  1. find a series 3 109 scrap tub, nick the cappings, cut to size and re weld. Send to be re galved if needed. Much better quality😀😀
  2. Last year I had a Bulkhead, 2 inner wings, 4 or 5 under tub supports, radiator surround, tub cappings and loads of other brackets (basically filled the back of a 130 ) galvanised for the grand cost of £80 something + vat.. I also paid maybe £50 to have everything that needed sand blasted before hand. Hope this helps
  3. I used old beer crates and bits of wood, just kept lifting one end, then the other until it all lined up, then pushed it into place
  4. Here's mine.. not galved, but a 30 year old chassis, blasted, 2 coats of primer and 1 coat of raptor.. probably outlast me, for about £600
  5. Not the best pic in the world, but I fitted a slick shift to my defender, and found by co incidence that the shorter throw let me fit a mud dash without cutting anything
  6. I've had the misfortune to see quite a few of these on the road lately, and from the back they are the ugliest thing , in my opinion , I've ever seen..even co workers who are not into land rovers have commented on how odd and out of proportion it looks. But what do you expect from a company who seem to have forgotten who there core customers are.. can you imagine a cherry picker mounted on that. or hauling a load of logs, or animal feed? Or maybe that's not the customers they want or need these days
  7. In total agreement with a lot of the previous posts, the radio advert for the new discovery talks about all the wonderful tech gizmos to connect you to Bluetooth etc, but makes no mention of off road capability at all By the way, it's also the most staggeringly ugly car ever produced, I followed one down the M42 today and couldn't get over how mind blowingly horrible it looks from behind From the same company that produces the F Type Jag, which is, I think, the best looking new car on the market I also believe that Special Vehicles are moving to a new site FWIW
  8. I've just used one of these to cut the rear cross member off my 110. Really impressed, I drilled a 70mm hole with a hole saw so I could see the wiring loom, and then went for it Dead easy to follow the cut line, and the blade was just long enough to cut the full width, although I did cut from both sides Lovely clean cut with no grinding or messing about after Only used 3 blades, but 2 of them bent Hope this helps someone cheers Rick
  9. just going through this with mine, I lost the key blade so bought an used ignition lock with two keys off e bay Tried to reprogram with britpart lynx, but it asks for an 18(?) digit code, whereas the code inside the key fob is a 6 digit I found a website that converts the 6 digit key no to a longer 16 (if I remember correctly), but still missing some no.s The advice from the supplier of the lynx was to take my logbook to a main dealer and ask them for the code, which was going to my next step, but not holding out much hope Hope someone can add a bit more to this Rick
  10. I think they were built by Lairds/Cammell Lairds on Anglesey.. I know I've seen pictures of them being tested on a local mountain Havant the Dunsfold collection have one
  11. Could it be the light switch on the steering column? Had a couple of these fail Rick
  12. Thanks rovernut. I think the extended towball is the way to go as I moved the fitted one down one set of holes, but it's too low really, it did just to move the trailer, but wouldn't like to use it with any weight on it. is the type approval needed because of the sls, because mine's been converted to coils. ( but only till I get round to refitting the airbags) Thanks again Rick
  13. just measured my 110 second row door, 30 inches, just above door handle. does that help
  14. Oh bugger.......that's one I hadn't thought of. Since its a 90, then obviously it falls under the newer regs.. Oh well , another grand plan out of the window never easy is it? Rick
  15. Thanks again It was really the series 2 headlights in grill look I wanted Suppose it will have to be a case of strip it down and see what fits Rick
  16. Thanks for your quick reply. Like I say, I don't know why I thought of doing this, just thought it would look good, and I've got series two body parts lying about. Don't suppose you know if the rad from the 90 or a series would be the best choice, if there is any difference? I suppose the best thing is to fit the wings and see what fits afterwards Thanks again Rick
  17. Hi guys, In the near future I need to take most of the body off my 90 to do some chassis work. I was wondering if, when I put it back together, I could use series 2 wings, front panel, bonnet, windscreen tub etc I was going to keep the 90 bulkhead, seat box and things The vehicle is an early 80s which has been fitted with a 200 tdi, so there seems to be plenty of space in front of the engine, but it looks like the power steering box would foul the radiator Has any one done this conversion before, don't even know why I want to do it, but thought it would look cool with a soft top for the summer Thanks in advance Rick
  18. Thanks guys for the quick answers It deffo looks like no. 6 I'll move the tow ball down to the lower holes to see if I can get the trailer to fit Could I replace that back plate with a Dixon Bate type off a 90, cos I got a spare one Thanks again
  19. Hi guys, hope someone can help me, First time on the discovery forum, normally on the defender one, but just bought a 52 plate disco. Tried to hitch my trailer yesterday, towball is on the highest setting of the two available, but just no space between the bumper and towball for the hitch. If I drop the towball down to the lower set of holes it looks as if the trailer will be a bit nose down. Anyone come across this before, Is there supposed to be a spacer between the ball and the back plate? Thanks in advance Rick
  20. Like this. A 90 tub won't fit, you really need to get a station wagon. I collected all the parts separately, which took a long time. Hope this helps
  21. As above really, most parts are station wagon including chassis brackets etc. not a difficult job if you can find the parts. I did one a few years ago, and did a write up,but it must be on an other forum. I'll try find it and post a link if you want, or feel free to contact me if I can help Rick
  22. Thanks for the replies. I couldn't see how they could be linked, so must just be co-incidence. I'll swap the tyres for another set and take it from there. Thanks again Rick
  23. Hi guys, I used my 110 yesterday (99 td5) for the 1st time in a while, and noticed that the clutch appears to be on the way out, ie not slipping but very little movement from disengaged to engaged. It may have been like this for some time, but as I was using it day in day out I may have got used to it. It has also developed a horrendous steering wobble, which as far as I can tell in the short distance I did before I chickened out, seems to occur at different speeds, revs, road surface etc. Could the two be linked, or just co-incidence? Hope someone can help Rick
  24. You and me both mate. If only he could have waited till next year.
