  3. For the floor you could roll on Upol Raptor. 2 coats would give you a very hard wearing surface that’s resistive to fuel, oil spills.
  4. Just posted this, as clearly the media are ignoring this. I know it makes for a good picture and headline, but showing pics of people walking hand in hand, small groups of people with no context is hardly mass ignorance of the guidelines. Shocking picture of people at the seaside in the daily mail...
  5. To be fair, the government gave less than clear guidelines. Most of the restrictions were aimed at over 70’s and vulnerable, then for the rest they told them to avoid large gatherings and actively encouraged people to get out in the fresh air. So is it no surprise that people go out on walks, to the seaside, on their motorbike etc. Apart from queues for at takeaway food places etc. probably most people were following the guidelines. If a couple that live in the same house, sleep in the same bed, are they to walk 2m apart outside. Same with families that live in the same house use the same bathroom, eat at the same table, are they supposed to walk 2m apart everywhere when they are out? Last night, as a result the government then says all but essential travel - this isn’t what they were saying previously. It’s a bit amateurish changing these guidelines on a daily basis. First of it was bars & clubs to avoid. Then they start adding cafes and restaurants, then they close them all. Next as predicted, it will be a total lockdown.

Interesting to hear how other car designers talk and where they want to keep that authentic engineering look and function over form. Not Gerry he wants to portray solidness through a stuck on painted panel. 🙄

  9. If I recall the Bronco will have the same setup as the next gen Raptor, independent front and live axle in the rear with coils and a watts linkage. Current raptor uses leaf springs in the rear.
  10. Personally, and this is not an attack, but maybe it’s you that has the minority view and not the journalists. Mordern cars, for the most part, are more comfortable, steer better, handle better, brake better than a Defender or the new Jimmy. This is especially so on a long journeys and at higher speeds that journalists will normally use for their tests. High speed A/B roads with compressions etc. will show up a live axle easily. Add in the cheap plastics, small space etc. and it’s no wonder most don’t like the Jimny and previously the Defender. Now, you see past all the downsides and like the Jimny for what it is, most journalists naturally won’t, so is it any wonder that you see the negative reports?

Now Geoff I’m sure you already know that’s not correct. 🙄 It’s based on a whole mix of things, things you’ve looked at, demographic profiling, especially if you have a google account, locale, destination site profile and as I pointed out also what other visitors of that site have viewed elsewhere. Now as I’d never seen that ad displayed elsewhere, and the fact that it was an individual product item not a general site advert, I can be certain that it was a regular visitor to LR4x4 that had previously looked at those boots. Now, looking at the boots, I can understand them wanting to be anonymous, and they can remain that way as it was only posted as a joke, not a witch hunt. 🙂🙂🙂🙂 Now, some might question, why you are trying to infer that I’d looked at them, and this may be a diversionary tactic by you. 😉😉😉😉😉 cheers, Steve 🙂
  12. I had the same issue as you, complete novice but wanting to produce relatively good results. The best investment I’ve found is in the compressor. Good high CFM, seems to top out at 14CFM with a compressor running on normal mains power, and with a 150-200l tank. I’ve found when doing full panels, the 200l tank gives you enough air to get some good passes In before the compressor kicks in. If I’m doing a top coat and clear coats, I tend to wait until tank is full before moving on. For primers etc. there’s more leeway. For a gun, I went with a 3m accuspray one, that allows various tips at an affordable price. It’s very easy to clean, and the 3m pps system makes it easy to mix paints and use. You get about 10-20 uses out of the tips, depending on how thorough you are about cleaning and the type of paint in use. https://www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/index.php/3m-accuspray-hvlp-primer-spray-gun.html#sthash.lOSaD5df.dpbs I built a home made water trap, sorry no pics other than this one. Just a simple board with a few passes of push fit pipe that then feeds a water drop, two stage air filters and a regulator. I use the hi-flo air fittings throughout and sufficient diameter air hose so that the connectors are the smallest diameter. I tried a dual tank setup, to feed my air fed mask using old compressor and new, but even this setup couldn’t support both. I suspect you need a good 20CFM plus to do this and my free flow combined was probably nearer to 16-18. I considered using one compressor to feed the mask, but then I’d have the additional investment of another filter and water trap set up. With the air fed mask you also get into a mode of needing to ensure that the compressors are placed where they can draw in any fumes from painting. So for the majority of my painting I’ve used an open free flowing area, 3m half mask, goggles and a full paint suit. I wear this when mixing paints too. I’ve built a home made booth, with an extraction fan, and this is great for reducing contamination, no wind etc. but I suspect it’s not the best from a health & safety point of view. Practice obviously helps, but it doesn’t take long to get to an acceptable standard. I’ve found the hardest is clearcoats and getting enough coverage to gloss, without any runs.

  14. Personally, I think the looks and more importantly the price will result in a failure For LR. If it succeeds in replacing D5 sales, that’s a failure for the company as a whole. At the prices they’ve set, I just can’t see it selling in high enough incremental sales for LR. A couple of years and we’ll know the answer.
  15. Equally though - I’m not a fan of the amount of vehicles driving around that are paying no car tax and insurance (1 in 8 vehicles in the worst areas). If they’re increasing cameras cars to catch these, as per their current Tv and radio ad campaigns, then personally I think that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, it seems their software needs updating, however, you can understand why they check cars on driveways too, as it’s likely in most cases these vehicles would be in use.

  17. Your e-class has a proper auto box in it, I suspect it’s with dual clutch boxes like anything from the VW stable as I’ve had this happen too. The e-class auto also has the double press brake pedal feature that only merc seem to do, where it will hold the brake on for you, then you just have to accelerate to set off. What a labour saving tech feature that we all need 😉😉😉

  19. I see that Discovery 5 sales slumped by 43% in the UK in 2019. it will be interesting to see what additional dent the arrival of the Defender makes to that in 2020. You can’t blame the drop in sales fully on the looks of the rear of the D5. If so, the Defender better watch out too, with that fugly rear end. So it’s more likely down to to reliability issues, value compared to other brands and overall looks that’s hitting D5 sales.

  21. You should be ok with 10% thinners, that is what I have used. You’ll get a light texture if you use a primer tip, 1.8/2.0. Use a something like 1.4, and flat back the primer and you’ll get a completely smooth finish like any other top coat, albeit super hard. I tried some test pieces on some ally plate and you could hit it pretty hard with a hammer or screwdriver without damage. It will certainly take some off road abuse ok. I think for liners, upol recommends the Schultz gun to achieve the full textured finish as it gives better protection to shock impacts. Remember that it contains isocyanates, so suit up, use gloves and an air fed mask, even when mixing up. cheers, Steve
