  1. Mine was the same last winter, did lose some water also. Proved to be a blown head gasket!!!!!
  2. I was wrong: it amounted to 4222£ !!!!
  3. I bought a suspension remote on e-bay. Of course without any code tag attached. It seems it can be reprogrammed for my disco using a six digit code that should be inside the fob. Does anyone know WHERE inside the fob i could find these 6 digits?????? thx
  4. got the verdict from my garage today: cracked head! looking forward to foot the bill for this one (around 3500£ I guess)
  5. Is it possible that the first series disco II had a problem with the cylinder head? My independant LR garage says that in the first series the head tends to shift after a certain period AND that it is impossible to diagnose this by any other means than by lifting the head. Can the gasket leak be there and be undetected, I see no traces of mayonaise in the oil.
  6. OK, you've done it... burst my bubble that is. What do you mean by not a great shake, in pounds that is (or in euros for that is what we are counting in on the continent for as long as it takes), in a garage?????
  7. 1. the cooling system was pressurised on a cold engine: no apparent leaks 2. An exhaust gas analyser was used on the expansion tank on a running and revving engine: no HC's Conclusion: there was no obvious reason for coolant loss, yet it does loose coolant. (occasionally) I started her today after a stand still of 4 days: no smoke whatsoever. I did 355 kms and lost no significant amount of coolant. Is this perhaps an example of a rare selfrepairing car????
  8. It indeed looses tiny quantities of coolant bot nothing really spectacular, the level in the reservoir goes down about a quart after 300 miles or so. Would that be the gasket, I read somewhere about a bolt hidden by the exhaust collector that has an o-ring that could cause problems.
  9. For some months now my td5 lays a white-blueish smoke screen when driving away , after the first start of the day. It takes about half a mile to loose the smoke, after that all is fine. Glowplugs were replaced a month ago (only 1 out of 4 proved to be working) but to no avail. Btw, why only 4 glowplugs in a 5 cylinder engine??? Car did 214000 kms and is a 2001 disco td5. Anyone any idea what can be the cause of this smokescreening??????
  10. I wonder.... what will happen when the weather gets any better, what when the sun shines: won't you be showered by molten vaseline?????
  11. The left hand side of my dash is in the dark (hard to read the fuel gauge now), and so is the illumination of the clock. I suppose it is safe to say that from both the light bulbs have gone. How do I gain access to them, from behind, ie from the engine side or can I remove something from the driver side to gain access????
  12. I have a grand total of five granddaughters that we (my wife and I) regularly pick up from school. The two youngest consider the 2 seats in the 3rd row as THEIR seats and are quite comfy and safe in there, strapped in with the additional headrests locked down. The granddaughters are the main reason I was looking for the seven seater that I own since december last and I heave not had a second of regret in buying it. (disco 2, build 2000 with 210000 kms on the clock and running smoothly)
  13. THx for the quick answer, but I found the part with Britcar on the internet as partn° AWR4716
  14. Hello, I'm looking for the RH fog lamp surround for my Disco II year 2000? It's a plastic moulding that surrounds the factory fitted rectangular fog lamp. Thx Guy
  15. hello there brother, mine is a 2000 td5 disco 2 with exactly the same problem: it smokes for about 3 minutes or say half a mile and from then all appears normal. It only happens when I cold start it and when temperatures are (as now) quite cold. Could the intercooler be involved, or the turbo? In my opinion there has to be some (quite small) oil leak somewhere inside the engine or one of its accessories. Greetings from a fellow sufferer
  16. can anyone help me with the part number for a left hand tail light (upper one, the stops) or a disco II year 2000?? A stupid messenger for jaguar parts collided with my car this morning and broke the part with the mirror from his stupid ridiculous van. many thanks Guy
  17. Thank you very much for the adequate and quick answer. You helped me a great lot. Thx Guy
  18. I'm looking for the upper right hand plastic gutter corner for my LR Disco II. I can't find the appropriate part number. Anyone who can help me? greetings Guy
  19. Hello to all, recently my disco II (build 2000) developped the nasty habit f sitting on its haunches in the morning. The rear suspension (air) seems to heve gone off. What can be done about this? Is it due to cold temperatures?
  20. I puchased an "abs amigo" from www.RSWsolutions.com in the usa. This is a diagnostic as well as a repair tool for the three on coming lights (abs, tc and hdc). You just plug it in the obd and you get a reading + a repair. Whe connecting it to uour pc you can get a read-out of the logged errors in the system. I'm very pleased with it, and it enabled me to trace the souce of my problems: the front right ABS sensor im my disco 2. this is an example of the read-out: -------------------------------------------------------------- |* ABS Amigo Box V1 RSW Solutions LLC Copyright 2008. *| |* www.RSWsolutions.com *| |* *| |* *| |* Version V1.1 *| |* *| -------------------------------------------------------------- 1.--Current Faults----> Active Faults: None Logged Faults: Front Right Sensor Bad Output <-END Faults ------------------------------------------------------------ * * ------------------------------------------------------------ ..--Previous Faults---> Active Faults: None Logged Faults: 044:Front Right sensor output low 064:Front Right sensor electric fail Front Right Sensor Bad Output <-END Faults ------------------------------------------------------------ * * ------------------------------------------------------------ ..--Previous Faults---> Active Faults: 022:ECU Gnd or Reference Gnd bad 064:Front Right sensor electric fail 065:Rear Left sensor electric fail 066:Front Left sensor electric fail 067:Rear Right sensor electric fail Logged Faults: None <-END Faults ------------------------------------------------------------ *
