  2. hello all my 1992 3.9v8 manual has had a knock under the front i noticed there is a long pipi with fins on it running along the lower front of the radiator i have seen these before on a nother auto rangie i had i thought they were only needed to keep the oil cool in a auto not manual is this right im wondering if it has had a auto box origionaly then has had a manual box put in thanks steve
  3. right lads just an update when i put my new battery and starter motor off my 1985 v8 carbs rangie the 1992 v8 efi still did the same just a click no turning over so i put the starter moter that i thought was dead off the 1992 rangie on to my 1985 rangie and it started straight away so the starter must be ok so i have a starter motor off my old rangie on the newer one and a good battery so i can rule them out i tried jumping it off my old one like when i picked it up but still the same im not sure which is the starter relay im guessing by turning the ignition on and feeling for a click i have swaped these relays around with other yellow ones and that hasnt done anything but like i said im not sure i have the starter relay as the haynes manual and a workshop disk i have says they might be in a differant place i think that its on the right hand as your sat in the car panel next to the accelarator pedal im sure it must be something simple i even thought of the alarm but if it were that i dont think the starter would click any thought s ?
  4. there isnt a light on only when you turn ignition on befor starting i put a fully charged battery on it when i got home still the same ?
  5. thanks vougese i have just put a earth straight from the battery its just the same i also tried jumping the two nuts on the selanoid this used to work on my old transit but this didnt do anything one more thing when i went down tonight the battery had gone flat i dont know if this means anything its not even trying to turn the engine over i cant undersand how it startes when i picked it up with a jump start i wonder if its not getting the full power from the battery

  11. i think i might have found the problem when it was running i was checking the fule pipe and pump i could hear it judder so i knocked it a few times then it stopped but the car kept running longer than it has before so i will just change this before going any further with the wiring will let you know how it is when i have replaced it thanks steve
  12. thanks for the reply lads i think i will try a new starter relay and the other relay that sits under that one if i can identify it the other option i have is a spare dizzy i got with the spare engine i bought this one has the amp pack on the side like in the later ones i presume i can buy the legnth of wire that would come from the coil with the socket on to plug into the amp pack i have tried all the connections battary is new as is the spark plugs leads rotor arm and dizzy cap would it be a big job to swap the dizzy over for my spare to see if this would cure it thanks again steve
  13. there are the pics of dizzy cap on off coil and the alli box the coil wire runs into its the one with the in line fuse hope this helps
  14. no its not that one i think one of them is the starter relay other is the same shape match box size laid on its longest side 4 or 5 spade ends coming out of them if you take the dizzy cap of it looks like a normal contact one but where the points were its a black box small i think this is the pick up for the coil instead of the points opening and shutting but there is only 2 wires comming out of this box going to the coil the later ones had a amp on the outside of the dizzy i will try and put pics on thanks steve
  15. just a update i have changed the fuel filters in line and the one in the engine bay i checked the one in the petrol tank but it didnt have one there so all the filters are new the distributor on mine doesnt have the amplifier on the side mine is the first one i believe they started fitting with pick ups in instead of points but befor they started fitting the amp on the side i just have 2 wires going to the coil from distributor then from the coil 2 wires go back into the wiring loom one of them goes into a alli small box looks like a relay i have two of these behind my washer bottle can any one tell me what they are i can try replacing those thanks again steve
