  1. Hi Mo Sorry to have taken so long to respond. The new Calipers arrived and are now fitted. They match the original equipment with the same number on the castings as the originals. What price would be attractive enough to you, bearing in mind cost of delivery, which I have not yet ascertained?
  2. I will first wait to see that the new Calipers when received, are the correct parts. Mo Are you after Calipers with, or without Pistons and Seals? Def
  3. Hi Grease Now applied as advised and shafts have been lightly oiled too. Brake Pads and Pistons Diff, you are correct. On both Rear wheels and on the front RHS, the Inner Pistons had seized and the metal backing of the Inner Pads had seized at the top and bottom mating face within the Caliper. This is a lesson to me when servicing, to check that Pistons move at both sides of the Disc, rather than just looking at the front or rear edge of the wearing material, which can look sound and of good thickness. I have new Calipers coming for the front, a hasty decision perhaps on reflection. If anybody is interested in a set of Calipers for the front, which, on inspection, with Pistons removed, seem ok, I thought that if I obtained and assembled with new Pistons and Seals they would be quite serviceable. Thank you all for your advice. Def
  4. All of the components are original equipment. Update Whilst when tackling the right hand side, the short shaft and Bearings looked lubricated and grease was not apparent, when yesterday, I disassembled the Left hand side, the end of the longer shaft, and inside of the Outer rubber Cap were dry. Also, the Bearings on this Left hand side did have residual grease in them. Interesting too, the Brake pads (original equipment) on this side were also disintegrating. This answers the question about greasing. A second question is why have the Pads disintegrated, rather than just wearing down. Perhaps the accumulated effect of deep winter snow and then salt, in the Welsh valleys?
  5. Hi Guys I have a 2006 Defender County 90 and have so far coped with doing standard services since I bought the vehicle, from new, it now having covered approx 40,000 miles. During my latest service I noted that for some reason the Pads at the Rear right hand side had all but disintegrated for unknown reasons and the Disc has circumferential high spots. Those on the other rear are fine as are both fronts. It is necessary therefore to replace Discs and pads to the rear both sides. I accessed the forums and dug out sufficient information to give me the confidence to tackle this job. Armed with parts from Paddock Spares I started the job today. I am however concerned about the rear bearing lubrication. When disassembled, neither outer bearing, which came out easily, nor inner bearing, show signs of grease having been applied. However, some oil did leak from the area during disassembly. Can I assume that somehow, the oil that I put into the Rear Axle finds a way to these bearings and that I therefore need not pack grease to these Bearings? Your help would be appreciated. Thankyou. pgdef
  6. Hi A more thorough look this morning, at the sliding metal Shoes in the Adjuster mechanism, showed that I had assembled them the wrong way round. The Drum is therefore now reassembled and the job completed. Thank you to those who responded. Pantgwyn
  7. Hi I have fitted a new Handbrake Cable to our 2006 Defender 90 and connected it at the Parking Brake Drum. My problem is the refitting of the Drum. I started to fit it, getting as far as partially assembling it over the Shoes, aligning the 4 Back Plate Bolts and mating the Drum over the Bolts. At this stage the Drum was very tight, requiring a small lump Hammer to knock the Drum on over the Shoes. The Adjuster was backed off. I then disassembled the Drum. My concern was that if the centralisation of the Shoes, which should have been taking place to some extent, during assembly of the Drum, did not alleviate the tightness, there must be something wrong. I am also concerned, in my ignorance, of the impact of the Drum being tight when I then come to reassemble the Rear Prop Shaft to the Drum. Can anyone advise me? Thank you. PantGwyn
