  1. Got offered £50 each from a well known gearbox re-manufacturer. It'll cost me £75 to send them though so....
  2. I bought a td4 fl1 automatic with no reverse gear. I changed the gearbox for one off ebay which lasted 6 months before developing a major leak. I have replaced it again but now have a collection of ruined boxes. Is there anywhere that is likely to want them? I tried Ashcroft but there is no answer on the phone.
  3. Got it sorted! It was a bad earth!!
  4. Hi Mark5209, I had a similar problem on mine, must have hit a pothole or something and the anti roll bar had shifted across, causing it to clunk against the spring on cornering. I'd check that the anti-roll bar is the same distance away from the spring on both sides.
  5. Hello, I have a Td4 Freelander automatic. It had lost reverse gear so I replaced the gearbox. After loads of mucking about with gearbox oil I got it running. I fired it up and took it to my local MOT station. It drove perfectly on the way there. 1/2 an hour later I got a phone call from the tester saying it won't start. I trailered it home again. It's flashing F 4 on the dash and won't turn over. F4 is limp home for the gearbox. After some searching on here I'm led to believe that the F4 fault and the non-starting are unrelated, so I bought a new starter and fitted that. No joy. Any ideas? TIA
  6. Hmmm. Having got it up on the ramp today, it appears that all the bushes are OK. I will stick it in for it's MOT as is soon and see what that throws up. Thanks for the replies, certainly interesting reading.
  7. We are about 1/2 way through finishing someone's unfinished project. A rather nice 1989 90 with galv chassis and new bulkhead. Next job is getting it up on the ramp. Having had a look round it's going to need a few bushes (it was sat for 10 years before I acquired it), I was wandering if it's going to be worth the time money and effort fitting a full pollybush kit to it. Are they a significant improvement? Do they last much longer, as advertised? Any thoughts appreciated.
  8. Sounds like there is a short in the wire or bad connection somewhere.
  9. It's retired nowadays. I'll probably pick up a Salisbury somewhere...
  10. Hi all, I am looking to replace the rear axle on my 1980 109. I've got a few rear axles knocking about but none off a 109. The one that looks most like it is off a 1978 88, will it fit?
  11. I've changed a few and never had an issue. Just filled in the new engine number on the v5 and posted it off, no letter or anything. I think it's not really an issue because they've always been either straight swaps or 2.5 for 2.5.
  12. It depends on what you are looking for, although they look the same they are different beasts. Td5s will take much more of a battering at high revs (off road) but TDCIs are way better on long journeys and sit comfortably at 70mph in 6th on the motorway. I own 2 pumas and 5 Td5s. Personally I prefer the Td5 but that's because I have to fix them when they break down - it's easier to tell what bit's broken on the Td5 because it's a far more straightforward engine. Also the nearest motorway to me is 100 miles away.
  13. Agree with that but would also add that ex MOD ones are over priced. People seem to pay over the odds because it's been in the army.
  14. Not sure about the beige cream interior on the first one....
  15. It's a cracker: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-90-1987-2-5td-Hardtop-Full-Body-Off-Restoration-/261749299471?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cf179590f
  16. When you get it up on ebay post a link up (or PM the link to me if the mods prefer), I'm not interested in buying it but I am terribly nosey.
  17. Hello, I am having issues with a 2007 FL2. It wont start if the temp fall down below -3. I have spoken to an ILS and he said that when it's cold it should take a second or so before it turns over when I push the button - to allow the glow plugs to warm up. It's never done this, not once, in 3 years I've had it. It's always started to turn over immediately. I'm guessing there must be a sensor somewhere that tells it to engage the cold start procedure, any idea where this sensor is? Thanks.
  18. 10k is high for an 8yo motor. I would go for an XS or higher (SE, HSE). Ss and GSs depreciate too quickly.
  19. I'd do the swap if it were me. You can spend loads on either. The disco value will go down, I don't see the same happening with the SW anytime soon.
  20. I wasn't aware they tested electric windows during the MOT. Is that a new thing, or perhaps an Ireland only thing?
  21. The Td5s are positively sparse compared to the mass of plastic and gubbins under a Puma bonnet...
  22. Bin it and get a 200tdi. Not much on them. I'll do you a swap if you like...
