  1. Not sure but the outriggers are in the same position I think and that is going to be the main mount
  2. Hi all Just been on Fleebay looking at a set of rock sliders for a Disco 1 which I bid on (after an evenning in the local), they state they are off a 5 door and mine is a 3 door. I didn't win them at the time but have since received a second chance offer and (being more sober now) I'm thinking about it. My question is :- how different are they, would they be modifyable? They are the type that bolt to the outriggers and the sills and they price is reasonable. Any help would be VERY welcome
  3. Interesting method using exploding duck oil to remove it but do you think it was a wise move telling Nige with his reputation! Wouldn't be much good if the diff was still in the vehicle though, that high velocity lump could cause some expensive holes!
  4. Heat, heat and then a bit more heat before you use the slide hammer, that was my discovery on both occasions when I had to take mine out. On the second occasion I didn't put it back in, I changed to a prop with UJ's both ends.

  6. Just a thought, when my central locking plays up (as it does from time to time) I press the unlock (or is the lock) button 3 times quickly and it seems to reset itself and behave for a while longer. Can't remember where I heard about this but it seems to work. Here's hoping!
  7. I sense another 'How to' coming to a forum near you!
  8. Hi What I'm looking for is the part number for the rear diff flange which can be fitted to a 300 TDi Discovery so I can fit a 200 TDi propshaft to it. The one I have taken off is a multi-spline jobby but the spare ones I already have on some old 10 spline diffs has only 4 splines . Also if any of you nice people has a spare I could perhaps purchase that woiuld be cool! The one I took off is on the left so I need another one with a similar spline but with 4 bolts for a standard propshaft. Thanks in advance Andy
  9. Hi All I'm having a bit of a clearout and came accross an old inlet manifold. My problem is I can't remember what it came off, it's either a 2.5NAD or a 2.5TD, can anybody help. While we're on the subject of a clearout, if any of you members are interested in any of my items on e-blag just message me though this site and I'm sure we can come to an arrangement. My ID is Andy_W_1966. Now the interesting, trying to get thew pic to load ........ here goes ..... Hope you can se it! Cheers Andy
  10. Rich, I presume you can open the boot the same way by holding up the lock button? You could probably open it by holding the key in the unlocked position but if you use the 'zapper' it returns to the locked position before you can open the door. Sounds like the internal lock spring, they are available on e-bay but Landrover want to sell you a complete lock assy. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-Discovery-door-lock-springs-3-door-set-/200655395280?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb7fe59d0 The kit comes with a good set of instructions on how to fit As for a link between the two problems it is likely that they just wore out at the same rate. HTH Andy
  11. I replaced mine with one of the back of a Defender, much cheaper, just needed a little modification.
  12. Thanks Phil, that settles it, it's a series 3 heavy duty steering kit. To be coming to the e-bay site near you shortly unless anybody wishes to make me an offer. PM me. Ta Andy
  13. Me again, just found the tape measure and it's 28 1/4 inches long with a Defender type thread in it so I'm thinking it may have been shortenned?
  14. Phil Thanks for that, does it state the thread too? And the thread for the Defender? Andy
  15. Western It's too short for the Disco too, my old steering setup on the 90 was from a Disco. I had thought that the Disco drag link was shorter than the Defender because of the different drop arm balljoint assembly but they are the similar and interchangable as far as I can see, I checked my mates standard 90. I don't know anybody with a series III to check that. Does anybody know if the threads are the same on the SIII and the Defender/Discovery/Range Rover Classic? Thanks for the info so far Andy
  16. Hi all Over the weekend I was having a rummage in the shed (in order to 'hide' some weekend acquisitions from SWMBO) and I came across a set of heavy duty steering bars and remembered that I'd bought them from Sodbury for my 90 years ago. Now here's the problem, although I was told they were for a 90 they didn't fit, the track control rod (between the axles) was fine but the drag link (box to N/S) was too short so they got put in the shed and forgotten about. I am now thinking that they may have been intended for a SIII, the threads in the bars are correct for 90 type TRE's but as I said the drag link is about 2 inches too short. It will just about go onto the vehicle but the TRE's only just go into the threads by a couple of threads. Could somebody please have a measure of the drag link on a SIII and let me know, also am I correct in my assumption about the TRE threads. Thanks
  17. As a matter of interest::- Don't know about the Defender but on my 300TDi Disco the glow light goes off after about 6 Seconds although there is still power getting to the plugs for about 12, don't understand the logic of this but I'm sure Landrover had their reason for it!
  18. Ah yes JB, I remember the topic now you mention it!
  19. This write up is for a D2 hedlight conversion but it would be similar. IIRC the front wings also need modifying. Andy
  20. Hi Just a quick thought, you havn't changed to fully synthetic oil have you? When my mate did his old and very worn 200TDi had the same problem, he was told by an adult somewhere that the oil was too thin and when it got warm it had the same syptoms. Could also be the pressure relief thingy in the oil pump. HTH Andy
  21. Hi all I used those LED strips for the interior lights fitted in the Alpine light cut-outs, got them off e-blag for 99p each plus £1:19 postage. When switched on they are brilliant, I had two per side to start with but went down to one as shown in the picture. The next job is to 'modify' a front interior light unit so that I can turn them off altogether when not required. The picture was taken in the dark with the flash turned off and once I took the two bulbs out of the standard interior lights it was just as good in the back. Just one gripe, I need to sort out some decent double sided tape to fix them in, they keep falling off! Will probably have to cable tie the ends to the panels too. Andy
  22. Hi I Rivetted mine without any problems with regards to the man fom the ministry and with an air rivetter it was so easy. I did speak to the tester beforehand and he was happy for me to do it that way, he said that as it was on a chassis there would not be a problem and that the reason it fails when rusty is basically due to exhaust fumes being able to enter the vehicle.
