A rock slider is just a length of box to protect the sill. A tree slider has a tubular rail projecting from the side of this to keep the body away from tree trunks etc.

Thanks les, that's jolly decent of you ! If round is best then I may well take you up on that If square is the stuff to use then it'll be out with my trusty hacksaw
Has anyone else done this or have an opinion ?

How best to go about this ?
Should I use round tube or box section for strength, I've seen both for sale ?
If round is best (it certainly looks better), can anyone bend a couple of bits of tube for me ?

Note though otchie, that the testimonials in this thread are referring to the original X-eng disc handbrake conversion not the poor quality replica made by Scorpion Racing.

Indeed it doesn't. It can also disappear over the top of your landy at 70 mph if you forget to latch it. Doesn't say that in the manual either
Also if you have it vertical and the wind blows it back down, don't try to catch it, it hurts afterwards The manual also failed to mention that.
These manual authors lack foresight in my opinion.
I have tried the above and can verify that they can occur

You either have the wrong thread between the captive nut / bolt or you have cross threaded the bolt in the nut.
Did you try the bolt in the nut before you assembled it all up ?

I've got a Mondeo fan, an X-eng thermostat and the fan is held on with cable ties to the rad frame. Excellent set-up that keeps the Tdi nice and cool off-road.
Don't go through the rad with your ties because in a relatively short time you will have a leak.

I'm using 50mm2 because I got it for free and it's been fine for the last year or so. Can't really see that going up to 70 mm2 is going to make a difference unless someone is selling it cheaply.

John, I made mine out of old 3" fenceposts and a couple of sheets 3/4" ply (1 1/2" thick then) for the top. Job done and cheap as chips. Mine is attached to the wall but you could make a free standing one.
