  1. Actually not even that OT! One of the admins was putting an LS into his P38, and piggybacking the LS ECU on the GEMS, so the rest of the car wouldn't freak out. I was trying to convince him the car barely needed any feedback from the ECU, and it would be trivial to just connect those wires to the LS ECU. Not sure anymore about the exact interactions, but I remember telling him to get his head out of his behind, and then I was suddenly banned We've since proven with @Escape's MS that it is indeed perfectly doable (even though it isn't running in the current car yet, it has worked in a different car). And also why I'm convinced integrating something like the Haltech shouldn't be too difficult. Just need something that meets all of my requirements, and isn't going to be worse than what I have now.
  2. Not in much detail, but at a quick glance it doesn't really wow me with better features. I remember him from rangerovers.net (before I was banned). Could be worth asking. Or if someone just knows what damn CAN messages the autobox ECU needs, I'll just build a translation module... over the years I've even amassed several CAN-speaking devices, just never got around to doing any sniffing.
  3. Said clarification: I guess the secondary stage is what we would want, then. I sent this response: We'll see what they say. They usually respond the next day, I'm guessing timezone related due to them being in Australia
  4. As interesting as the discussion is, I doubt Speeduino will work for my requirements, as it's missing most of the functionality I want.
  5. Yeah, I think I'll ask for some clarification on that.
  6. I explicitly asked about it in my e-mail, and they didn't say no to it anyway And according to their specs, they can do both out of the box.
  7. Reviving this idea... I've been in contact with Haltech support to talk about this. According to them, none of my requirements should be an issue, BUT Apparently tuning the gearbox control isn't easy (guy said 2-3x harder than fuel map tuning), and really should be done by an experience tuner on a rolling road. Is it a terrible idea to say "how hard can it be?" and do it anyway? The other option is to make something that speaks CAN, and talks to the stock gearbox ECU, which sounds like a pain in the butt (but on the other hand, should be fairly straightforward once you know what needs to be said).
  8. That looks fine, yeah. How are the input splines on the gearbox? I'm inclined to agree with @steve b that the clunk is unlikely to come from inside the R380.
  9. Stick it inside? Or in the middle of the car, like an Ibex, and only have the rope running towards the back.
  10. You can get lightly damaged metal roof panels for very cheap. Screw those onto a wooden frame that you tie down with pegs and cables (or other suitably heavy things).
  11. Any faults logged? If it's refusing to start the compressor for a reason, that reason should result in a fault.
  12. Indeed probably the ECU deciding to not run the compressor, then. Do you have an EAS cable to connect a computer to the car?
  13. It is. On the other hand, I can understand not wanting to bother with selling stuff second hand. Even giving it away for free usually brings out the idiots...
  14. Did you indicate that plate while rotating the table at all? Probably doesn't matter much for what you're doing. Agreed, quite amazing.
  15. Now add an unhealthy dose of ADD to that, and suddenly you're two weeks into rearranging the shelving in the shed, because you saw that something didn't quite fit where it was. And that socket will glare at you, uninstalled, for at least 3 months, until you finally put it in and think "why have I been putting this off?"
  16. I think IIDTool is the most popular one? Not sure, I don't have a D4, but have heard members on here talk about it.
  17. Then I'd look into the throttle pedal and such. Finding someone with the right diagnostic gear to see live values of what's going on will probably be essential for this, if you don't want to just throw parts at it.
  18. Maybe someone swapped in an infotainment module from a car with the backup camera, and didn't reconfigure it? You'll probably need to find someone (dealer or specialised mechanic) that can configure the module to disable the backup camera.
  19. Looking good, hope you had fun. I'll keep the "I told you so" to a minimum I wonder how easy/hard it'd be to make a fairing that fully closes up the gap between the Ibex and the trailer, would need to be rubber or at least somehow movable for turning. But yeah, a big wing like some box vans have would probably help a lot: I've considered it for my trailer as well, it's just such a massive air brake.
  20. Precisely. The temp switch is inside the pump, though. But I do believe it can be fixed. Or bridged...
