Not exactly - the shim has a specific sealing resin on one side to give microsealing.

The latest CHG sold by Land Rover is of the MLS (multilayer steel) type, and comes with a seperate steel shim which fits between the head gasket and the head, to stop the bore eyelets eating their way into the cheese-soft heads.
