  1. Picked up the new toy on Tuesday. Here's a pic taken today.. What do you think?? Steve So here it is really.. it's a 2005 90 Truck Cab, that was obvious!! , that was just under six months old and 3000 miles on the clock. Bought it from LR dealer in Glasgow. Yes Glasgow! Very local to Cambridge There was a reason for this madness namely that I bought it for 12,800 inc VAT. It's bog standard apart from a tow pack. It now has 3500 miles on the clock thanks to drive back and thanks to Chris Watts for helping out with the driving back to Cambridge. Not sure he was too pleased though when he found out there was no stereo! Only two mods so far. First was to have the alarm/immobiliser activated. LR factory actually fit the alarm/immobiliser to every TD5 Defender, but charge you 250 pounds as an option to add it to the standard ones. Of course they don't tell you that it has it already and that it would only cost the price of two fobs and 10mins labour to activate it. Fortunately I was aware and saved myself 175 pounds - Result! Second mod was to fit security cubby box from mobile storage systems. Thanks for the recommendation Chris, they are very well made.. Not so straight forward to fit as I didn't want to take a grinder to the tub, as per instructions, especially as it was only 24hrs after I picked it up. Modded cubby box instead and also cut T4 diagnostic port bracket to fit around cubby box.. The 90's muddy as I couldn't resist some lanes on the way back from Mobile Storage Systems!! Only problem was they were muck spreading on one of the fields next to one of the lanes, so now the 90 stinks like a farmers truck cab as well as looking like one! Here's some more pics.. What do you think of the new Simex Extreme III's?? Suitable for the Bull Dog's 34" limit Lots more mods planned over the next 12 months or so. Steve
  2. No Col, I'll take some pics today. Picked it upon Tuesday, got it dirty yesterday Cheers Steve
  3. You can get them on ebay if you want to pay 200 pounds a pair!! That's really why I asked the original q to see what was special about them etc. Cheers Steve
  4. Cheers James how bizarre then. Can't really see the point of them. Cheers Steve
  5. Anyone got any experience of fitting these and how they work? Just wondering how the wolf air intake works?? Does it draw air in from the side or just the top?? Here's a pic in case anyone was wondering what I was onabout;) Cheers Steve
  6. Hi Tim Jon used to use a swingway carrier, you may have noticed holes in swiss cheese rear tailgate! , but then took it off as when he had the Simex on it would affect rear departure angle. When I bought it he stored on side ratchet strapped up against roll hoop. I moved it to bottom of the tub to drop centre of gravity and also to improve visibility when on events with bikini top on. Also it is more securely held in by straps there. You'll notice that the waffle holder is taller than the waffles. This is to allow for the difference in widths of the BFG's and Simex. A good solution could be swingway for BFG's and laning, allowing you to fit seats and leave plenty of room inside tub, and then when using Simex you could put it on floor of tub. Cheers Steve
  7. I'd just like to point out that there is only one official type of Plasma. All other are Synthetic Winch Line. In future on this post can you please refer to it as a "Synthetic Winch Line" cutter, or SWL cutter would be ok too! Thanks Steve
  8. Nothing to do with me, but this is on at a good price at the mo. Just thought I'd mention in case anyone wanted to pick one up for a lot less money than LR charges or aftermarket ones. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-RANGE-ROV...oQQcmdZViewItem Cheers Steve
  9. Well you would say that being Member no.5!! O to be Member no.1 Steve BTW I agree to, getting rid of post count would be good
