  1. Cheers for the replies fellas.Strange how the previous 4 I bought fitted smoothly onto their new shafts.
  2. '96 300 TDI 130 Tipper Just checking to see if anyone has had any issues with the above. One terrafirma HD flange on my rear salisbury axle chewed its half shaft so I bought a pair along with new shafts.Thing is the new flanges wont fit the shafts. The new half shafts are exactly the same as the previous shafts ( FTC1724 & FTC 1725 ). The old ( still intact ) flange fits the new shafts smoothly only for a small bit of movement from wear. The new flanges ( TF859) however have a slightly different spline profile where they haven't a pointed V shaped spline but a \_/ shaped spline if that makes sense ? .Anyone else ever experience this ?
  3. So with a rear prop removed it will only have x 2 front wheel drive only if the diff is locked , correct ?
  4. True Ralph, but why no drive on front axle ?
  5. I mean , goosed something , sorry
  6. Thanks fellas.I've a Salisbury on the rear fitted with HD drive flanges. I had a few mins whilst stopped this eve and took off the rear flanges. The rear OS flange and shaft are worn badly and can rotate them on each other with hardly any resistance. So I left them out.Diff lock not engaged in either hi or lo, still no drive , diff lock engaged have drive in hi and lo.Have I hooded something in the transfer box ?
  7. Defender 300 tdi 130 tipper Driving with a full load of woodchip last night , coming round a roundabout , felt and heard a bang resulting in loss of drive. No drive in high or low but drive possible with diff lock engaged. Had a look under today. In gear , the rear prop moves freely by hand but front engages. When I get some time I'll have a look at the transfer box inspection plate.Any ideas otherwise ?
  8. You're a gent Ralph , thanks for that
  9. Hi folks , anyone have the GKN part numbers for front & rear shaft of a '96 300 TDI 130 with a rear salisbury axle ? cheers , D
  10. My copy of microcat is acting up , can anyone tell me part numbers for rear axle salisbury halfshafts. 1996 Defender 130 chassis cab Muchos gracias !
  11. In case anyone wants to know what to look for.
  12. Spot on Mr Wabbit It was a couple of threads loose . I'm guessing that the shunt was enough to knock the yoke forward completely.I've cleaned both and threadlocked it in this time. Thanks for your help bud , much appreciated I had visions of having to fork out for a change of gearbox. Indeed thanks to all who helped , Frax etc
  13. Ok I get ye , I'll give it a blast tomorrow eve.I'd try it now but the shed is a kilometre walk up the lane .I'll post back , thanks for the suggestions fellas !
  14. If the transfer box is in neutral does the main gearstick remain in the gear selected position.AS far as I can remember it does , no ?
  15. Sorry meant to say when I run the gears through its a continuos sweep from left to right and vice versa without back down to neutral and up to each gear positionif I'm explaining it properly.
  16. I'll do that tomorrow after work Frax , I'll lift off the tunnel and have a good gander , thanks .
  17. Hi Reb , pretty sure it hasn't.The one gear that sometimes works is evident in both high and lo box.
  18. Clutch pressure feels fine , depress and returns as normal , no noises.
  19. Smasher , I might have heard a crack but the door pillar/quarter light gave me a smack on the head as the vehicle lurched. So I was seeing stars for a sec or two. Hi Frax , I did just that(see above) and I can engage a gear , which gear it is I dont know , feels like second .
  20. Hi Folks , I'm nearly finished converting a 130 chassis cab over to 130 tipper with full height toolbox between the bed and cab.I'm a tree surgeon.Anyway this evening I went to do a bit of work on the rear cross member mounting some lights. I went to turn the vehicle lights on which I did.I was going to be a while , so 'didnt want the battery running down too much so decided reach in and start it and then set the revs on the hand throttle.Thing is it was still in gear.I dont know whether it was in first or reverse as it happened so quick. I don't know what I've done to the gearbox (I presume) but gear selection now is a mess.Without the clutch depressed I can sweep the gearstick right across from 1 st thru 3rd and across to 5th with no resistance. The same but a little resistance at each gear position across from 2nd thru 4th and across to Reverse. The gearstick won't stay locked in any position ie it returns to neutral . I can occasionally get some forward movement , feels like second gear even though I'm holding the stick in 1st , 3rd 4 th etc I'm stumped , anyone got any ideas ? Cheers , D 1996 300 TDi
  21. Had the same problem a while back and it was a relay in the fusebox.Sorry I can't remember which one it was. '89 TD
  22. The Odyssey 1700 that I bought recently came with two bolts supplied.
  23. The consensus seems to be that the possible cause of the problem is a binding handbrake. In the post previous to yours it's suggested that he slackens the hadbrake off to see if it solves the problem. The handbrake is adjusted/released by turning the square headed screw on the back of the handbrake drum (facing the transferbox).Maybe you are already aware of how this is done. BTW New aswell and learning
