Thanks, I have cross drilled input gears in my transfer boxes, they're cheaper than gearbox output shafts π Mo -
Front diff to cope with the power of an M57
Mo Murphy replied to Mo Murphy's topic in The Differential & Axle Forum
Thanks for your feedback uninformed, I think the gearing will be spot on. The transfer box is from a 1992 Range Rover so should be up to the task and will get some Ashcroft attention before being refitted π I've seen some pictures of those diffs, fortunately my budget doesn't run to buying late parts and paying more money for cheaper parts isn't my thing π Mo -

Front diff to cope with the power of an M57
Mo Murphy replied to Mo Murphy's topic in The Differential & Axle Forum
Thanks guys, I do indeed have and intend to keep the earlier stronger CVs and hubs, so it'll just be a matter of presenting Mr. Ashcroft with one of my kidneys for some HD half shafts and drive members. Interesting and reassuring that a standard 24 spline diff should be up to the task. My thanks to you gentlemen Mo -
So I have an old 10 spline Front axle. I expect this will struggle a bit with the extra power. What do I need to do to make this stronger on a budget ? I accept this will need to be 24 spline and that I will need Ashcroft shafts to match the diff to the cvs but I don't really want to go to the expense of another locker or atb if I can avoid it. Any suggestions ? I'll be running a standard 220hp engine map and a 6 speed autobox with LT230. Mo

Well it was a while ago, 13 years ! IIRC we crossed to Ceuta drove south through the 3 Atlas ranges and down into Morocco. We did the dunes at Erg Chebbi, Todra Gorge, Cathedral Gorge, Cirque du Jaffra and other places that I can't remember. The Atlas Mountains and the cedar forests are truly magnificent ! I remember the begging by the children, pens and sweets mainly but for food by the small shepherds and shepherdess' high in the mountains. The other chaps went the following year too down the West coast though I missed that trip. Mo

I haven't seen a photo yet of the man who used to materialise out of the ground in the middle of nowhere with his rug and bits for sale, when you stopped for more than 15 seconds. Tell me he's still there ! π Mo

I've been there Maverick on several occasions and I only own one Land Rover product. I don't think my nerves would stand any more LRs without a nervous breakdown.

Fitting an ABS servo to non ABS system
Mo Murphy replied to Mo Murphy's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
@simonr hey Simon, I was thinking that more assistance at the pedal would help with firmer braking where I have to push harder on the pedal. @Northwards I know James did a conversion with a Discovery double diaphragm servo and Discovery master (as I now know Mike has also done) but I would rather use Defender parts. It would be nice if someone who has fitted the Defender double servo (and perhaps the pedal box as well if it was necessary) to a single diaphragm system could relay their experiences. Mo -