  10. ok been urged to post by Bigfoot's reply, but first just want to say a few things.. Les You don't need to take anyones opinion on the site as a personal afront. David is welcome to his view and it's always worthwhile accepting someone else opinion and looking into it, instead of immediately coming back with comments like Rubbish etc. honitonhobbit, Dave I think some of your views are fair - like it's not upto LRe when LRe was good. Probably about 12 months ago, but hey it needs time to build up and more new people to come in and provide new blood, new views etc - this is starting to happen. The friendly nature of the place, the technical help available, varied discussion, regular meets etc will all help this to happen. Personally I don't think anyone on here is striving to have LR4x4 the best forum on web by far! They just want a place to share stuff get info and keep in touch with like minded people and LR enthusiasts. That why a lot of on here visit place like Devon4x4, ORRP, Muddyweb, Difflock too. Each have their own benefits. Bigfoot Not really sure what you are trying to achieve with your site. There doesn't seem to be anything different from it and it's apparent that it's not attracting lot's of people. Not trying to be harsh just wondering if this is the case and you need funding etc, why not join in over here or some other forum. If personal differences prevent doing it over here then why not somewhere else like difflock, muddyweb etc. The archive is handy, but only for the people that used LRe. As we all know most new people post rather than go searching archives for answers. Most people only chose to stay over here because it was working and everyone jumped over too, and we are a lazy bunch and couldn't be arsed with changing our favourites all of the time. OK I know some didn't like the bright green so it was personal for some and personally I don't like attending a site with 'Addict' on but for the majority it was just easier to stay here. Just trying to work out to why you want to continue. Finally Dave is right we shouldn't go into self gloat mode, but I also think it's good for everyone to know how the site is progressing and funded. btw Dave some of your comments were carp too Cheers Steve
  11. Who donated the other 20 quid!!! Cheers for the effort so far in getting the site going etc Steve

  14. Hi Will Have a read of this, and do a search on www.rangerovers.net forum.. I noticed that auto toys links don't work so try a search Cheers Steve
  15. Sorry to hear that Jeremy, looks like they might be sorting itout though. Ihope you get it sorted. How much for the hoover, if I pick up andpay in cash?? Steve
  16. Tony if you can wait until Jan I can get you one for then, maybe before but no gurantee. Alternatively, if enough people are interested, we could get a bulk order together, and have it shipped. Shipping costs wouldn't be that bad on surface. Again you'd need to be able to wait 3-4wks. It's best to call him rather than e-mail, He's +8 hours, calling about now was always good for me. Cheers Steve
  17. Looking at prices of Warn and ARB in the US, if you were to buy in bulk at trade, there would be more than enough room for shipping, VAT and Customs to make a very hefty margin. Sourcing ARB direct from Australia you could get even more. Overheads of web, phone and ebay selling are very low. They could probably shave another 50 pounds of the Warn 8274-50 price and still make a good profit. Just depends on how Warn and ARB view grey imports and how vigorously they would want to stop it. Steve
  18. Sweat! Well for the co-driver anyway There will be a range of punches with varying difficulty to keep all levels interested. Will there be a risk of damage in going for some - Yes, but it will be choice of team. Was Tonk asking on behalf of someone else?? I can't beleive it was for himself! ;) Officially no as it's not competitive! It will be run just like Bampton. Cheers Steve If this affects people attending I'm sure we can get the date changed. They can pick another weekend for the Round 2 No seriuosly, if this starts to cause a problem for a number of people that want to attend I can talk to Peter and look at another weekend. It's still early days and almost 4 months away, so I'm sure changing it will be ok Cheers Steve
  19. apart from Mo, the rest are just shy!! Steve
  20. OK so far we have... Matt, series3_mad are you wanting to enter as well, or attending? For those attending to drive, marshal, set-up, get stuck laugh at those getting stuck etc we have.. 22. Ouch!! On a nice new Rubicon too
  23. I'd second the vote for the difflock one. Had mine for 3 years now, excellent and very stable. 17mm shy of your requirement Nige so probably not good enough!! I thought you were going to have the lowest 90 around too!! Steve
  24. Did anyone see the Scrapheap challenge when about an hour to go the 'expert' used contact adhesive to stick a truck inner tube to their ice machine. Half way round applying it inner tube goes POP!! Classic- the looks on the other members of the team. Steve
