  1. Thatnks i was thinking it may be the brakes binding, will try feeling them for heat, it is not going with a loud bang or click so fingers crossed on that one
  2. I have a 99 S Plate 1.8 three door, the freelander has been parked up since the beginning of the month due to a knee operation, my neighbour has moved it a few times for me to keep it running but said that when you go to pull away it feels like it is holding back, after about half a mile to a mile this clears and it drives fine, i today have been out in it to see if i am fit to drive (ie does it hurt to do an emergancy stop) and i have found this also it seems to rev properly but it seems to be struggling to get up speed, Before it was parked up it had just had new front discs and pads and also a service, Has anyone got any ideas.
  3. I have gone to do an oil service on the freelander today 1.8 98 S reg, and i have found that all the plastic covering etc is held on to the body with riverts also i have managed to see where the the sump plug and the oil filter are but is there an easier way to get to it all, or is it a case of grin and bear it, and remove everything
  4. Please can anyone tell me where abouts the Fuel Filter on the 1.8 k series engine is and also please can someone tell me how i go about changing the pollen filter i am lead to believe it is in the passenger footwell area, am i right in thinking i am going to have to start undoing lots of screws etc
  5. Well i have today cleaned the car and using the Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner i have done both the roof and bumpers. This stuff looks great and doesnt half bring the faded roof back to a nice black finish, i will see about posting some pics later.
  6. I currently have a 1.8 on a 99 S plate and i would be more than happy to have another one, i am even looking for a commercial derogitive to use as an off roader / medical response unit
  7. Has anyone used anything like back to black to bring the removable roof back to colour as mine is starting to look very faded and dulll.
  8. Not sure what you can do before restarting it, but surely you could be looking at getting insurance company or the police to be held responsible due to the state / condition of the car having it been stood for 2 years as i would imagine that things like the brakes will all be seized and need replacing, the oils will all need to be changed etc and therefore it could become uneconimical to recover for you that is
  9. I had that thought but then considered it must be for some sort of add on, how boring
  10. Can anyone give me any ideas as to what this is on the car.
  11. think i am going to end up stripping it all down and just have to start replacing things little but by little but, think i will spray everything down with WD40 at the weekend and see if that does anything, With regards to holding it down a bit that doesnt work as the lock just doesnt move although the motor is working, as it will lock which is frustrating
  12. I have looked further in to this today and i am looking for ideas as to what to look at replacing as hoping to get this done at the weekend. The car is a 3dr 99 freelander. When you press the remote locking you hear the motor but the door pin does not move, you have to use the key to unlock. When you press the button inside the car again the door won't lock or unlock, it does however lock with the remote. HAs anyone experienced this or got any ideas as to what the problem is. Thanks in advance
  13. Was thinking about parcel shelf to mount a couple of speakers justt the prices of them to then cut it up
  14. Thanks thats what i thought that the rollar ones only fitted the 5 door model and like you say there are not a lot of rigid ones around a reasonable price. Think i might have to consider how hard it would be to make one with a bit of ply and sounding carpet
  15. I have a 99 S plate 3dr freelander. The front drivers door was working on the central locking but has now stopped. It wil stil lock off the remote but won't open. Has anyone any ideas and how easy to sort. The second question is with regards to the front speakers does anyone know what size they are as hoping to try and replace them. Lastly i have been looking at the load covers for the freelander can anyone tell me if the rollar one will fit and if not whre to get a reasonably priced rigid one or has anyone attempted to make there own. Thanks for your help Si
  16. Doesnt look to bad, especially when you are on a budget, me thinks i might be looking at this
  17. Gald to hear you got it all sorted, thats certainly some choice for a recovery truck
  18. someone really lost a bet when they bought that. Did you pet his dog while he sorted out his white stick
  19. All, Having read posts about balnking this off i have tried to do a search for what this is and so far have come up with some many replies i thought i would ask than trying to confuse myself. I have a 300tdi and would like to know what the EGR valve is, how i find it (if not blanked off already), what does it do and what does it do blanking it off.. Thanks all
  20. Looks nice, see you have already started making your list of wants, this will only get bigger
  21. Having read a lot of replies by both people who use the forum, moderators and Admin, i certainly did not realise just how big this forum is. I initially agreed with others about maybe looking at O/T section but from the replies and reasons i would agree an OT section is not the best of ideas, havng looked more in to the general chat sections on forums it does show how mailicous / bitchy / unhelpful people can be and that to me puts me off those forums. This is a great place to read / post and like many others on here and i am sure others that are still to find this forum, i have found a great deal of advice / help / ideas and have gone from nil mechincal experience or knowledge to having the confidence to save my money and do the work myself. Guys keep up the good work it is appreciated
  22. I can pass near to Notts if needs, only about 10 miles off route back to lincoln
  23. Monday 21st April i will be going from Lincoln to High Wycombe and then back again. I will be on a tight timescale but could pick things up if it is not to much of a devation
  24. Still speak to the above mentioned guys as they are always looking for enterprising ways, especially if it means a bit of beer pennies down that way
  25. thought you were after some covers not tv shows. (sorry pointless part of post) Not that i know any suppliers, have you tried talking to the nice chaps that inhabit the island for 4 month periods. (RAF), one thought i would have for you if you are involved in any way with the base down there, you could try survival equipment guys down there and see what they could fabricate for you. not sure what they would charge, some beers and choccy biscuits perhaps
