  1. I've broken my 5th gear on my disco TD5 :-( after 220000 miles of very heavy towing at high speeds... Someone has offered me a R380 from a disco 300 TDI. Can I use this gearbox on my TD5 or should I look for a TD5 one?
  2. it sounds strange to me to, but I don't know what can cause the problem. I drive 255/85's but I had these on the 200 also so this shouldn't be the problem. I've taken my EGR off last week and have put silicone hoses on it. I've put a new airfilter in (it had a K&N filter, so that should have been ok also). Next step I could flush my intercooler, maybe that's stuffed. Or I could have my injectors tested, the car has done 150000 miles. What's a normal life span for 300 injectors? But if these are causes of the low mpg I would expect a lot of black smoke, and there is very little..
  3. I have a 'new' Defender 110 300 TDI Stationwagon to replace my older 200TDI stationwagon. My 200TDI gave me an average of 30MPG, I did expect to get the same figures from my 300TDI. I was suprised to find my 300 uses a lot more diesel, I have to drive like my grandmother to get 21MPG. Is this normal? My 200 was also a lot faster, had a topspeed of around 85 MPH, my 300 only gets to 75, and slows down uphill. Engine sounds wonderfull, doesn't smoke on startup, no puff of smoke. Only when driving under maximum load or with a trailer there is a little black smoke.. If this is normal it may have been better to have kept my 200, although the rest of my new car is in much much better condition.
  4. The doors you mention are standard late 1984/ 1985 doors. --> One piece, lift up handle, wind down windows, galvanised (fake) cappings. I see them all of the time, in fact I have 2 or 3 cars with these door here right now...
  5. I have the same problem on my D2. I haven't been able to open my rear door for months now. Pulling, pushing, cleaning, oiling, nothing helps. My only roption was to hammer the mechanism to a million pieces, because you can't remove the mechanism with the door shut. When the door was open I checked everything again, cleaned everything again and when I was sure everything was OK I put in the (very Expensive) new lock mechanism. Checked it a lot of times, and yes it would open and close and lock without any problems! One week later, nothing :-( I have no ideas anymore, don't want to destroy the mechanism again to open the door and pay a lot for another week of comfort..
  6. TD5!!! I run a Land Rover company and own a lot of Land Rovers myself. My DII TD5 is by far the most reliable car of them all. It has done well over 200000 miles now, all with a heavy trailer (I use it to tow cars through all of Europe) and it is driven hard. I haven't had a single problem regarding reliability with it. Even at this mileage the wheel bearings are the original ones and still good, shocks, bushes, exhaust, clutch, everything still original. The front shocks need to be replaced now, I have a set of OME shock ready. My rear door won't unlock anymore, that is the ONLY problem I've had with this car in 200000 miles. Doesn't use a drop of oil, doesn't leak a drop of oil, doesn't have any backlash in transmission, doesn't rust or corrode, doesn't leak inside. I service it every 15000 miles. I own a nanocom, but you don't need it for regular service. It doesn't have any error codes. I'm sure it will go for another 200000 miles without major problems. I've removed the EGR. Seats are getting a little softer now, it were the best seats I've ever had in a car. All my defenders are OK also, but they all have some smaller defects now and then. TD5 heads can be skimmed without problems..
  7. Good choice! The TD5 is definately the best engine Land Rover has ever produced. I own a DII TD5 with over 200000 miles, it has to work very hard; about 65000 miles a year with a 3000kg trailer, and I don't pay attention to speed limits. It doesn't use a drop of oil, the engine and gearboxes are like new! Never had any problems with this car. Also totaly dry on the underside of the car, not a drop of oil. All electrics also troublefree. I also own a 2000 110CSW 300TDI. Also a good engine, but a lot less power, and less efficient on fuel. It has done 150000 miles, serviced religiously but the engine doesn't look as clean anymore as the TD5. Also had a lot of smaller problems, turbo, turbo hoses, some leaks, some small electric problems, but, except for the turbo, nothing major. Another big plus for the TD5: No cambelt to worry about!
  8. I've had paddock spacer for ages and lots of miles, never had any problems with them, everything still tight.
  9. Since a few days my R380 jumps out of 5th gear sometimes. But it only does this when driving with a heavy trailer and braking on the engine on very long downslopes. Any ideas what can cause the problem>?
  10. I would also like to buy your 1983 110. if you want to sell it: info@one-ten.nl
  11. How can you tracked someone by his numberplate (unless you're a police officer). I only now a way of finding some details on a car but not more then that. It always anoys me when someone blanks his numberplate before putting in on Ebay, that way I can't see if the engine change has been recorded on the logbook or the date of first registration..
  12. How can you see it's the 24 volts version? I have a 12 volts D1LC and I think it looks exactly the same?
  13. my nanocom reads my remapped disco without any problems, i have just put un a new ecu and ysed my old map..
  14. I've had 30mm spacers on my 110 for about two years now. No problems with wheel bearings and a major improve in handling on this one....
  15. I drove 6000 miles through Morocco last summer with my wife in our disco td5 with roof top tent. Didn't do any preparation to the car, only serviced it before I took off. Normal all terrain tyres. Not a single problem, only friendly people, although a lot of people ary trying to get money or presents from you. We got off the tarmac a lot, only got a little scared once when whe got lost in the riff (?) mountains with very very narrow tracks, and all you could see around us where fields of marriuana with men with big rifles in it. We didn't dare to stop at first, but because we would have to ask directions we stopped eventually. Even the men with rifles where friendly and offered us some fruit.
  16. OK thanks, I did look on wikipedia but didn't scroll down far enough
  17. Yes, that's what they told me, but they said its a 3300, and as far as I know that's a six cylinder...What sizes are the four cylinders? Are they any good?
  18. Hi can anybody tell me which engine this is? all I now it's a diesel..... thanks!
  19. I spilled some oil on my seat last week, not as much as you did, but big stains... I sprayed 2 cans of brake cleaner on the seat. stains are gone now.....
  20. the strange thing is that when I remove the oil filler cap, there is very little breathing there...And even in very cold weather the engine start very good, So I think it still has a good compression..
  21. I always buy these from paddocks. 23,50 is nothing! making this yourself takes a few hours if you want to achieve an original look.... It's very easy to weld in, location isn't too critical on spring seats...
  22. I didn't know you could remove the panels without taking the roof off. I want to replace my rotten bodycappings with galvanised ones but have been postponing this because I did not want to take the roof off...
