  1. Washing soda purchased via Amazon prime so will be here tomorrow Ross - what is the purpose of the mesh? Just to aid desludging?
  2. Sounds great! I don't have any stainless kicking about but do have some rebar so was going to use that, was planning to arrange 6-8 rods in a circle around the edge of a plastic 45 gallon drum linked together with wire and then suspend the arms in the middle. Will any washing power do? What concentration? Do you put a battery on as well as the battery charger? I think all my chargers will need this to trick them into doing anything
  3. best to give it a quick clean off with the wire brush on the grinder first? I was tempted to galv them but I have got loads of stuff to get galved which is not ready and it is going to slow down the whole project. These are all pretty sturdy items so I think a through de rust and a good few coats of paint should see them ok for a long while. They are also just bolt on items so it is not a big deal to replace down the line if I have to. I really need this truck back on the road and need to balance what would be the absolute best way of doing it vs. just getting it done
  4. I realised I never came back to this thread. After getting it all together it was still difficult to start and breathing badly. I took the plunge and stripped it all back down again and popped the pistons out. A little bit of a pain to do as the front axle has to come off to remove the sump. What I found was broken piston rings! All the rings were replaced and it now starts easily and does not breath. I also gave her a little tidy up
  5. I did get a little further on Tuesday with the axles and suspension arms but I had a Transit clutch to do which held things up. Credit to people who manage to change a chassis in a weekend as it took nearly a day of swearing to get all the arms and brackets off the chassis and axles and get the bushes out. I am now left with this. I think I will have a go a removing the rust using electrolysis, partly because it will be working whilst I'm not there and partly because it seems like a fun thing to try!
  6. Unfortunately that good advice has come a little late...... That internal frame coating stuff looks excellent, if a little pricey. I will look into it, I wonder if I can find something similar in the UK with the same style of applicator
  7. Not a lot has happened over the last couple of weeks as I have damaged a tendon in my leg. Managed to get the body clear of the workshop yesterday and the running gear out ready for cleaning. Engine, box and axles off today hopefully
  8. Was a long while ago so could have been anywhere! Good work. I bought a 110 hi cap tipper in the end
  9. Sorry I really can't remember. It was on ebay
  10. lots of tractors and trucks like this and about time the car market did the same
  11. Good work! Lucky he let you change it - my experience is that there are two types of testers, and one of them would not have even entertained letting you do it! I used to like a feature my Iveco had for the emissions - it would not let you rev the engine past about 1200 rpm if it was not moving to stop you revving it hard from cold to get the air to build up. Also made doing the emissions test properly absolutely impossible for the testers!!
  12. This is what I was hoping before I bought my new chassis!!
  13. Yes I see no reason why not. Can't hurt to try either
  14. I had not thought of that. I have painted it all and will just clean a small area for each earth point
  15. Watching with interest as mine hasn't worked for ages. When I took the wing off I found the motor was seized solid A new motor is £90!!!😲
  16. Interesting point! I hadn't planned to but will welcome people's thoughts and ideas!
  17. Ironically this is a very similar concept to the 4x4 Iveco that popped up in the new Defender thread! British Leyland ahead of their time again!!
  18. Personally, if it has a 200tdi in it I would put exactly the same back in! It's a good engine and sounds more than adequate for what you want plus you will probably end up with some good used spares from yours to keep on the shelf No messing about with different engine mounts or exhausts. No wiring to change. No pipes to change
  19. Mine also is wheels free but only one beam moves so I couldn't get them far enough out to pick up on the bulkhead feet. I had to use two farm Jack's at the front until I had enough space to get a bar above the gearbox
  20. Dropped off this morning to someone I usually use for shotblasting and spraying. He is going to T wash then two coats of two pack satin black 👍🏻
  21. Steve - thanks for the offer but I found a brand new one for sale and have bitten the bullet and bought it
  22. Works well but a couple of points to note Don't use the tablets with Alluminium as they are very alkali and with the temperature can damage it by pitting If you put bare steel in there which has previously been covered in oil/grease beware of flash rusting Go for it, nothing to lose! Some people put the intake hose in a bucket of diesel (output needs to be another bucket and not the drain!!!!) but I think this is a little risky from a fire perspective
