  1. My thermodyne dragun proved to be useless as it has a built in compressor with no water trap and died after 3months (got money back) Anyhow even though my business is engineering and fabrication I couldnt stand the idea of spending 1000s again so I bought a cut 50 off the bay from mec solutions for £260 .I went to his workshop and he indeed uses one in industrial use so I took the jump. My verdict is: cuts as good as any, cheaper than a couple of bottles of acetylene, consumables cheap as chips. the down side: looks fragile, no low air cut out so if you forget to turn on the compressor it will destroy a tip and electrode and most importantly no deadman switch/contact when you take of the shroud. If he honours the warranty I have cheap cutting for a year,if not and it brakes in a month bloody expensive cutting!!
  2. Bought a spare dewalt 4 1/2 grinder today. Choose a dewalt one as my other has so far survived nearly ten years of pro use. New grinder overheats in ten minutes, on further investigation is says on the id tag underneath germany in small letters made in prc!!. Local Mac dealer pops in to try and sell me junk and he proudly explains "we" as in stanley have bought dewalt and have moved bulk production to china" and probably lowered specs me thinks. How long will this carry on for , its going to be impossible to buy anything any good.
  3. Im not guessing ive done it from landrovers to 100t special types The problems are: once commercials are forced to iva instead of sva I doubt if a non tdci defender can pass If you wish to re plate over 3500kg abs is required(not compulsery on plg) this is something im trying to overcome at the moment(six wheel HYDRAULIC abs ,not common 6 wheel air abs) This is what killed off the 6x6 ibex. In a nutshell engineering easy VOSA pain in the ass
  4. Id love a 130 I meant a 6 wheel 130 with a final wheelbase of 170"(im building one now)is getting long for the poor steering lock, though a 130 is easier to 6x6 due to there being more room to fit a splitter box.
  5. Unlike western I convert defenders to 3 axle and there is no diference between starting with a 90 110 or 130 as the metal work starts behind the rear axle and unless you need the length 130/170 defenders are no pleasure to drive. If your going to do the work do it now while defenders can do sva and not iva as when that comes in it wont be easy to comply with 2010 specs ie you will have to fit defender puma dash seats etc
  6. As its commercial the defender can still go for sva. I have a 6 wheel cummins landrover and im trying to go to 4.3t hgv at the moment having submitted brake calculations. A friend of mine built the 6x6 discovery which was in lrm a few months back, being a passenger ,not commercial he had to submit to a iva test which the car has to comply with 2010 regs it failed on mudflaps, roof gutter, centre box having exposed hinge even the standard 98 disco seats have failed on rear padding!!!! pattern part front grill, being not genuine they even pulled down the dash and condemed the factory standard wiring!!!!!!!!!! Defender and iva ......wouldnt like to try
  7. Hello can anyone help, im trying to locate the radius arms for a front salisbury or the tec data so I can make some thanks for any reply
  8. I may do a thread if people are interested, have tried on a "clique" forum, but it got ignored while they patted each other on the backs for riveting on a bit of cheq plate.
  9. I did have a splitter box to give two outputs, though this is not on the car at the mo since fitting the cummins(no room!)I have designed a twin output transfer box which I may make myself(I own engineering firm)though a company involved with landrovers is interested in the design. The problems with the ashcroft/ foley unit is the price, use of week rover axles and custom parts in the event of failure.
  10. back when I was a automotive design engineer kero was used to accelerate component wear on the test rigs(high speed) The td5 discoverys found favour with usab personel due to its tolerence of kero.A customer of mine eventually destroyed both his 2002 landcruisers injector pumps(two cars not two pumps!)with the stuff
  11. I run a cummins 6bt in my selfbuilt 6x6 landrover using a zf 5-42 box
