  1. hi just in case any one needs it here a link to doing the timing belt
  2. best thing to try is put all timing marks so they are right on the top cam pullys take the bolts out and look at the ends just behind the bolts you will see a little dowl on the back cam make sure the dowl is set to the (in) on the pully not the main timing mark on the slot were the bolt goes in and on the front cam make sure the dowl goes to the (ex) and time it up again and it will be ok if you not done some valves in

  5. hi ally v8 thanks for your reply you talk about idle stepper thats the idle control valve yes i dont know if this is true or not but i was told that the idle control valve is what keeps the car ticking over and i was told that to check its working was to take the plug off it when it was ticking over and if there was a change in the cars idle then it was working but when i let the car tick over and i unplug the wires to the idle control valve nothing happens just stays the same ?????????????? as for the 02 oxygen sensor i have put the one out of my t reg that runs fine but still the same and also bought an ntk one new for £99 but still the same i put in a new water temp sensor and still the same you say its only 10 min job to change engine ecu with testbook what is testbook how do i check to see if idle stepper is working or any other sensors thanks for your help sorry im a bit dippy i do know a few things about cars but when it comes to ecu,s im clue less im sure its only some thing realy mad and easy to sort out but finding it is the thing many thanks for your help and any help any one else can give i realy like the car and dont want to get rid for some thing silly
  6. hi d-lander man thanks for your reply i have a running t reg that runs fine that is off the road and my w reg one that not run fine that is on the road i just want to try and sort it out as every time i drive it only get about 25 miles to £10 and it smells of fuel when driving and will not tick over propper things i have done to it are listed below if there is any thing you can think of please let me know thanks idle controll valve changed tps sensor changed air intake sensor changed 02 sensor changed crank sensor changed plugs changed leads changed roter cap & arm changed water temp sensor changed think there is only fuel pump and ecu left to change i dont mind trying them off the other if can can let me know a step by step way to do it thanks very much andy
  7. hi guys theres only 2 things left to try now 1 is ecu other is fuel pump as any one got any ideas how to change ecu without having it reprogramed i have a damaged t reg 1999 that runs sweet can i change the ecu off that to try on this w reg 1 if so any help to let me know what to change over please thanks
  8. hi agian after having problems with my freelander 1.8 not idling propper and changing all the sencors i can i only have two ideas left one is to try the ecu and the other is the intank fuel pump my freelander is a 2000 w reg and i have a 1999 t reg running good but damaged at the front want i wanted to no can i try the ecu off that car on my w reg one to find out if the ecu is the problem if so what do i need to change over so i dont have to have the ecu coded to my w reg one thanks any help will be greatfull
  9. hi thanks for your reply fridgefreezer i was told that on tick over if i pull the wires off the idle control valve the revs will change and that will tell me if its working or not the vacuum pipe from ecu to manifold was replaced coolant sencor was also replaced i have found a join in the fuel pipe looks like its been cut and joined with rubber pipe sorry yes i am frustrated with it as my wife will not drive it as it is and just need to sort it out cheapest way poss as not much money left in the pot now will a code reader tell me all the errors in the system ? and what the problem mite be also can you tell me witch light on the dash is the engine manegment light coz one dont light up on mine and had a look behind dash and looks like the owner before me removed some bulbs as when i put one in the srs light came on errrrrrrrrrrr looks like ive been ripped off with this car and just want to sort it out thanks for any help anyone can think ov
  10. hi guys nice site just wanted to know if any one knows what i can try next to sort out my problem i have a w reg freelander 1.8 when i drive it . its smells of fuel and will not tick over propper the head gasget has been done no probs there starts first time with no probs drives ok but when im coming to a stop the revs drop like its going to cut out then it just revs back up also when driving and im going to change gear the revs seem to take there time to drop head has been done 02 sencor changed idle control valve changed tps changed air sencor changed in manifold crank sencor changed throttle body changed one thing i can say is that when its running if i pull the wires out of the idle control valve nothing seems to happen no change to the engine and its the same when i unplug the 02 sencor please shall i just scrap it or dose anyone have any ideas i have seen the over fueling on the other post and have changed the o2 sencor in the exhaust and that didnot fix my problem many thanks for any help
