p. I'm just back from a week in Wales where diesel costs about 98p a litre
  20. Knowing the Td5s tight tolerances to everything I wonder if anyone knows will it run on bio diesel/oil additive mixture? Apparantly common rail diesels don't/cant run on bio mix. Any info appreciated.
  21. Yep,I'm sorry to say I've heard the same thing.Once its run dry you damage the pump
  22. I'm not a newbie I'm a spring chicken........please
  23. I'd have thought "wicked witch of the west" would have been more apt for you Mandy! Jon Am still the witch, but a change is as good as a rest! HillBilly Raider? sounds like a scene out of Deliverance Perfect then
