  1. Thanks guys.... a great help! Lets get this car back on the road.
  2. I'm outside now in the snow trying to rebuild my swivels. One ball is badly pitted and the only spare I have is from an opposite side. Does anyone know whether the swivel balls are handed? They are ABS swivel balls from a 24 spline axle. Cheers all!
  3. Hi, I've read loads of posts about engine smoke but can't find anything that says it only gets bad after reaching operating temp. I was hoping that this may be a characteristic of a particular problem which someone could shed light on.
  4. Hi everyone. About 2 weeks days ago I topped up my Disco (1995) with a little oil up to between the marks on the dipstick. 60 miles and 2 days later the engine spluttered once on start-up in the morning and produced a huge puff of smoke. Since that morning it’s been smoking excessively. When cold it smokes a bit on start-up and a little when it’s idling. Once I’ve driven for a few miles and the car is completely up to temperature it really starts to smoke. I can’t notice it when I am driving along but as soon as I stop in traffic and the engine sits at idle it produces a lot of white (with a hit of blue) smoke. When I begin to move off again it usually produces a huge cloud covering the car behind me. I haven’t noticed a difference in performance and it starts and runs fine. I have read loads of posts about smoking engines but nothing which specifically says its worse when the engine is hot. It’s confusing me a little and it would be great if someone could provide a little advice for me. This is my first Land Rover so each issue I have is new to me. I’m learning a lot about the car which is great fun but it is my daily drive so I’m a little concerned. The engine has done 120,000 and I have just changed the fuel and air filters which didn’t make any difference. Pete
