Hi everyone.
About 2 weeks days ago I topped up my Disco (1995) with a little oil up to between the marks on the dipstick. 60 miles and 2 days later the engine spluttered once on start-up in the morning and produced a huge puff of smoke. Since that morning it’s been smoking excessively.
When cold it smokes a bit on start-up and a little when it’s idling. Once I’ve driven for a few miles and the car is completely up to temperature it really starts to smoke. I can’t notice it when I am driving along but as soon as I stop in traffic and the engine sits at idle it produces a lot of white (with a hit of blue) smoke. When I begin to move off again it usually produces a huge cloud covering the car behind me. I haven’t noticed a difference in performance and it starts and runs fine.
I have read loads of posts about smoking engines but nothing which specifically says its worse when the engine is hot. It’s confusing me a little and it would be great if someone could provide a little advice for me.
This is my first Land Rover so each issue I have is new to me. I’m learning a lot about the car which is great fun but it is my daily drive so I’m a little concerned. The engine has done 120,000 and I have just changed the fuel and air filters which didn’t make any difference.
Pete
