  1. Honestly, everyone knows that you should fit neons under your welder, not your truck!
  2. I can always tow you behind the 109, shouldn't affect my MPG (This offer is not open to everyone, before I end up with a convoy of landies tied to the back of the 109)
  3. Not only that but they quoted the guy as saying his work is "similar to Devon 4x4" - I know there's a healthy cynicism round here for the bling merchants but a ratty Hilux on 36's is not quite a competitor for Devon's work When they list "6-disc CD changer" as a mod you've got to wonder
  4. I thought it was because they're lighter for the winch bitches to carry.
  5. Just "read" the new issue of TOR, I'm still waiting for it to "pick up" as it seems to be utterly useless at the moment, now they seem to have gone back on their promise to feature muddy trucks and not new metal, this issue there's several glossy pages devoted to shiny new metal Reviews are still read off the back of the packet and the feature writers quite clearly wouldn't know one end of a 4x4 from a badger. They rave about stupid/badly done/poorly fabricated mods, take photos of things that are of no interest whatsoever and leave out interesting details - like the 6x6 Defender where there was only a passing mention (and no picture) of the drive-through axle, surely the main point of interest on such a vehicle? I am very close to canceling my subs and just donating the change to this forum
  6. Entry form is here Download, print, and post to Richard *NOT* Joe as the form says 'cos he's on holiday. Address to follow, stay tuned Photos from the last one are here
  7. It's because they have such huge willies, it stops them from being able to reach the pedals properly...
  8. My NBC runs off a 13A plug even with the volume up, and I have run Dan's 151 turned right up with no problem. It's a bit naughty but if it does blow fuses on the loud setting, a 6mm bolt in the fuse holder works nicely
  9. Stumpy (and anyone else who's booked in / joined up) - our events officer is on his hols at the moment so your entry form is most likely sat in his place anyone sending a for at the moment if they could send it to Rich Hawes (DLander) - I don't have his address to hand but I'll post it up ASAP. Bowie - yes a relatively stock vehicle will be fine, I spent all weekend trundling round in my stock RR and there were many others in pretty stock vehicles having a good time. Chris - I think we had a water supply with us last time, if nothing else there was tea & coffee which is enough to survive Adrian - thanks for the positive input
  10. I'd be surprised if the tyre monkeys charged you more than £5 to put a new valve in.
  11. Depends if you want the absolute cheapest or the best, or the best value... Cheapest is probably going to be Paddocks.
  12. Seems to be confusion here between gearbox and transfer box... 1: The R380 ratios will be basically the same give or take a couple of % whether Disco, Defender, etc. 2: What won't be the same is the tail casting, which will mean if you fit a Defender box the gear shifter will be about 12" further forward than where it is right now (straight up out of the back of the R380). You can't swap shifters without basically tearing down the whole R380 and swapping the tail casting. Ask me how I know 3: Diff lock - IIRC the TD5 LT230 has one, it just doesn't have the mechanism. Ashcrofts sell them but they're £££, or you could use one from a different vehicle. 4: Ratios - the LT230 has different high ratio depending on what it's from, they vary from 1.6:1 to 1.003:1. If you have small tyres or big power, you want high ratio (1.003, 1.222), if you have big tyres / low power you will want 1.4 or 1.6. That assumes rover axles and stock diff ratios. Many more knowledgable people have written far more on the subject of gearing than I can be arsed to reproduce here - the search button is your friend 5: Gearshift - if you want a big long stick to stir the cogs with, lengthen the gearstick. Making the gearknob heavy improves the feel of the shift. More info about gear ratios etc. including a calculator spreadsheet thingy is here.
  13. It's gratifying that people are moving towards the true faith, although few have yet reached the pinnacle of wheelbase perfection that is 109 inches
  14. I think what Si is being too modest to suggest is that you should buy some X-Lites instead
  15. Well Parvalux took their sweet time but then this was basically a one-off custom jobby. The motor arrived, exactly to spec. Had to: - Remove reduction gearbox from old unit - Remove drive gear from old motor - Drill shaft of new motor to take roll pin to hold the gear on - Enlarge and tap the pre-drilled holes in the top of the new unit - Cut the shaft down once the gear was on (the old unit had had this done too, presumably the factory method) I've just installed it... and it's ALIVE! I'm a happy bunny - excellent service from Butters, slow but good service from Parvalux. And I am back in the land of fabrication, which is a good thing. Now to get a new Speedglas that hasn't been run over...
  16. My dad just got a cheapy 3-piece steel steering guard and some half moon diff guards, perfectly adequate. Looking where you're going helps too Aluminium is bling but it's also expensive, weaker, and is more of a pain if you bend it. You can beat a steel one straight and weld a bit of bar to the back to stop it bending again.
  17. I'll have what he's having - anyone want to buy my RRC for £2k?
  18. Dave reckons he's tried most of the toughbook competitors and doesn't rate them, he isn't easy on his technology: There were a lot of toughbooks at Ladoga, and not a lot else except for Garmins which are submersible. My CF27 and 25 both put up with rain, mud, etc. with no problems - realistically exactly how wet are you expecting to get the thing - if it's underwater you have bigger worries than either your fuel map or your exact GPS location surely?
  19. Nige - Toughbook! CF-27 will do what you want with XP Lite on it, or go for a slightly higher specced one (CF-29) you can go all the way up to modern hi-spec ones but some of the new ones are a bit flimsy in comparison. Why digi pen? It'll get lost, and trying to use a touch-screen/pen in a moving vehicle is not so much fun... Walfy - laptop HDD's have 44-pin connectors, the extra 4 pins are for the power. IIRC Maplins sell adapters, if not I can ask Top Secret Dave as he has a way of plugging just about anything into just about anything else he has some groovy IDE-to-CF-card adapters, stick a 4Gb CF card in and you have a solid-state hard drive B)
  20. Anything can be made to fit - do it!
  21. Andy - I think I'm in a kinda-similar situation as you are with MogLite, having built it and taken it out there's lots of fiddly little things to finish off to make it actually ready to go playing. It's difficult to get the enthusiasm for more spannering after a big build, all I can offer is that you need a bit of willpower to get up and do those last few jobs and then go and play. Perhaps set yourself the target of having it properly rocking in time for 7S? That's what I'm aiming for. I tried to ration myself on tagging along to play days during the build, which has made me want to get out there even more. I also had to ban myself from fiddling with the RR to go playing in that, otherwise it'd end up as a play-day/marshaling hack and not the quiet comfortable secondary transport it's supposed to be. As Paul says, if you buy another one that will just be a money/time pit, and certainly given the number of vehicles you have in your garden I would sell a few before buying any more! Get out there with MogLite and make the kids take turns . What's wrong with the BigHorn as a more gentle play day tool? If you want challenge, navigating that about the place with minimal stickage/damage has got to be a bit more of a test than a bobbed RR on knobblies with lockers? That's back into challenge truck territory, and at that point it will be more attractive/comfortable to enter a challenge in that than MogLite, which then means MogLite is redundant
  22. That's why he posted it, because he's a smug c***t
  23. Green bible lists 45 Litres which is 10 of Her Majesty's Gallons or 12 Freedom Gallons.
