  1. The brown and white wire goes to a fuse on the interior panel and then the other side goes out to a 'brake check' relay.
  2. Neill, can you just confirm something for me please?? I'm not familiar with vehicle electrics and want to make sure i'm not doing something stupid. Having compared this against the actual vehicle, it looks like I need to join the main feed from the engine compartment 20amp fuse (brown wire) to the brown and white wire before it goes into the interior fuse box. I then take a wire from this new connection point straight upto the light switch. This means then that the new light switch sees 24v but doesn't get the load because the power goes out through the relay before going out to the actual lights?
  3. Thanks Neill, thats saved me a hell of a lot of effort. I ended up stripping mine back to the bare chassis. Its going to be rebuilt on a new aluminium frame base utilising as much of the original body as possible.
  4. No, its not. I've had a really good look, i've got the lower dash off and the whole area exposed.
  5. Anybody know how to convert the 6-way light switch to civilian spec? All the info i've found suggests there should should be normal spec wiring plug hidden behind the dash. I've got the whole dash out and can't find the 3 pin connector.
  6. Cheers. 1000kgs limit for SVX rims for any future googlers.
  7. Does anybody know the weight limits for genuine SVX alloys? I want to fit them for a single road run of less than 10 miles to investigate a steering wobble and rumbling noise on my Wolf ambulance (i 'think' the original G90s have gone square). I had it weighed last week at 2560kgs. Is it safe?
  8. They've sorted me with a 'Motor Home' policy now for another £25 that accepts the sizes. Do you think you'll ever use the 3800kgs? Its really easy to downplate, might make some things easier in the future? The DVLA aren't interested like they used to be and you can buy a new genuine parts VIN plate stamped as required for about £35.
  9. Neill, I think it was you that mentioned you'd got insurance through Heritage? Did you take out their breakdown cover?
  10. My V5 came through today, 1 week to the day after posting it. Thanks for your help Neill. Bobtail, can you tell me what you've done to convert to 12v? I want to do the same.
  11. Cheers Neill. So best case scenario i've got 1000kgs to play with, worst case ~800kgs. I still plan to raise the roof on mine so i've got a little weight in the extra framework but using Alu should keep the weight down. I think the biggest challenge is to try and retain the aesthetics. Replacing the edge sections with like for like will be impossible unless I can find somebody scrapping a body. Do you have any pictures of your conversion so far? Just incase anybody else needs one, the V55/5 came through in 4 days. I ordered one on-line and another through the call centre on the same day. Both came on friday.
  12. Neill, can you tell me what the unladen weight of yours is (i seem to remember yours might be a bit heavier than mine)? I don't need it for registration, i'm just interested to know what sort of payload i'm going to have. I'll take it to a weighbridge once its registered and the nasty weather is over with! Cheers, Ian
  13. The body roll is really noticeable, even slow speed maneuvers result in hilarious amounts of body roll. It just didn't feel overly 'safe'. I think the bulk of the roll is in the suspension rather than tyres but you make an interesting point. Is there any opinion on spacers? I'm normally VERY anti wheel spacers, there's some serious weight in one of these. Foundry got back to me and confirmed it will fit so once i've got the thing on the road properly i'll give it some serious thought.
  14. Foundry4x4 are the reps for X-Eng. I've asked the question.
  15. Sorry. http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=112409 Its the '4 times stiffer' bit thats got me thinking rather than the ability to unlock.
  16. Link below to somebody that's fitted the X eng bar. http://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=65_1759&product_id=76 When i'm feeling better i'll nip out with a micrometer.
  17. Any idea what the standard one is? Some googling suggests its 28mm standard? Am sat here in agony after a dentist visit so have time on my hands for a change!
  18. RE the V55. I've ordered 1 via the online request and 1 from the call centre. I'm in no rush for it, I still have the old camper so no plans to use it till its camper converted next year (ish). This looks like a serious bit of kit but no idea if its actually heavier duty than the standard bar. http://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=65_1759&product_id=76
  19. I'll give them another call and see. They're sending me a V149 as well, some guidance notes apparently. First time i've driven it today, have you given any thought to an up-rated rear anti-roll bar? Its not half rolly-poly!
  20. Straight through the MOT no advisories. Being a 3.5 ton gross weight (and going to be registered as a camper) means it gets a standard MOT apparently. Shame they've documented it as a 110 though..... I've called the DVLA (twice today, so helpful) who say its not an issue providing the VIN number is right and the MOD654 lists it correctly. Neill, when you sent your insurance note off, did it have the VIN number listed on it?? My insurance certificate only lists my name.
  21. Thanks a lot, mega useful. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
  22. I used Heritage for my Wolf Ambulance, a chap called Frank. Really easy to deal with.
  23. This info is really useful. Any idea how you get a number to call the DVLA? I've trawled their website and it just won't give me a number!! I've got an MOT booked on mine tomorrow and need to get the forms sent out. Any tips on filling in the V55/5?
