  1. If you follow the thread, starting with my OP, you'll get the gist. The subject is not really a discussion on the merits & methods of rust prevention but an enquiry as to the services provided by a particular specialist. To that end my last post was simply an update of my experience thus far.
  2. As promised in my last post on the 28th August I can now update forum members as to my line of enquiry. Due to the sometimes confrontational attitude (by some) on this subject I'll confine myself to the facts alone. It will be ten weeks, come this Thurs, since my conversation with the proprietor & I've yet to receive any communication - as a result I've booked my RRC into a well known outlet in Eastern England (who require the vehicle for two days in order to complete the treatment & offer a courtesy car) for next March, which is their earliest available booking.
  3. I agree with the 'carry a step' opinions, just make sure that you don't drive off & leave it in the road. Wanting to keep my RRC original I removed the side-steps fitted by the previous owner & her indoors was not impressed, she's not infirm - just vertically challenged.
  4. That makes a change for a politician! Over here our lot are only too happy to embrace the theory that climate change is man-made & use that as an excuse to levy draconian taxes on vehicles with high emission outputs.
  5. I had a 2A lightweight years ago, interesting drive with a different engine sound (probably due to the bloody great fan) & the car felt taut compared to a civvy SWB. Only thing I really didn't like was how close the steering wheel seemed to be.
  6. Thanks for that, I'll take a look at the weekend. Glad the heater works, I agree bit's difficult to tell in warm weather but the project certainly sounds promising.
  7. Thanks for that, I'll work out some translations at the weekend.
  8. I'm no expert but I would have thought that if the chain had broken you'd get a thrashing noise. Don't go for a used (what you refer to as a LSD) VCU. They are not known for longevity & you will have no idea of it's condition until installed & tested on your own RR - believe me I speak from experience!!
  9. Just a bit! How's the market in your country for good 'eighties V8 RangeRover Classics?
  10. One has to wonder - if an extensively restored vehicle such as this can fetch such a price, what would an original example be worth? Or is it a question of original SPEC being the deciding factor.
  11. Slightly off-topic but the best heater I've ever known, back in the days when my hobby was WW2 military vehicles, was the standard-fit unit in a Dodge WC54 ambulance. Fitted to the lower bulkhead in front of the passenger (attendent's) seat it contained two fans, both speed-controlled by a stageless rheostat, one for the footwells & the other for de-frosting. It got so hot (only utilising the engine coolant) that the air flow would burn the passenger's legs & heated an (insulated) interior much larger than a 109's - & this was in the 1940's!
  12. That's a shame. I upped the agreed value on my '87 RRC by £1000 at renewal time this year & the underwriters accepted the increase without any change in the premium. Nice to get a result in this day & age.
  13. Auss may be the driest, but surely there will still be moisture in the atmosphere?
  14. What a let-down for it's (pre auction) owners, who were saying in the classic car press that it could reach £250k But then & again these dealers are always talking telephone numbers rather than prices, welcome back to the real world
  15. Fair comment 'Happy' - lets hope that nobody posts something offensive, as being considered a genuine person (as well as a cynical old git) I am well aware of how volatile this subject can be. I have no connection with any operator/outlet & all I'm aiming for is the opportunity to advise others, like myself, who want to preserve their vehicles but are not able/willing to do it on a DIY basis.
  16. Update #2 > Spoke to the proprietor yesterday & confessed that I was somewhat ambivalent towards the industry & would like the opportunity to view their operation before committing to a booking. We had a amicable discussion on perceived issues relating to certain operators within the industry & he agreed to contact me when his most local operation could facilitate my visit. Watch this space folks.
  17. I'm no expert but narrow tyres are considered the best choice for snow & mud. Many people retro-fit 235's on Range Rover classics but I stick to the original 205 spec on mine for the aforementioned reason, plus wider tyres result in marginally more strain on the steering & increased road noise.
  18. You & I are of the same mind AMB, plus in my case I'm not physically able to crawl around under motors these days. I've read good reports of Dinitrol so that's probably the route I'll take. My RRC was (seemingly) never off-roaded by it's two previous owners & wont be in my ownership, so no clag build up underneath. I'll post the results of my enquiries concerning this advert as I intend calling them after the Bank Hol. Thanks for all the replies folks.
  19. Update > unusual for no-one to post a single comment despite 228 views, have I offended people perhaps? Anyway I'm going to do my own research by 'phoning the number & getting the location of one of their outlets, as it's not too far from me, then I'll look at their operation myself. Should the main contact be reticent about giving me the address I will form my own conclusions!
  20. I found this to be true back in the days of owning old ex military trucks. It was a brave (or bolshy) copper who stopped one of these vehicles, as the owner probably knew more about the C&U regs appertaining to the age of his vehicle than the bobby! NB: I believe multi-tones are legal (but somewhat pointless) post '73 if the all the tones sound at the same time. Something to do with concern that multi's could be confused with those of emergency vehicles.
  21. Not strictly Landrover related but it's nice to see that the bloke nicked recently for playing the 'Dukes of Hazard' theme on his multi-tone horns (whilst conveying a bride!) has had the charge dropped. Apparently the cops that nicked him were unaware that these horns are in fact legal on a pre-'73 vehicle. Still, it gave the bride something to talk about on her wedding night - no lewd comments please gentlemen!
  22. Well said Snagger - & when you compare the petrol prices 'twix the two countries ......
  23. Forgive me for butting in, but don't you guys have a saying that ''there ain't no substitute for cubes'' & you are going to retro-fit a 2.5litre 4 cyl. diesel into something that (had it been designed in your country instead of the UK) would probably been marketed with (at the very least) a 289ci V8?
  24. +1 Visited the aforementioned V2 rocket site back in the 'nineties when I was into WW2 vehicles & used to go over for the Pas-des-Calais celebrations, convoys' stretching for 3km under police escort! Further down the coast there is a gun battery at Cap Gris Nez that has an amazing mural covering one whole wall, painted by the German troops who occupied the bunker.
  25. Sorry to return to this forum with a contentious subject but I keep seeing large adverts for 'Land Rover Waxoyl Service - 15 sites across UK' etc. Has anyone, especially in Essex, actually used this service & if so would they like to share their experience?
