  1. I use both crystals and gel but wouldn't really consider treating an entire chassis. I use it to treat small items with good success although I usually etch prime and then paint afterwards. Not had any reoccurance in the areas treated so far. And it works absolute wonders on rusty tools. For an entire chassis I'd say that you'd probably be better off getting it chemically cleaned and galvanised.
  2. Is there actually a single straight panel on the vehicle lol Actually is the chassis even true?
  3. Just speculation but I'd imagine that there's a few things going on including: Armies in war zones having preference on spare parts and as they're pretty active then I'd imagine they have a fair few replacements required. New owners for JLR probably means that they will re-negotiate purchasing deals to their preferential suppliers in line with their parent companies wishes, therefore leading to the wind down of old contracts etc. Build up by new suppliers will be taking time and I'd imagine that the above will be using most of the new stuff. The TD5 model is nearing the end of it's warranty period so in current economic climate JLR will be trying to keep it's working cash flow in a good state leading to pinching of their ordering systems. Not sure whether they work on a just in time basis or not but I'd imagine that they do try to keep stock at an absolute minimum. Also as the Defender in the state we know will go EOL in 2010 if my reading is correct they're probably gearing up for production of replacements such as the LRX etc As I say these are all speculation but would follow what many companies are doing in these tight economic times, including the one I work for.
  4. Nic, Those seats look excellent, did it take much modification to install them?
  5. I think your looking at the wrong source to find a pump that is to a similar specification as a ZF74, as Lars L pointed out I'd be looked at either US trucks or European commercial vehicles. The reason for the £200 price tag compared to that Audi pump is that most passenger vehicles just don't require pumps with the same characteristics and the ZF74 was not used on many if any Euro cars instead I believe it was specified for an industrial purpose. At 150 bar your at least above the MM minimum spec for pressure but at what sort of flow?
  6. I'd say have a word with first four who purchased Alfred Murray Ltd: http://4x4winches.com/index.php?page=zf74.htm
  7. I got a recent quote from Admiral for a multicar policy, as in October my parents are letting their motor trade policy go, and their response when my girlfriend phoned up to get a policy was that they don't even take into account bullbars and winch bumpers have little effect?? Didn't seem to be overly expensive for me to insure a 2003 110 TD5 aged 29 with 0 years NCB (named driver on a traders policy for the last 11 years) at about £650pa but then I'm comparing it to a policy which costs about £1800pa for my dad, mum and myself. I did think that £575 was a little high for one but when you consider that the likes of Paddocks etc sell a Heavy Duty Tapered End non winch bumper at £140 new it doesn't seem quite so bad.
  8. I've seen them them for sale from this web shop: http://www.4x4at.com/product_info.php?id=3891&cid=2&product_id=153 although there was one up on the bay earlier in the week but not sure what that made. Been looking into getting one myself as I like the bull bar look but the bolt on bullbar that I have may prove a little difficult to modify to a winch bumper and I think that the ARB bumper looks pretty well made. My only concern is whether it will fit a milemarker winch easily.
  9. I've always been taught that you shouldn't grip the steering wheel with your thumb inside for exactly that reason, as if you hit something hard enough no damper is going to stop the forces being transmitted through your thumb whether it's in perfect working order or not. One question I have in this regard is to self centering steering dampers, what sort of benefits do they offer for a road/expedition vehicles if any or are they just for challenge type vehicles?
  10. If it's a 59 plate then doesn't it have some manufacturer warranty? I'd be on the phone with toyota asap
  11. Since purchasing my 110 I've been trying to remove as many rusted parts and treat them to improve longevity. In my reading around the web I found this stuff: http://www.bilthamber.com/corrosionremoval.html Have used both the Deox-C, which is dissolvable in water and the Gel which is applied direct and they have worked really well at removing rust. Pieces can require a couple of treatments and do require overcoating soon after the treatment but 6 months down the line and I've not noticed any outbreaks or paint flaking. Here's a link to a thread on the Nissan 200SX owners forum where a chap uses this stuff to restore his car to better than factory standard: http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=283826&page=7
  12. From my reading on this forum I've seen people mention problems with a GKN overdrive unit and also another case where transfer gearing had been altered. Think the thread on here about it stated something like they only get cruise in fourth gear or something like that.
  13. If you have a Barclays Bank account and use internet banking then I'd suggest getting the free licence for Kaspersky. Nod32 is about the best for performance/detection with a pretty small footprint.
