  1. You seem to get a bigger splash with more agressive tyres! The Grenadier does the same thing, hardly surprising as it is similarly short nosed and high-riding. Slow down is the only really effective solution.
  2. One of the places I have used for my LR110 and LR90 is Colin Stokes, County Mechanical Services 4x4, +44 1664 454918. +44 7968 963349 Manor Farm Yard, Station Road, John O'Gaunt, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE14 2RE The completed work is really good but he is a shocker for not answering the phone and long term projects are not really his bag. Better for projects and happier with old vehicles is SJP Automotive, (Simon), Unit 2a Digby Drive, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 0RQ, +44 1664 410929, +44 07554 247693. It will be 2-6 weeks before you can get a space there.
  3. Yes it would, C or C1. In the UK, you would be restricited to the Commercial speed limit, (like my N1 Grenadier is now), but not much else.
  4. As I implied earlier, I expect Ineos Automotive will sharpen their game when selling the Grenadiers becomes harder! It would not be too hard to get HMRC to accept the 2 seat Station Wagon as a commercial or to replate any model to 4.5T MAM.
  5. The ND should not qualify as a commercial for the HMRC on the same basis as the Grenadier, but there is a negotiated concession for the "Commercial" ND. (it is too heavy and has too small a payload). There is nothing like a bit of political arm-twisting, notwithstanding the New Defender is not built in the UK. If Ineos Automotive get their act together, the 2 seater Grenadier Commercial should be classified the same way as the LR 110 Commercial, (but don't hold your breath). As for the love, it is just too new and warrantied so far. Getting technical data out of JLR is worse than pulling teeth and like the Grenadier, we don't know what they will be like to maintain 5 years out of warranty.
  6. It will be interesting to see how long Live Promotions can keep it alive without the publicity and momentum from the defunct magazine. I don't like giving the Manners family money and I am not a fan of Live Promotions, so the site conflicts me; I only live 10 miles away and have done so since 1986. It is only the third time I have visited the site.
  7. I turned up on Sunday with my Grenadier full of stuff for 4x4 Response UK and delivered it to the West Midland 4x4 Response stand. No tarring and feathering - not many comments at all, although the person directing traffic seemed to want to add me to the Defender parking. There were a lot of galvanised chassis on display from multiple companies. I was also delighted to see that bulkheads now seem to be available, albeit at a price.
  8. The aftermarket is adding to the Grenadier Gucci kit list - a pop top.
  9. It could be that they are struggling to get someone to quote - post Brexit getting transport costs can be a bit of a pig.
  10. Certainly, on my Grenadier, reversing without a back-up camera would be an exercise in blind faith. In a traffic jam, anything much smaller than a modern Mini queued neatly behind me is invisible, both too low and too narrow.
  11. The mechanical lift pumps are never impressive performers even when working. When the pump is off the engine, if the pump will give suction when the lever is operated, the pump is probably OK. Are you confident that the pipework to the tank is clear? If there is a blockage, the lift pump will not overcome it. Are the filters OK for the same reason? As the quality of lift pumps is not great, the electric solution may be the better one long term.
  12. If you want the paint to stick, you really need to get to bare metal. Can you find a metal blaster near you? Sand blasting will remove all of the paint and rust in one go, but you will need to get it fixed, (you will be surprised how many holes will appear), and painted before it starts to rust again.
  13. It looks like a diode fault - it will not be long before the light never goes out! You may be able to change the rectifier pack and not the whole alternator; how tired is the whole alternator?
  14. Thanks, @stevebus, there is much to get angry about; ULEZ is a nasty mixture of popularism, opportunism and being seen to do "something". (And now trying to do nothing as it is unpopular with people whom the sitting party think would vote for them). I'm not even certain that it will make a huge difference with NOx and particulates in the Capital; more guesswork than targeted, measured policy.
  15. To answer the points in turn, I do not think the ULEZ is a proportional response either, but it was the one agreed by the Tories at the time, (and now they are back-pedalling as it is "unpopular": spineless bast**ds). As an asthmatic, I am bothered by particulate emissions and central London breaks local, national and international guidelines for atmospheric pollution. The French system is more targeted, their public transport is more integrated and it appears to me to be a better solution to the problem as defined by the laws as they stand. As @Stellaghost pointed out, I have sold two Land Rovers and bought a Grenadier; the Grenadier is Euro6 and exempt from the ULEZ requirements around the UK. A Tesla will not work for me as it cannot tow enough. The most useful thing anyone can do is disengage from consumerism and buy much less of higher quality and keep it for as long as possible. I'm hoping the Grenadier will be around for me for 20 years+. As I had the LR110 for 18 years and it was not new then, I do not see that as unreasonable. Save your anger for spineless politicians who fail to understand that their self interest should come last in their deliberations.
  16. The French Crit'Air system has little to do with CO2 greenwashing and more to do with NOx and particulates. Think of it as a less invasive ULEZ scheme and it seems almost proportional.
  17. "Too invasive" - the French take personal data very seriously and are currently having a go at FaceBook and Google. The UK is rather lax in comparison, but then we do not have ID cards and no compulsion to carry personal ID.
  18. I've just applied on-line for a sticker for the Grenadier, it comes back as a "2". The current cost, including postage is £4.61, so I don't think the French are profiteering!
  19. Portals are easier on solid axles - this development has been followed closely by Sir Jim Radcliffe. The company is more famous for its work with G-Wagens, including portals.
  20. Who is your present insurer? What they are asking for is dumb and they are effectively refusing to cover you for theft, even if your LR was taken on a beavertail, where an immobilser would be useless anyway. Although a Toad alarm/immobiliser would probably fit the bill, an alternative insurer would probably be cheaper and more amenable. IMHO a tracker would be more use, so ask for a Heritage quote, (if they still have their tracker deal). Would a classic policy fit the bill? My Morgan is agreed value, unlimited mileage and business use.
  21. Looks like there is more than one Grenadier in Melton Mowbray; I saw this one between Potter Hill and Melton Mowbray yesterday. Also shows my dash cam in action.
  22. How tall is he? People over 6' seem to have more of an issue with the left foot hump. Setting the driver's seat more upright and higher than normal seems to help. I have no issue with it, but I am only 6' tall. Although I found an old Defender comfortable enough, I never got on with the Land Cruisers I drove; horses for courses, I guess.
  23. Australian Review - vs old Disco and a Ranger, with Robert Pepper.
  24. Apparently! Part of it will be security by obscurity, but no proximity keys and a modern immobiliser is a good start. The alarm and immobiliser is not Thatcham Class 1 and Ineos are being coy about why, (marketing cock-up, administration fail or technical boo-boo?) I expect it will be 18 months - 2 years before we get a better idea of the security of the Grenadier, most insurance companies are still guessing at this point.
